@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped

Hazo's been shown to have pretty good estimates of Rune duration once he's infused a runes(for example, knowing the duration of TRs without waiting for them to expire).

Can we spend a fate point to declare that he/a SC tunneled under the Storm Rune and set an Explosive Rune to go off at the end of the storm's 24hour duration?
I really don't want to leave an intact rune to be discovered and studied.
Actually, fuck that.
[X] declare that we blew up the Storm Rune husk with an Remote Explosive Rune, firing from a SCSA-hidden skytower.

I guess we probably want to prep the pool runes now that we have MedNin 10, as well.
I'm of the opinion that we are running out of time, at least in the context of getting back to Leaf before they make their move.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped Not sure if we can ask without putting it into a plan, but may as well: What is the team's estimate of how long we have before Leaf assaults the rift site?
Actually, fuck that.

It's been over a week, I don't think we can afford to go back.

we researched extremely long term fuse explosives here:

It does not appear in the Players Known Seals & Runes document afaict tho
Those are seals. We'd have to place them on the Storm Rune for them to destroy it, which is infeasible.

Actually, fuck that.

Problem; it's already been two weeks since then. The husk will have been noticed, and saying that we stuck around for 24 hours is way too much for a Declare.

Per the chakra budget
On infusion days:
Hazou must go into debt to afford 350 (Rune A) + 350 (Rune B) + 175 (SC + 5 Clones) = 975 CP, 15 additional blocks to use.
On rest days:
Hazou spends: 250 (SC + 4 Clones) + 560 (SC for 7 blocks) = 810 CP => 0.7x FOOM Mult and 7 additional blocks to use.

On prep days:
Hazou spends 275 (SC + 5 Clones) + 480 (SC for 6 blocks) = 755 CP => 0.6x FOOM Mult and 13 additional blocks to use.
On travel days (note that he has only 3 hours per clone, so each clone can only get a single training block):
300 (SC + 6 Clones) + 480 (SC for 6 blocks) => 0.6 FOOM Mult and 0 additional blocks)
Hazou also spends 3 training blocks to learn mednin, and 4 to scribe seals, in addition during DoB rest days he's helping Dog and no FOOM takes place.
7 travel days, 19-4(Kei) = 15 prep days => 52.8 SC XP

Hazou also generates 8 blocks for reading on infusion days (4 days), and no blocks on DoB rest days (he's helping in Dog) except for the first (he's Summoning Cannai and doesn't have the chakra to help Dog) 7 blocks then.

Hazou generates 8 blocks on 4 prep days when Kei takes the FOOM budget

Otherwise he generates 2 blocks on prep days.

Additionally, all blocks must be spent on TH or Medknow, since Mednin isn't available until the end of the update.

We could make a declare that somebody not critical to our research (So not Hazo, Noburi or Kagome) stayed back with a remote explosive to cover our tracks and then catch up to us afterwards.

... they would also have had to destroy the remote explosive also, which to do safely means they would have had to exhaust the rune by firing it thrice.

Kei was, naturally, worried about leaving the rune behind. Perhaps she could also use the opportunity to spend some quality time with Tenten away from the group. I don't think it would be at all out of character for anybody involved, nor would it really affect the existing timeline.

Our FP is precious now that difficulty checks require them. I would rather not burn a hole in reality and have Kei and Kagome be sad at us.

That's enough running around for a while too. Let's hit the bricks with the research.

Kei solo is what I was thinking, as she can unsummon if needed.

Slight error I spotted:
Day 20
Hazō thinks he could drop prep days on Rift Opener, so he goes down to 4 prep days. He's intentionally slow about dropping prep for runes because runic failures are bad, and prep days aren't that bad when they still increase the roll and thus get him progress.

Prep day on Rift-Opener.
Prep day on Air-Leadening Rune.

(+1 FP for brevity-based-bonus; 3 FP)

Day 21
Prep day on Rift-Opener.
Prep day on Air-Leadening Rune.

