OTOH, we need to beat her Athletics with our Athletics to go from "in the same zone" to "in melee".

Ninja Battle: @Cariyaga I'm sure there is.
Huh?

You need to be in the same zone as someone in order to punch them / stab them, and no more than 2 zones from them in order to throw things at them. All of the long-distance ninjutsu that Hazō is familiar with have a range roughly equal to or less than that of Ranged Weapons, although his knowledge is not extensive.

Being at 'melee range' means that you are within (approximately) arms reach of another person. Taijutsu, Melee Weapons, and some ninjutsu happen at melee range. It is assumed that people will back out of melee range between rolls unless they explicitly engage in melee. For example, if Hazō attacks Alice with Taijutsu then they are at melee, but as soon as Alice's turn comes she is assumed to back away from melee unless she explicitly uses a melee attack.

If "same zone" and melee" aren't different ranges then why do they have range numbers of -1 and 0, respectively? If being in the same zone means you can attack at melee range then why wouldn't it just be a range: 0 attack?
Jutsu and Ranged attacks I think?

Also for counterattacks, depending.

Water Dragon Bullet can hit people that are in melee with each other, but not everyone in the same zone.

e: That said... I'm not sure why anyone would ever be in melee with an ally under the current rules, QM fiat aside.

Hm. Just realized that Keiko has an as-yet-unstated Futonjutsu...which may be relevant in terms of what she can do against a CQC opponent. Food for thought.

Depends how you mean 'remote', but for most definitions, no.
I got to wondering if we might be able to figure out a remote trigger method. Like, maybe it's possible to attach ninja wire to a seal and use that as a channel to conduct a chakra impulse over, or ninja wire with chakra ink added to it during the smelting process.

What do you guys think? Any other plausible methods?

Fuck around with LBF's , secure your bundle of dynamite, and just string along some ninja wire (attached to one of said LBF with glue or wax) until its at the appropriate length.

I mean, if it's actually that powerful you'd do well to just run away since the chakra expenditure must be enormous.
I find it likely that its some sort of wind repulsion jutsu that would blow people away from melee, as Jiraiya suggested she get.

The tripwire seals? What's the status of those, anyway?
I mean theyre next up on the Research Queue , ish.

Personally I think we should can the Extrasensory Seals for a bit, until we have a slightly higher sealing level so itll be quicker to dig ourselves out of the hole we are in on those. Although, that depends if we want to spend any XP on Sealing before we get Shadow Clones. I'd like to...

The tripwire seals gave me an idea, actually. From Kagome's scene with Honoka we know that damaged seals normally react unpredictably. I wonder if we could deliberately make an explosive tag design that consistently blew up when it was damaged.

They'd be dangerous to carry, but they might have their uses. We wouldn't need tripwire seals to use them, we could use wire or thrown kunai to activate them after planting them. Or work them into restraints that exploded when someone tried to get free, or all sorts of traps.

Personally, I want storage seals that never release their contents when destroyed or activated without room for the objects; the contents are just lost.

Normally this wouldn't be especially interesting, but it would allow civilians to use them without risking unknowing-sealing-failures from their destruction or ill use.

Kagome has storage seals with oil/water/fire in them, he calls them stupid boxes and they work the way you describe.

We would want this in explosives though so we can make ablative armor made out of directional explosives.
I'm fairly sure that Kagome would cry tears of joy at the thought.

Honestly, I'm very surprised he hasn't come up with Impulse seals yet. Although... huh.

We should suggest he work with Jiraiya on that. And, naturally, to be able to work with Jiraiya effectively he'll need to share his seals so Jiraiya has a basis from which to work on that...

There's an idea.

We need to survive the Exams first, though.
