Unfortunately as designed PMSS won't work, as it was based on the incorrect idea that Force Walls are reactionless.

Amusingly we might be able to get away with something even more broken, though it will require actual seal research: Tunneler's friend work by drawing in air then throwing out a steady stream of filtered air. If we pump up the intake, and adjust the outflow to be concentrated similar to how implosion seals work we should be able to turn it into a jet turbine.

It'd still run into the store-unstore limit of storage seals, as that's what a tunneler's friend is at its roots.

Fresh info: Rock was behind the attack on Leaf, but they did not go through with destroying the village altogether because that was not the goal. The goal is to allow Rock team on Leaf grounds with some excuse and get them a chance to investigate who the hell is behind creation of skywalkers.

When they do find out they might either try to bribe Hazō to change village again, or abduct him, or kill him if other approaches would not work.

We need speedy flight, yesterday.
150 decibels is one kilowatt. The only question is how to convert it from vibration and into the desired linear or rotational motion, but there are oodles of mechanisms for that, and as musician Hazou's got the basic insights to get started. Perhaps the simplest would be to induce the vibration in a tuning fork, which will cause the tang to elongate and contract linearly. We already know that basic triggers are easy, so an air dome attached to the tang which activates at full elongation will lock it and result in the rest of the fork and everything attached to it being pulled forwards as it contracts. Repeat twenty thousand times a second until it occurs to Hazou that there's no reason it can't vibrate even faster and he discovers ultrasonics. Use as many alarm seals to drive it as you like- even a thousand will only be a thick book. Twist the whole assembly to get direction or even VTOL capability. The exact same drive can provide lift and forward propulsion without any need for lifting gas. Attach it to a cart and you've basically got a flying sled. Attach it to a boat and you've got a flying boat. Use 5SB instead of air domes and attach it to a floating city and you've got a flying city.

A prototype is straightforward enough that the team could have constructed one out of resources available while they were missing-nin, and while an optimized design reaching commercial aviation speeds would take more development, it'd basically be all mechanical aptitude checks instead of new sealing research.

SV does have a block function. I set it up a while ago and it let me actually enjoy the thread again.
There is one person that I've blocked, but I really prefer not doing that. Also, although @Kiba frustrates me at times, he also has valuable contributions and is a decent guy who, when a problem is pointed out, actually makes an effort to not do the problem things.

Bear with me on that one. I never checked with the others about whether TF is reactionless.

@faflec, something we might want to put in (along the lines of jutsu potluck) is a sort of offhand statement like "we should look for anything we can do to increase the military capability of Leaf *as a whole*" and just leave it at that, just to plant the idea so we don't look crazy in two chapters.

Either way, I like the plan, it looks good. My only other concern is that it seems like a lot of scenes.

[X] Action Plan: Something Old, Something New
I think we've already gotten to that point IC based on the last chapter when Hazou described the potluck?

As for scenes, it isn't that much IMO, most of this can be offscreened and Velorien can basically pick whatever he wants to write out of it. I think.

@Velorien Any chance you can critique the plans?

Info from where?

You are a Iwa-nin:

You had been sent on a mission of peace to ensure that Leaf won't blame an attack on you and to neutralize Leaf as an enemy in the upcoming ninja war. You are given instruction in no uncertain term to be polite and helpful as you can.

You have heard about the Goketsu. They are weird? Choosing to care for civilians who had been hurt in the disaster. What is it in it for them? You did hear about the clanhead's penchant for charity toward mudfoot.

You wondered about who perpetuated the attack. It's either Akatsuki or Cloud. If it was Akatsuki, you idly wondered why your village hadn't been attacked yet. Or you wonder if your fellow village ninja.

Even if it was true, it's not helpful to achieve whatever goal you have right now. Gain rapport and push for favorable negotiation.

Any way I can improve the analysis of the Iwa-nin?

