Suggestion: Skywalk away. Akane and Hazou are carried on a stretcher held by Kei and Snowflake. Yuno carries the captives.

Just saying, we wouldn't have had to risk death if, by virtue of a certain plan meant to bring everyone's hearts together, we had already been dating all these ninja. No, not the moon's eye thing, we haven't solved the chakra diffusion problem yet. Plan: Omnicule would have saved the day, is all.

Edit: alas, Eaglejarl's pre-existing and committed relationship with Pun Ching prevents a peaceable solution to our violence problems. Only more violence can ever break the cycle, it seems. Lots and lots of it. With fists and magic.

Edit 2: And if there's no flirtatious undertones to the violence of fists and magic, believe you me, I'll write my own flirtatious undertones to the violence of fists and magic.

@Velorien and @eaglejarl, do the characters think that exfiltrating with either of the captives (alive) is an option?

Potential answers:
  • Yes, Hazo believes that you could carry one of the captives and make a relatively clean getaway.
  • Yes, Hazo believes that you could carry both of the captives and make a relatively clean getaway.
  • No, Hazo is certain that trying to carry either one or both captives would slow you down enough that you'd run a significant risk of being caught by a patrol.
  • Carrying one captive incurs risk - you'll be slower - but it's a risk, not a sure thing.
  • Carrying both captives incurs risk - you'll be slower - but it's a risk, not a sure thing.
I figure we'd be able to eyeball this, but it isn't obvious to me what our options are.
It might be simplest to just list your capabilities.

Yuno can carry one person at speed.

Akane can't carry anyone, and will need to be carried to move at speed.

Hazō can't carry anyone in a way that requires direct contact, and can't carry anyone at speed.

Kei can't carry anyone in a way that requires direct contact.

Snowflake can't carry anyone in a way that requires direct contact.

How you assess risks and options from there is up to you.

What Dogs or Pangolins can we Summon that could carry anyone at speed?

That was my first thought as well. Hazō has 179 chakra left, anyone who knows the numbers knows if that's enough for a large dog?
They're ninja monsters so I'm sure most of them are strong enough to carry someone, but they can't skywalk, I don't think that's worth it.

Kei can't carry anyone in a way that requires direct contact.

Snowflake can't carry anyone in a way that requires direct contact.
How many people could they carry using a stretcher?

I mean, the obvious solution would be to kill the genin and seal his body. Hazõ can probably run himself and yuno can cary akane, we lose the chace to get intel but, we get away.

Wait, I'm an idiot and can't reading comprehension. Hazou doesn't need to be carried; he can run. Kei and Snowflake can't carry people via direct contact, but they can still drag the Genin around via ninja wire. Yuno can carry Akane.

Skywalk away with these parameters.

What are we realistically gaining by successfully escaping with the genin in tow? Not having to kill them is a plus in an ideals sense, but we are significantly weakened, I don't think that on its own is sufficient reason to attempt.

I mean, if we stick them onto a Skytower a billion feet in the air, they become our prisoners.

As we have the option of not killing helpless people, I'm pulling my plan down.

[X] Action Plan: Beating a Hasty Retreat
Word count: <300

  • Prisoners:
    • What did he mean, 'finish the job'?
    • We're sorry. What burial rituals do you want?
    • Clean deaths. Seal their corpses.
  • We need to leave.
    • Run 90 degrees to the incoming patrols. Stay in the trees for a few minutes, but Skywalk and set up a Skytower as soon as the odds we're seen are low enough to maintain opsec.
    • Yuno carries Akane.
    • Put a Stupid Box on a timer for a bit before the patrol will arrive.
  • Set up a Skytower. Get up high.
    • Contact Noburi.
      • Report. Advice?
        • Describe Akane's injuries: any help he can give remotely would be great.
      • Pass along the bodies. Please search them and pass any maps or useful information etc. back.
    • Rest, recover. Draw maps, move location periodically.
    • Talk with everyone: thank Yuno, grieve with Akane, keep Kei/Snowflake from spiraling.

