@Velorien @eaglejarl Hey, how would you guys feel about a once-a-month bonus chapter incentive on your patreons? That way you wouldn't feel the need to cleave to player plans as much (and in exchange we get information we wouldn't otherwise :p), and you could write worldbuilding details we wouldn't otherwise get to see.

Hey, I'm a wh...prost...mercenary. Perfectly happy to do that.

American English explained:

Mercenary
Definition: A contractor with specialized skills who kills people for money.
Legal?: Yes
Social perception: Cool, tough.
In video games: Usually the PC.

Prostitute
Definition: A contractor with specialized skills who provides pleasure for money.
Legal?: No.*
Social perception: Frowned upon, not to be discussed.
In video games: Valid target for violence. Never the PC, generally not a primary NPC.

Whore
Definition: See 'prostitute'
Legal?: No.*
Social perception: Filthy. Lowest-tier status.
In video games: See 'prostitute', although the term is less often used.

Companion
Definition: The best gorram class of prostitute in the Verse.
Legal?: Yes.
Social perception: High status, elegant, well educated.

*) Except in Nevada under regulated conditions.

This has been your moment of Zen.

EDIT: To be clear, I'm not criticizing the sex work industry, I'm pointing out how screwed up this is. Also, there are communities in which my characterizations will be disagreed with, and maybe video games for which my statements are incorrect, but I think they are a fair summary for a majority of Americans and video games.

Have I failed a spot check? It should be relevant to MfD somehow, right? Did someone de-buffed my INT score and thus I cannot comprehend the connection? WTF?

Also, a word from Eastern Europe - its fucked up everywhere. It is similar to legalised tobacco and alcohol industries, but banned cannabis and other low-addiction drugs FMPOV.

It's good to be that you have that attitude. It suggests that you'll completely understand when all the players decide to share a single Patreon account.

Wait, since when is it legal to kill people for money? o_O

The Bush administration?

It was relevant only in the sense that two posts back I jokingly called myself a wh...prost...mercenary.

It's not like it stops there.

Teenagers who kill or torture each in any form of media? Totally fine.

Them having consensual sex before they hit the magical of age eighteen? Outrageous!

I have a theory why that is but that it's still an odd thing to observe.

You don't need to guess; it's because of obscenity laws in Canada & Australia where the servers are hosted. Posting anything that could be labelled as 'sexualization of children' legally endangers the site, and therefore the Directors take a very dim view of it.

I'm not sure that @Tua was speaking about onsite stuff specifically, but more on a societal level thing along the lines of "Isn't it fucking weird how we're cool with teenagers murdering the hell out of each other in (insert media form), but (other thing) is [big can of worms]?" or so it seemed to me.

I think Naruto is a particularly egregious example of this with the "Child soldier ninja academy society where you're considered to be a genius if you become a mass murderer before the age at which you'd get a highschool diploma." stuff its got going on.

One Piece is pretty fucked up too, yeah.