Day 22
Prep day on Rift-Opener.
Prep day on Air-Leadening Rune.

Day 23
Prep day on Rift-Opener.
Prep day on Air-Leadening Rune.

Day 24
Prep day on Rift-Opener.
Prep day on Air-Leadening Rune.

Day 25
Infuse Rift-Opener:
Day 27
Hazō will drop to 3 prep days. Again, probably slower than he needs to but he really wants to be cautious around rune research. At least this is probably better than Kagome-sensei full-prepping everything…

Prep day on Rift-Opener.
Prep day on Air-Leadening Rune.

Day 28
Prep day on Rift-Opener.
Prep day on Air-Leadening Rune.

Day 29
Prep day on Rift-Opener.
Prep day on Air-Leadening Rune.

Day 30
Prep day on Rift-Opener.
Prep day on Air-Leadening Rune.

(+1 FP for brevity-based-bonus; 4 FP)

Day 31
Prep day on Rift-Opener.
Prep day on Air-Leadening Rune.

Day 32
Infuse Rift-Opener:
The rolls reflect the lower number of prep days allocated, but the days were still expended anyways. I can spot only two implications of this: this timeline needs to be adjusted back by three subjective days, and our final infusion would be on day 29 and thus before the bonus FP on day 30.

@Paperclipped If this is correct, why not just do the last day as DoB rest and keep the FP, usually rest days are included

"Power, responsibility, et cetera," Kei replied. "I held a far lower quantity of either than you currently do, and I made far worse decisions under their weight. I have faith in your ability to navigate this, Hazō. Please, live up to it."
Aww, thanks Kei. Not sure I share your faith though, we've made pretty bad decisions in the past.

Hazō watched as the rift into another dimension expanded until it perfectly fit the runic cage containing it, then stopped. A meter-wide sphere of pure destruction.

The wind whipping around him threatened to pull him away from the ground, and Hazō braced himself against a tree, which slowly creaked towards the rift. He could barely see it now, wrapped in a maelstrom of wind and snow and debris picked off the forest floor or torn off the trees.

It was a success. He'd opened a rift. All that remained was to report so that Prime and Mari could make their escape.

He dispelled himself.
It is so, so gratifying to watch Hazou become this great sorcerer, delving into eldritch powers not seen in a thousand years.

travel days, 19-4(Kei) = 15 prep days => 52.8 SC XP
@Paperclipped, for purposes of training plan–making, may we put something to the effect of "if SC XP is sufficient, raise CR to 33, otherwise raise to 32"?

It's entirely possible this plan for a slight difference in SC calculation to flip the purchase from within budget to beyond what we can buy, and I don't want to invalidate the entire training plan by accident.

[X] Training Plan (Kei): Pyramid Prep
Cloak of the Wind God 30 -> 40 [355 XP]
Physique 38 -> 39 [39 Pangolin XP]
3 Pangolin XP remaining, 45 XP remaining

[] Training Plan (Noburi): None
I want to leave XP free for Shadow Clone, but I think that leaves us with 100-200 XP to spend, and I could be persuaded to vote for a training plan that does that.
Also looks like he can buy Physique 39 with Pangolin XP.

But from skywalkers, it's obvious! You can just see the triangle where the trees are denser than the normal forest.
In which we're reminded that Kagome is very good at spotting discrepancies and patterns (a latrine inspection being weird notwithstanding)
"I only heard about the sealing failure, not about what they did to it afterwards. For all I know, they leveled it. Or maybe they're still holed up in there, with all their guards watching the sealmasters nonstop, forcing them to scribe and infuse and scribe and infuse, and for the unlucky ones, forcing them to make new seals, having their notes taken and inspected every few days, forced to make research infusions if they ever want to see-"
Old knowledge reactivating, old spirals coming back? At least he's not screaming or poking at anyone's back with a kunai.
Noburi's loaned chakra was gone, and his own chakra was nearly gone too. The chakra flow kept going though, and while Hazō could feel it stabilizing, he didn't feel it slow as his chakra continued to disappear into the boundary between Paths. With the technique not slowing, it would soon cut into his essential life-chakra, needed to sustain his physical body.

