...I have no idea what you're saying here.

The list of "things that I know that Keiko knows that Hazou and others also doesn't know (but maybe kinda know?)" is too long. Swap Keiko with a bunch of other folks. (Ex: Hazou knows about Mari's uncle. Jiraiya knows but doesn't know that Hazou knows etc.)

In reverse order: Based on what Velorien said, we're gonna need more than that to get Hazou to go along with it.

I mean. International collaboration game night vs. "Oh yeah Ren's a bitch."

We can like, relax the latter for one night. This might be our only chance to have the greatest game night in the history of the continent.

[X] Action Plan: Shins and Spynetworks

I would love for the Akatsuki book search to be more subtle. And for us to try asking Jiraiya again.

Personally I'd rather key into the whole idea Hazou had the other day that there's probably more to the thing than just the Kurosawa being jerks as to why they kicked Hana out.

Edits:

I don't think we have the space to prime Hazou to be all introspective and change his mind. Given that we accomplish a lot in this plan, we can do that in the next one (which is Hana + Games Night IIRC?)

I think we can cut some of the fluff here if we need anything extra?

[X] Action Plan: Shins and Spynetworks
  • Sanity check this plan with Keiko, Noburi and Jiraiya.
    • Keiko speaking of favors:
      • Obviously Shikamaru has offended you.
      • Would you mind us charging him up the wazoo in hours/favors for consultations on future ideas involving you?
      • We can make it a joint Hazou/Noburi effort and cut you in. Win-win?
    • Noburi:
      • Are your sisters coming?
    • Jiraiya:
      • So Kagome mentioned Akatsuki had a book written about them a while back. Ring any bells?
  • Morning:
    • Shop!
    • Network:
      • Approach merchants, craftsmen, and book collectors. Look for performers/musicians around taverns.
        • Collectors: discreetly ask about rare books (look for the Akatsuki book: its possibly banned, or doesn't mention them by name ).
      • Draft them into your Intel Network, presenting it as a "joint business venture" with our clan.
      • Offer writs of patronage, price guarantees, partial financial backing, etc.
      • Direct interested parties to the Gouketsu compound in Leaf. Preferred timetable: within the next two months.
      • Guidelines:
        • Prioritize those you've approached previously. Glassblowers, salt/spice merchants, brewers, others.
        • Work out a bad/good cop routine with Noburi and Keiko. Use it on new/wary targets.
        • Goal: 24 merchants, 3-4 bards, 1-2 performing troupes.
  • Lunch with Shin.
    • Guidelines:
      • Observe OPSEC, stay alert, avoid hard commitments.
      • Be confident. Shin isn't a jounin.
      • He is a silver-tongued viper. Keep your cool. Respond to taunts/manipulations with dry amusement.
    • Start the interaction amicably.
      • Minor flexing: casually name-drop Ami for the regulars' menu. Mention your promotion, ask about his.
    • Elaborate on your offer/intentions:
      • Cooperation was our motto during the exams. We're here to build bridges.
      • We're offering an enormous boost to his career, and a distant opportunity to convince us that the Kurosawa Clan is halfway decent.
      • (As a callback, order a bottle of Kurohige's Revenge and two glasses (shallow pours, save the rest).)
    • Invite him to games night.

Personally I'd rather key into the whole idea Hazou had the other day that there's probably more to the thing than just the Kurosawa being jerks as to why they kicked Hana out.
Isn't it because Ren was lesbian and Hana basically fucked them up the ass by marrying a lowborn ninja and thus ending a bloodline that's been pure for generations?

Edit: By bloodline I mean lineage.

I don't mean to step on your authorial toes, O great feathered one, but would you be keen on ending the update immediately after the lunch with Shin so that we can have ample IC time to figure out anything to do with Mom/Games Night?

Wait do we know in game about Mari's uncle? I thought that was just ooc, and maybe she did tell him the first time she opened up and then proceeded to wipe Hazo's memory right after so as not to appear weak to the team.