I think we should probably just immediately skywalk but otherwise, seems good

Mmm. The information we can get out of the genin is of crucial short-term value. If the Scrolls we're after are in use, we should probably pack up and leave — they would be of no use to us. The polities here are clearly hostile to Leaf, and know that Leaf probably wants their Scrolls. It would stand to reason that the corresponding Summon Clans are aware as well, and are likewise predisposed against Leaf. If we kill their long-time allies and steal their Scrolls on top of that, they may just kill out of hand any new Summoner candidates Leaf sends them.

Even if not, even if they'd be so desperate to have any Summoner that they accept this, like the Condors are, the relationship will likely be strained, and we'll get minimal utility out of the Scroll. There area probably better targets.

Not to mention the whole area may be on alert for us now...

Listen if people make suggestions to optimize. If they disagree on stuff, though, follow your opinion.
  • We need to leave. Minimal prep, then bug out. Speed is of the essence here.
    • Knock out the prisoners. Don't do permanent damage - sleeper holds? Keep them separate regardless.
    • Start a smokey fire to cover our escape. Stupid boxes, firelog macerators, Elemental Mastery...
    • Obfuscate our involvement. Do this quickly, this is not the priority.
    • Skywalk away.
      • Run away from the patrol, Skywalking once the odds we're seen are low enough to maintain OPSEC. Use the smoke to cover our movements from the responding patrol.
      • Yuno carries Akane. Kei/Snowflake carry the prisoners via ninja wire.
  • Set up a Skytower. Get up high.
    • Contact Noburi. Report, and ask advice.
      • Describe Akane's injuries: any help he can give remotely would be great.
    • Rest and recover. Let Hazoupilot offer comfort & thanks to everyone.
  • Discuss what to do with the prisoners, then wake them and explain their options.
    • "The sad thing is, I really wasn't lying about wanting to trade. I feel no guilt for killing your team when they attacked first, but I also won't blame you for the decisions of your commanding officers. I'm on a peaceful mission, and would prefer you to live, but I also cannot tolerate the information leaks this battle has caused. So now, here are your options."
      • Give them the option to die. Hazou does not like this, but he'll make it as quick and painless as he can.
      • Give them the option to return home with us. We cannot promise what will happen to you; you may well be tortured and interrogated, then killed. However, Hazou swears to petition his leader to allow them to be kept at his home without chakra, where they will have a life of relative safety and dignity as a civilian under his care. As a clan head, it is plausible that our leader might grant this request, making this outcome the best possibility for them.
      • Give them the option of exile. They'll be placed onto some inescapable islands containing food and water. The deep-ocean waters are too dangerous for travelers and water-walking is impossible for such a long distance.
    • Abide by their wishes.

I don't suppose you would be amenable to just skywalking immediately? If we stay in the trees at first I think it only increases the odds they see us skywalk

Just set a giant fire between us and where the signal flare is, we should be obscured by the smoke and we've got air purifier seals if it suddenly blows our way

"No, I do not have the chakra to summon the larger ones we would need to tear up the ground sufficiently. Beyond that, assuming that those ninja were of a single clan, they would almost certainly recognize the burned-out hemisphere as a signature of their jōnin's Fire ninjutsu, and given the relative humidity and constant rain, we are unlikely to be able to initiate a fire that will adequately conceal that distinctive shape."
Can we set a fire to block our ascent? @eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail @Paperclipped

edit: might revote for this

Def should interrogate them. They are to useful as a source of info to just kill

What info are we hoping to get out of a pair of hostile genin though? Village location we can get by taking something of theirs via dogs. I don't feel like at a genin level, they are a reliable source of knowledge about the summon scroll, and that's before bringing in the difficulties that them being hostile entails.

If we are talking TI to get much out of them too, that sorta invalidates the moral pro of not killing them too I think...
