?? I don't THINK there's a crater on Nagi...
IIRC, the Kanashi ocean is canonically a crater.

Do we know IC what A or Kakuzu can do, such that A's a good matchup against him? From what I can tell all we know about Kakuzu is that he's got crazy Taijutsu and Kagome thinks he's the 'elemental summoner'.
I don't think Hazō even knows Kakuzu's name. He definitely doesn't know what abilities A has.

Also @eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail

Gonna try to scrap together a dice roller that pulls from character sheets with help from a number of people before y'all start rolling dice, so, just checking: I know EJ writes on a mac, what do the other two of you write on? Need to figure out the target OSes.
You win everything. {{{}}}

Hm. @eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail Can I ask if that's intended? That it's melee-with-the-Pangolin-only and only works so long as they remain there?

e: I ask because its area used to be fairly sizable.
I'll check. Good catch.

Kurosawa Clan could print out approximately infinity seals for the strikeforce, if Ren makes it.
Keep in mind that the Iron Nerve only gives two (wellw arguably three) advantages to a sealsmith:

1) Once you successfully make a Calligraphy roll for a particular seal, you never needed to roll for that seal again as long as you can operate in roughly the same conditions.

2) When you see a seal your brain retains an image of it that is good enough to let you reverse-engineer (i.e. research) the seal as though you had a physical copy.

Arguably, 3) It will allow you to attempt to draw a blank for a seal you aren't familiar with. This is something that a non-Iron Nerve user cannot even attempt, but it's really only a theoretical advantage, since no sane person would do it. You won't know the TN, so you have no idea if you succeeded or not, and if you try to infuse a seal that failed its Calligraphy roll then it's Cthulhu time.

It does not let you scribe seals faster, and in practice it doesn't let you scribe seals that you aren't familiar with.

Welcome, @Fresh C ! Lovely to have you, and thank you for the kind words.

What exactly did you crazy animals think up that made Henge destabilize the setting?
Everything. Like, literally (well, almost) everything. It started off with "Can we henge into a form with more arms? Can we move our mass around in order to let us hit harder? Can we henge into a rod 2 miles long, then change back to a location at the far end?" and got worse feeling there.

Hmm, what does everyone think about making a reference to Jiraiya's threat about Hazou undermining the search for Naruto, and making a commitment that we'll take care of Naruto and welcome him into the family if he's recovered, but Jiraiya doesn't make it back?

Strategically, it loses us nothing, and should make serious progress in integrating Jiraiya into the family if he survives. And it'll also make for a nice goodbye scene, I think.
Earlier Jiraiya said that Naruto would be his heir, assuming he returns. Should we reference that?

[x] Action Plan: Sealsmith of the Gods

I think Hazou is too much of a momma's boy to allow her anywhere near us at all.

FMPOV the potential benefits of having Hana around not nearly close to overweight the almost certainty that she will intrude into our plans because she thinks she knows better. And she wouldn't even tell us if it comes to it: she'll just do whatever she thinks is best.

Tea and cookies (preferably in Mist) is probably the most I can agree to do with her. And only to humor Hazou, not bacause I find interactions interesting

I don't think Hazō even knows Kakuzu's name.
The Bingo Book gives the year Kakuzu became a missing-nin, which suggests he is around a hundred years old, and still an active ninja. In addition, his reported abilities include imperviousness to all harm. Mari says that since he's not listed as a sealmaster or Bloodline Limit bearer, he is probably a user of unique ninjutsu. Kagome says Waterfall is probably lying, and Kakuzu is all of the above. It wouldn't be the first time stinking village stinkers lied to the bounty office in order to protect their horrifying secrets.
"His eternal rival is Kakuzu the Elemental Summoner. He's got four different summoning scrolls—Fire, Lightning, Water and Wind—and he can use all of them at once. He's said to be the oldest ninja alive—so he's probably another of the Sage's masks—and an expert bounty hunter. If it's a choice between facing him and facing a squad of hunter-nin, any missing-nin will run to welcome the squad with open arms. I can't imagine how rich he must be, if he's that old and constantly collecting bounties."

[x] Action Plan: Sealsmith of the Gods

I think that we don't want Hana there in the short term - it would be some pretty bad optics at a time when we definitely don't need those, and her "advice" would be a poisoned well.

This is something to look at again in a month's time, if big J doesn't make it.

While I asked before, I don't think that spending time with Hana is going to be fruitful in the next day.