I am open to subtle rewording of the book thing, though I note this is like the tenth time we've put something involving that in. @faflec we've certainly put something to the effect of "Run this by Jiraiya" in a plan with the Akatsuki book thing in there, right? It feels like every third plan I make has this in it.
Sorry, I had a bus and dinner, took hours. Also, yes:
Schedule meetings with:
  • Mori Ami. Topics: social philosophy and family.
    • Objective (for Jiraiya): Test the waters in a casual setting, with someone she wouldn't see as a major threat. Hazou will stay far away from political and OPSEC-sensitive topics.
      • If need further convincing: Keiko is heartbroken over losing Ami, finds herself unable to forgive Mari. You'd like to see whether they could be eventually reconciled.
  • The Oyabun. Topics: gambling and (if Jiraiya approves) interesting books.
    • Gift: Send a bottle of wine.
    • Check response to previous letter.
    • Objectives (for Jiraiya): Get fleecing permissions for Mist casinos, and inquire about sources of useful books: private libraries, black markets, collectors...
      • Can we ask about the Akatsuki book?
  • (Time: after Keiko's match, at other parties' convenience.)
Jiraiya, with weary resignation, has approved you arranging a meeting with the Oyabun. Hazō suspects that it must have seemed like a trivial request after approving him to see Ami.
Side note: Are we doing a meeting with the Oyabun, and if so what are we talking about?

Not even a bad trade. A favor from the J man has very high value.

Not sure it would work, though.

If there's anybody who has made sure to find out what Zabuza has been up to, it's Ami. She do it simply because he was the last person to see Yagura and Mist is about to have a major convulsion related to those events.

Isn't it because Ren was lesbian and Hana basically fucked them up the ass by marrying a lowborn ninja and thus ending a bloodline that's been pure for generations?

Edit: By bloodline I mean lineage.

The man who made the call had had his daughter wear him down to accepting her proposal to a civilian-born, only to be rejected so humiliatingly that the whole event had to be unhappened.

Side note: Are we doing a meeting with the Oyabun, and if so what are we talking about?
I would be willing to meet him again to reaffirm how we stand with him and potentially make him part of our longterm contacts/budding network if the meeting goes well. Merchants and entertainers are good, but the leader of a nation's major capital's criminal organization would be a great asset if used cautiously.

Wait do we know in game about Mari's uncle? I thought that was just ooc, and maybe she did tell him the first time she opened up and then proceeded to wipe Hazo's memory right after so as not to appear weak to the team.
She told us when we were trying to get her out of her depression in Ch 219ish, I think

Great-Grandpa: I am not doing this again.

Hana marries a random Mist chūnin.

Great-Grandpa: Wait, no!

Hazō became world famous.

Great-Grandpa: Was it worth it?

"Additionally, Ami requested that I inform you she now owes you a favour. This is a great power, and I fear for the future of this world should you misuse it. In other words, it can be filed next to most of your sealing ideas."
Clearly the best way to use this is to enlist Ami as a matchmaker to find both Hazo and Noburi the perfect romantic partners.

So just to be clear...this is us getting Shikamaru to give us favors whenever he has bright ideas involving Keiko in exchange for us checking the idea? Because...I'm personally a little bit leery about trying to be (what I feel is) the middleman between Keiko and Shikamaru's relationship. If we want Keiko to develop her own agency and whatnot it might be better for us to encourage communication between her and her now-fiancée by having them talk with each other about ideas involving themselves.

On the other hand, we get hours from Shikamaru. So I dunno.
Prioritize those you've approached previously. Glassblowers, salt/spice merchants, brewers, others.
I'm sorry, I'm not entirely sure what this means. Do you mean that you are prioritizing the glassblowers, salt/spice merchants, brewers, etc. that we've approached previously, xor that we are prioritizing them underneath those approached previously but above other merchants...?
Work out a bad/good cop routine with Noburi and Keiko. Use it on new/wary targets.
We should be very careful to make sure that Keiko isn't uncomfortable with us doing this. Recall that in the past (when we did our gambling thing) she had serious issues with the proximity of so many people to the point that she compromised the mission. Not sure how to fix this without making her social involvement negligible, given the number of people that would be present in the places we'd be going to...

Side note: I cut out some stuff to make room for word count. It's small, but enough for maybe another sentence as needed. Note that this does not include the thoughts I've suggested above.

Word Count: 287

I originally had her try to engage with folks from atop a roof. That might not be viable. Hmmm.

Hows this:
