Before asking Mari to TLITF someone, recall that what you are actually asking is effectively "hey, would you please give yourself a little bit of brain damage for me? Cool, thanks."
Oh yes, I was not suggesting that we do it. I don't think there are circumstances less serious than the Cannibal seal that I would suggest it.

But we do know of a way. Which was the question asked.

I could imagine a seal which emits a chakra construct that scrambles whatever spectrum the returning memories travel on. That would probably be the best way to do it.

EDIT: Not to mention, that if we ask Snow this, she's going to react like we just asked her what the best way to murder her is. She only exists as a thread of memories.

Disruption to that thread is not exactly the same as murder, but it's matter of degree and not kind. She's understandably pretty sensitive about it.

It would be a classic Hazou Moment(tm)

In my effort post I said we should speak to the condor trade reps first and get the Archaeopteryx Condor guys to show up for the main dragon speech, but I suppose now we can just do the latter part

Personally I want to launch a coup against the Polemarch while we're at the conclave but that discussion would be dead on arrival here

@Velorien @eaglejarl @Paperclipped I'm going to take it for granted that we spoke with Enma at some point prior to his arrival and broadly gamed out what we wanted to do when he arrived, and that the winning plan will be a reflection of that previously uncollapsed waveform. Not having talked in at least very broad terms about how we wanted to handle his arrival is too stupid an oversight for so many people who are smart and invested.

277 words at present. Probably not my finest work but getting the ball rolling seems good.

I don't have concrete goals for the first for-real meeting; I'm trying to sketch out an approach more than anything. I'm currently probably under-utilizing Kei and Noburi.

[X] Action Plan: Hey, Buddy!
Word count: <300
  • Enma
    • Goals:
    • We're delighted to see him!
      • Have Kei warn you if Pantsa's inbound so you aren't caught off guard.
      • Provide Enma with the best liquor available and reassure him things are happening.
      • Summarize (aloud, for everyone present to hear) the current state of the Conclave.
        • Be accurate, but take the first-mover advantage.
        • Focus on groups we can appreciably swing by vouching for/gently rebuking them in front of the Monkey King.
        • The overwhelming majority of Pangolins have been unfailingly gracious: praise Senior Lochagos Panehei and his disciplined troops.
        • Introduce a Condor to the Arachnid mites: their Empress is excited to meet the legendary Conjura, who will be instrumental in defeating the Dragons. Can they discuss her prowess in battle with the mites, to relay to Kumokogo?
    • The meeting:
      • Get all Leaf's Summoners here ASAP. Throughout, have them raise issues in controlled ways.
      • Have Enma relay his experience with the Dragons and Archaeopteryx. Goal: establish this is fucking serious.
      • Talk about the Dragon you killed. Orochimaru will bring a sample when he arrives.
      • Talk about the Great Seal - it's holding, thanks to HOWS, but it's degraded significantly. If anyone knows anything it, from fairy tales to verified lore, you need to know now. Any detail could be vital.
      • Have Enma lay out the plan - the Bosses march to Arachnid and defeat the Dragons with their Summoners.
      • Play good cop to Enma's bad cop. When he gets upset with someone, discuss their many positive qualities. You're absolutely certain they just about to do what Enma said they should be doing.

I like the feel of the showmanship, but I have two main thoughts.
1) Given the status of high ranking diplomats in this room, I don't think we'll roll over them that easily socially, and therefore should maybe scale back a bit. If we do roll over them (something I doubt the pangolins will find endearingly ironic), it'll be because of Emma.
2) We should probably have some comment on what to do if other bosses, or high ranking reps (like Ma and Pa) enter the conversation. Trying that same approach with them is unlikely to end well, I think.

Just like we would be.

We're on his home turf and we don't have the support of the locals.

Yeah drumming up support would have been important. But the conclave being in pangolin is what makes this plan work able. You have tons of powerful people from all around coming in to their territory. We can also plan around what security they have since Kei could get involved in subverting it. I wouldn't even have any of uplift be involved in the fighting so no risk of us dying.