I'm imagining Hazou reminding Jiraiya that he can in fact spend the next day or so printing seals en masse for the strike force and then doing his best impersonation of a Ricoh MP5000 office printer for the next 24 hours.

Edits to both plans:
1) Ask about Tsunade: How far can we trust her ? Presumably farther than Hazou can throw her?
2) Ask about Toad Scroll: I'm curious on that and its a good segue into "But don't you dare die!!! " , I'm not particularly attached to this but it would serve to help clarify bits of the situation.

Rough draft, may have missed some things, feel free to steal.

WC: 498
[x] Action Plan: Sealsmith of the Gods
  • Immediately run the following plan by Keiko/Noburi first. Thoughts?
    • OPSEC: Use an Air Dome, don't directly reference skywalkers.
  • Find Jiraiya to discuss the assault (high-OPSEC conditions, include siblings).
    • Jiraiya probably thought about most of it, but in case he missed any...
  • Strikeforce equipment:
    • Distribute seals from your loadout.
      • Give everyone tons of explosives, and Banshee Slayers + Earbusters/Banshee Fuckers.
        • Sonic damage seems rare, hard to counter. Spam it?
      • For Jiraiya: Implosion Seals, Directional Explosives, Goo Bombs.
      • Equip Leaf contingent with Skywalkers.
        • Zabuza surely informed Mist, and Akatsuki could've reverse-engineered them. Reveal them, equip Kages?
    • You'll draw more seals, but probably can't learn new ones (concussion).
  • Strategy:
    • Wakahisa Exploitation:
      • Can Keiko can transfer chakra water to the Seventh Path? If yes, Team Uplift should stay in Mist and get Wakahisa Clan's cooperation. They'll supply chakra barrels, which Keiko will transfer to Jiraiya (or another summoner; an excuse to get other villages' intel on scrolls?).
        • Possibility of harmful bloodline/summoning interactions?
        • Equip some combatants with chakra water bottles.
      • If impossible, the strikeforce should take several Wakahisa and chuunin along as chakra batteries (leave them in the rear).
        • The strikeforce will get effectively unlimited chakra. Before battle, summoners should summon entire armies, and others should create dozens of clones (equipped with seals).
          • Result: overwhelming numbers advantage.
    • Pangolins:
      • Keiko could get chakra from Noburi/Wakahisa and send her Pangolins along. They can focus on mooks, tank some hits, and support the strikeforce with Maneuvers or buffing ninjutsu (Defend the Log).
      • Warning: Pandaa previously stated that Akatsuki's "dragon" resembled an archaeopteryx, which are Pantokrator's servants. Pangolins are very religious — unlike other summons? — so this might cause a loyalty problem.
    • It's a trap?
      • Team Bloodrage was suspiciously incompetent given Akatsuki's overall competency.
      • Possibility: Nagi Island is a trap for the desperate EN. Goal: assassinate villages' leadership via a WMD, or draw S-rankers away then destroy villages.
      • Stay ready to escape to the Seventh Path via reverse-summoning, I guess?
    • Backup plan:
      • Itachi's relationship with the Crows is strained: he'd apparently slaughtered one of their political factions.
      • Pantsaa had implied he'd be able to drag Keiko to the Seventh Path if she betrayed him.
      • If true, Jiraiya could assemble a team of summoners, negotiate with/attack the Crows, have Karanium summon Itachi into an ambush.
        • Could also work with Kisame's Sharks.
      • Contact Orochimaru/Tsunade via Seventh Path?
    • Mention Kagome's information. May be relevant?
  • Ask Jiraiya if we can count on Tsunade for support back home.
    • Is she likely to go on the mission?
    • Would she help Goketsu in Jiraiya's absence (potential death) directly or as an advisor?
  • Are you taking the Toad scroll with you?
    • You could send it back with us, just in case... y'know...
  • To Jiraiya: If you don't come back but Naruto finds his way home, we'll take good care of him. You owe us one massive victory party, one wedding and one awesome adopted brother, so don't you fucking dare die on us, sir.
    • Hug him.
  • Follow Jiraiya's orders.

Beat ya to it.

    • If Jiraiya dies and Mari remains compromised, the clan will be in enormous trouble.
    • Hana is a diplomat with an interest in Hazou's well-being. Her issues with Mari are, ultimately, manageable.
    • Any way she could be returned to Leaf?
  • Kurosawa Clan could print out approximately infinity seals for the strikeforce, if Ren makes it.