I'm unclear what you mean by analysis. We have almost no real data, so anything like what you've posted will be essentially made up from whole cloth, other than including the detail about them being polite that we know. If the goal is to improve how we model people, I think you'd be better served by making specific claims and then presenting evidence to support vs refute those claims.

Among those:

- Assumptions about what mission they've been sent on
- Goketsu is notable to them
- Goketsu's opinion on humans is obvious/notable to them
- Assumptions about who orchestrated the attack

Telling a story about those things shows that this could theoretically be a self-consistent collection of facts, but otherwise doesn't seem like it serves much purpose to me. But, feel free to expand on what you're asking if it'll help clarify what you're going for, because I'm still not really clear on it.

[X] Action Plan: Something Old, Something New
Asked Mari to attempt priming the leadership into looking favorably upon the jutsu-pool idea in future, if it ever comes up. Obviously she's not doing it if it doesn't seem reasonable, and I'm being extra-clear on it.
Right, this is a combination of my previous plan (which wasn't implemented AFAIK), and some other things we could do based on new information. Also, @Cariyaga, I really hope this version satisfies your "give Chouza hugs" urge.

[X] Action Plan: Something Old, Something New
Word Count: 296

Get the clan's approval first.
  • Everyone: Iwa's actions are weird. They didn't attack immediately, and are uncharacteristically treating civilians well.
    • Is Akatsuki involved? Maybe they obliterated Iwa, and they're trying to ingratiate themselves to Leaf.
    • Are they trying to subvert the population? How effective would that be?
  • Work on improving living conditions. Cut down nearby trees and build cabins, get hay...
    • We've done this before. Rince & repeat from before.
  • Spend our time helping (and comforting) the current leadership (Asuma, Shikamaru, Chouza). Make ourselves indispensible to them.
    • Mari, what can we do to help lighten the burden of their tasks? Especially Asuma/Shikamaru, they must be at the end of their ropes.
    • Chouza's probably beside himself with survivor's guilt; he's one of the few surviving Clan Heads. Hazou still may be compromised, but someone else can surely check up on him.
    • Possible suggestions for the top brass to implement:
      • Investigate the relief party's story.
        • Send (airborne) scouts to the border, check what forces are amassing.
        • Verify their story. Where's the lumber merchant they were escorting?
      • Contact Suna. They might have been hit too.
      • Leverage Ami, either by demonstrating Mist's already helping or by present a strong Leaf-Mist alliance to deter an attack.
      • Instate Asuma as Hokage, demonstrating Leaf's still unified and capable of fighting back.
      • Reveal Orochimaru's survival, as an invasion would pit him against Iwa.
    • Ask Mari to subtly prime the leadership into favoring the jutsupool idea, if reasonable.
  • In our spare time:
    • Hazou, Kagome: Sealing.
      • Hazou: Organize, copy (in IN), and pick out seals that'll be useful in the short-medium term.
      • Kagome: Complete seal research.
    • Noburi: IFF Asuma/Keiko are still teaching, join Neji's Summoning training.
    • Mari: Work with the MC to speed up approval of ONE of our proposals, whichever she thinks is best.

Can you adjust the Chouza thing to just give OliWhail carte blanche when it comes to the scene? I trust that he's not gonna fuck us over, and I don't think that I can convince you of how to approach it.

I can, but I'm not sure that I should. Specifically, do you mean that I should just add "Give Oliwhail carte blanche to write this scene" or something similar to the plan? Because I can do that. I just won't make the plan "Give OliWhail carte blanche in a hugging scene between us and Chouza". The latter leaves too much up in the air, FMPOV.

Yeah, just add it to the plan.

(If nothing else it will give us goodwill with one of 20 or less jounin in Konoha.)

inb4 Velorien writes the scene and has a follow-up attack kill us. Because something something screaming in faflec.

I still don't understand why you insist on writing things to external storage instead of just remembering them.

On the one hand, Hazou does have a personal connection to him he himself bred during surprise gamenight. On the other, it's overwhelming improper. On the other other, I've never much given a damn about propriety and it seems endearing as hell...