It would be a hard OP but very much doable. It's just not something that could ever pass a vote her which just makes it a fun what if

In general I'm in favor of trade deals. I'm pretty sure if we try it right at this moment, Enma will murder us, if Kei didn't do it first. Though, I guess that would let them bond, and I'd love to see overly upbeat and overly cynical polycule peeps bonding over our stupidity.

Enma: Dramatic arrival, saying we need to save the world right now.
Hazou, knowing he was coming, the one aggressively asking for help up until now: Actually, I think this is the perfect time to set up some trade negotiations, so that we can ma-
Enma, stepping over Hazou's corpse: Any other distractions?
Kei: None. Love the efficiency.

What's doubly hilarious is that Enma actually wanted us to make trade deals before he showed up so he legitimately could be pissed because we haven't already made them

We were there for 10 days! Could we spend a date point to have done so during that long period?

Surely it came up before pangolin music styles?

A Boss Summon on their home territory is most likely stronger than a Dragon. Hazou and his clan members provide negligible combat power to this operation so we would need to convince allied Summoners and Bosses to do all the fighting for us. In addition, we would need all the visiting Bosses to agree to at least stand aside. If any of the other Bosses fought at his side, our team would be wiped out.

Why would the Bosses agree to do that? Some of them would die. They have nothing to gain. The Pangs have stalled out and the Condors are already conquered. It's wishful thinking that we could ever convince them to fight for those terms, and we would need to do it many times! Totally unrealistic

Why are we at this diplomatic meeting, again? This is a real question. Why didn't we just wait for monkey man to do the talking? We could have been working on something actually important for those ten days (plus travel time).

Why would we expect this? Mental consequences transfer, mental effects transfer in general - see cannibal seal. It is extremely doubtful that she can do this.
Because it's not certain that these are mental consequences. As best as we can tell, Mari just loses memories when she uses it. It's not a continuous effect like the cannibal seal was. In tabletop terms, it seems to be more of an instantaneous effect rather than one with a duration.

In practice, we did a bunch of stuff off-camera because of a spoon shortage on the QM side of things. The intention (and presumably what happened during those off-screen days) is that we'd raise the Dragonwar to the attention of everyone here, getting them to start thinking about it before Enma gets here and really starts driving the point home.

Remember that by this point the Conclave has been reduced to little more than a trade center for coordinating imports and exports on the summoner trade network. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the people here only heard about the dragons in passing, a footnote as they prepared for their actual job of negotiating trade deals with other negotiators. Hazou's here to get everyone's attention (easy with his reputation and a willingness to play up the drama) and remind them what they're all here for.

Convincing people isn't our job, or getting them to take action. Our job is to make sure they're thinking about the Dragons when Enma comes around, so that when he brings out his evidence they're in the right frame of mind to understand it. "Oh Sage this is actually serious isn't it" instead of "But wait, I thought this was just a trade hub?"

It kinda... all got glossed over because of the spoon shortage, but that's what we showed up early for. It also means we showed up under our own power instead of as Enma's lackey, which helps if we want to throw our own clout behind his to further boost his effectiveness. Ultimately Enma could make it work without us, but there's power in stories and we're doing our best to make use of that.

It's kind of unfortunate because we as the players have no idea how successful Hazou was at convincing people. Most of the WC was spent bullying some hothead Pangolin. Which is enjoyable to read, but not anything to base further plans on

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped a couple questions about Carving.

1. Do you need a dedicated teacher to get you to a level where you can self study? Most jutsu that level is 1 and for Sealing it was 10 etc.
2. Does it have any use outside of creating bioseals? Calligraphy can be used to forge documents and make pretty documents. Are there similar uses for Carving?

I'm quite confident that, if necessary, we could find and pay a tutor without mechanical impact to our finances.

Didn't Kagome get really good at carving?

I s2g if that was a plant ('kagome carves seals') that early I literally give up.

I was under the impression that this was Carving (of flesh)

EDIT: What Kagome does with wood I would expect would be under Craftsmanship: Woodcarving or something like that.

Just had a random thought. If bone is a chakra conductive material what about wood? What about Mokuton wood?

@eaglejarl @Velorien @Paperclipped is the bone that Orochimaru was theorizing about living bone? Or has it been removed from the "test subject"