Gritting his teeth, Hazō pulled his hands apart and aborted the summoning before the technique could hollow him out. He felt a sudden rebound of pain in his hara as the chakra-thread connecting him to Cannai snapped, and stumbled to all fours as his unnatural energy vanished.
Oof. No doggy :( also, hurty
Refusing our brother's abuse of the laws of reality is as trivial as ascending with skywalkers beyond the reach of the time-acceleration rune.
Surely she appreciates the irony of how self-defeating that is
Moles and Rock ninja aren't exactly known for having rich, fulfilling lives.
Zing! I love his wit when it's not dog puns. I was so excited to see Cannai :(...
Hazō was a bit annoyed that they'd needed to abandon the Haran Bay rift site
They'll talk about this for years to come, and we shall still hear "never forget Haran Bay" and in the honour of what could have been, we will parade around the small local antelopes that were displaced by the rune's effect, with the familiar call of "dik-diks out for Haran Bay"
"Power, responsibility, et cetera," Kei replied.
How did the early drafts of my Spider-Man fic find their way into this chapter?
*suspiciously changes google docs password*
The balance of chakra in a patient was very delicate, and indelicate medics could cripple or kill their patients in minutes.
You mean a perfect crime? We can weaponise that, right?
"No, it is fine," Kei replied. "I just… Mari."

Mari had just stepped out of her heated tent, joining the rest of the team in welcoming Kei back from the Seventh Path.

"Mari," Kei repeated. "When first I killed people, I felt pain. The lives of those I kill grow no less valuable. Why do I feel less and less each time?"

Mari's eyes softened in sympathy and she shot a look at Noburi, one that even Hazō could decode. Let me take care of her.

"It's hard, Kei," Mari said. "There is so, so much about being a ninja that is hard. Come in my tent, sit down, and have some hot chocolate. I'll tell you about how it was for me."
Is it weird that I'm partly happy about this? She's still showing trust in Mari. She's following her. She asks for her help with her own psyche. They've both grown so much since their first stint with missing-nin-hood, and yet...
Wayshredder... isn't that Arachnid-gestalt-talk for a Summoner? Interesting choice. Unless I'm mistaken, in which case it's still an interesting name, but calling himself a Summoner of horrors beyond the veil is fun!
It was a success. He'd opened a rift. All that remained was to report so that Prime and Mari could make their escape.
YAY
HAZOU: I'm sorry, I can't help it. Everything I touch turns into WMDs.
"Sorry, the only way I know how to weaponise this is 'so hard' 😎"

[] Plan Fragment: Research
  • No-prep research Air Leadener and Banshee Lover until Air Leadener is complete
  • DoB track 1: Ninja Radar -> Explosiver -> Remote Explosiver
    • If Explosiver is Hard, try a TN120 version. If that is Hard, end the update
  • DoB track 2: Rift-unanchoring -> Rift-kicking
[X] Training Plan (Kei): Pyramid Prep
Cloak of the Wind God 30 -> 40 [355 XP]
Physique 38 -> 40 [42 Pangolin XP and 37 XP]
8 XP remaining
Why not spend her Pangolin XP to buy to 40?

[X] Training Plan (Kei): Pyramid Prep

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped

Does Hazou feel that finishing Ninja Radar will unstagnate him? He made progress on his unstagnation researching Force Dome, did he make progress researching Rift-opener? I assume none of the Easy runes he's been working on will suffice.

So what's the longer-term build plan for Kei?
Are we saving up to move RW straight to the 60s in one move? Saving up to bump Ath 60 RW 50 in one move? Broadening her pyramid to build things up conventionally?