[x] Action Plan: Sealsmith of the Gods

I think the bit about the Kurosawa seal printing press isn't worth mentioning, since anyone we trust to know how to draw seals is likely already doing so.

Also, if Hiashi survives and Jiraiya doesn't, we're screwed.

Alright, so I'm with Kagome on Kakazu probably being far more dangerous than the bingo book let's on.

And while I guess there's a case that can be made that he's probably stagnated in certain areas, but being a bounty hunter for decades as a missing ninja would force an insane growth rate. This is a guy that kept up with newer generations of ninja and captured there bounties without accumulating damage that could slowly grind him down.
Therrs no mention of any deterioration.

Plus he's probably got a treasure trove of blackmail, a powerful spy network, and mountains of village secrets locked in his head.

He's an older version of Orochimaru without all the SCIENCE!

So, the strike team's gonna have to be really creative in how they deal with this guy or perhaps beat him in a battle of deception and attrition.

I'm kinda...iffy on asking about the Toad scroll. Maybe it's just me, but it kinda reads like we want the scroll for Uplift or something.

*sigh*

*grumble, grumble*

Why do I even....

He's conditioning you. Pretty soon he'll be able to make things up out of whole cloth, claim you yourself said them, and you'll just take his word for it.

The hat isn't inherited. Hazou can't just issue her a visa himself. If J doesn't make it she isn't going to be allowed inside Fire borders until at least Naruto's coronation, and navigating that fustercluck of a succession crisis is exactly what we'd need her for.

Okeydokey. Gone.

(See how easy that was? )

Implying that Hiashi Hyuuga won't be the sole survivor of this mess because its just our luck.

>inb4 there aren't any survivors because of Jiraiya's ultimate suicide technique ensuring that at least the Akatsuki wouldn't win

Everyone dying would be pretty insane. We wouldn't get any word back about how the battle went, so we'd have to assume we lost, but Akastuki wouldn't be making any moves so we'd just be living in fear.

...though on the other hand, if all the Jinchuuriki die and their bijuu start rampaging around Nagi Island, we might notice something like that going on sooner or later.

With that attitude, maybe.

With kagome's attitude, boom, squish.

Why, it seems as if Diedara, or one of his allies, survived after all, and came after the survivors of the attack for revenge. How tragic.

The odds do seem to be in Akatsuki's favor... I mean, they've got Jinchuuriki around to make training dummies out of, so they've probably gotten a lot stronger recently.

And that's low hanging fruit in terms of how much munchkinry they can get up to.

if Hiashi survives and Jiraiya doesn't, we're screwed.

Imagine the opposite, though!

I'm kinda...iffy on asking about the Toad scroll. Maybe it's just me, but it kinda reads like we want the scroll for Uplift or something.

I think we may just frame it more accurately. If Akatsuki win and get the scroll for themselves... that's not something I want to empower them with.

Maybe like this:
  • Are you taking the Toad scroll with you?
    • If yes we suggest taking it for safekeeping and promise not to meddle with it.
    • Alternative: Akatsuki can get it.
    • We may just pass it to Tsunade if you prefer.
@MMKII?

@MMKII?

I'm not sure the gains are worth the wordcount to be honest.

I expect him to send it along with us anyway, in all honesty.

In-universe, you are completely correct, there is probably an entire council of strategists that will be coming together to figure this out, and they have decades of experience doing this. OOC: all of that work is being done by 3 eternally overworked individuals, so I have no qualms proposing things to make their jobs easier.

I'm not sure the gains are worth the wordcount to be honest.

I expect him to send it along with us anyway, in all honesty.

AAAAAHHHHHHHH! @MMKII is lupchanze'd too!!!

Does Jiraiya even have the Toad Scroll with him now? You don't need the scroll with you to use any of your summoning stuffs, so I imagine he'd just leave it in Leaf under extremely heavy guard. You only ever need it when someone else inherits the scroll and has to sign it, and there's no reason not to do that in allied territory (signing it on the battlefield doesn't help you, because you need to shell out a bunch of XP for the Stunt and then start making connections with the clan from scratch)

e: it could be with Jiraiya under a 'the safest place for it is with me' sort of philosophy, but given that keeping it there also means his death forfeits the Toad Clan to whoever killed him, I'd bet he just keeps it somewhere safe in Leaf.
