Yeah, sneaking past genin is one thing, sneaking around J is another. Nobby just doesn't bring any benefit worth the risk the way I see it. Hazou otoh has seal expertise. Unless we'd rather take Kagome?
Kei has stealth 10 and she thinks genin won't be a problem. That leaves J's company. If we go 'window shopping' after dark, but while there are lights on in the room, that should make us difficult to see, unless we plant our mug right in the glass. Assuming they don't have binds closed.
I don't mind grabbing a couple of stealth levels, but we don't have time to set aside for stealth practice. Unless this counts as field training?
It's a pity that we generally make okay-to-good plans so we can't use Keiko's A Frankly Terrible Idea. Maybe we should make bad plans when we're dependent on dice rolls

Here we have Mari, Akane, Hazou and Keiko check the empty suites together. I think Nobby had enough excitement in the last update.
Only Akane and Mari are going to check the outside of Joutaro's suite, Hazou and Keiko will be called in only if there's sealwork for Hazou to observe.
We could just have Mari check Joutaro's suite, but this is supposed to be a learning opportunity so I'm sending Akane with her. Ideally I would have the genin do all of this by themselves, but the fact that Joutaro is probably a jounin makes me really iffy about leaving Mari out.
I'll come back and turn this into an actual plan after a sufficient amount of feedback, but feel free to copy-paste and promote it to an action plan on your own.

Ankle-high ninja wire (or basic tripwire; going at ninja speed, tripping would be pretty disabling) along escape paths for less-than-lethal traps? Although I'm not sure we have sufficiently-invisible tripwire that wouldn't remove the foot at the contact point, hahah. But I guess that's fine, it's not like we killed him.
Nobby could do experiments with force walls and clones beforehand to determine if kawariming along a known path to the outside of a window would be possible.
Establish on-escape methods of establishing identity -- hand signals or whatever -- so that if we're on a quick escape and Kagome sees us, he knows which to make go kaboom (because let's be honest with ourselves, if it gets to that point, someone is going to go kaboom).

Make it clear that Hazou and Nobby are to be somewhere specific, and Mari can call them in with Whisper on the Breeze
Maybe bring up to Mari that this is more of a training mission than anything, as it doesn't actively progress our goals, so don't be scared to call the rest of us off if things get too hot.

Bring some sake with -- if you need to knock out one of the other two and they notice you, having Nobby on hand to heal any wounds they take, and a bottle of spilled sake nearby could do a lot to confuse the situation.

The breakin should happen while he's at the springs to heighten the possibility that we find the scroll and give us the chance to skedaddle if he comes back rather than breaking in while he's there.

4. Mari clone (possibly watching Joutarou from sufficient distance to not be identified, uses Whispering on the Breeze if he moves toward his suite. Or this could be Nobby's job, just find somewhere that he could reasonably be stationed and keep an eye on pathways leading to the door.

Re: sneaking: stick to cover, keep a low profile when moving over rooftops and such, avoid casting a shadow, wear muted colors.
If we're doing this while J is away (say he goes for a late bath) check his window, too. If J is present, wait till like 2-3AM for maximum dark and sleeping.
Check for a good spot to observe the suite windows from outside. I'm now legit worried there's a third person keeping an eye for intruders from outside.
Hiding in the second-darkest shadow to see who hides in the darkest, that kind of thing.
Re training: if the recon run counts as training I'd like to buy a level or two (more would probably require more intensive training) of relevant skills (with the level up after the update, of course)

Hey, no problem dude! Wasn't meaning anything against any of you guys. Hope things've been going well on everyone's end, I was just commenting that a lot of folks seemed to be having connection issues for one reason or another (Dictator4Hire, Muer'ci) or were otherwise occupied. Hope things go well for you!
Alright, I made a few edits based on the feedback.
I specified that Nobby should stay with Kagome (no solo operatives) and added a few specifics for combat scenarios. Namely using Jiraya's codeword for combat (boudoir) just in case. (Hey! It might work!)
In this episode: Training plans. Since we are doing preparatory work I'm just going to assume that we can get 1 or 2 dice of the relevant skills. I would go with these:
[X] Training Hazou: Stealth 9
This gives Hazou effective Stealth 10, the same as Keiko, meaning he won't be dragging the group down.
[X] Training Akane: Mechanical Aptitude 14
This is what she is here for. The other alternative would be Stealth 12, she doesn't have the XP for both.
[X] Training Keiko: Nope [X] Training Noburi: Nope
I guess we could push Deception training on Nobby for the coming caper, but he is kinda strapped for XP as is.
