Compile a list of concrete evidence suggesting that the world as we know it is not what it is.
  • Sealing.
  • The Tailed Beasts.
  • Bear and Rain's rain, maybe.
  • Pain's Rinnegan. Akatsuki's plan as a whole.
  • Our sighting of a sky squid.
  • The Seventh Path and the Summoning Scrolls.
  • The Five (not that Hazou knows about that).
  • Chakra and Chakra beasts (not that Hazou knows about their abnormality).

Have a serious discussion with Kagome, in which we carefully question the veracity of his claims and estimate their plausibility. Cross-reference them with the aforementioned facts, Pain's claims ("the Five", "millennia of sacrifice"), and the state of the world at large. Identify claims and theories that are dubious but easily verifiable; put plans into place to do so. Identify possible sources of additional information on the topic. Identify potentially exploitable and potentially dangerous parts of the mystery; start paying close attention to them. Oh, and get Mari to crack Keiko open notice that Keiko is hiding information relevant to this from us — she'll need to be present for that, of course.

I'd be okay leaving the Forbidden Lore proper for a chapter of its own, and it would probably help achieve the <just Mari/Kagome for the Akatsuki, but full Team Uplift for the forbidden lore> hope I've had.

Real estate is a time consuming affair. We want to shop around and inspect locations and make sure that we're not getting ripped off. Unless we are willing to pay through the nose for a quick sale of land.

Take a look at listings of properties. Decide next week. With luck, we may only have to spend thirty to one hour a day touring properties. There's likely not much on sale in a city of only 30,000.

Edit: What are we using the space for? Having a clear idea of what we want will help the agent look for properties that fit our need.

To give a bit more detail, the Konoha Sealsmith Society (and Konoha Hacker/Medic Societies) are a key step in Project Necromancy: the centralisation of the researcher-class ninja under our direction. The societies act as unions/social-clubs/idea-exchanges, with members paying a monthly due for society upkeep and attending weekly meetings to discuss things of interest with their peers.

This does three major things for us (as well as some more minor things): It gives us access to all the researchers in one place, lets us influence their direction as chairman of the society, and lets the society apply pressure politically by forming agreements on what they do/do not intend to do.

Let me solve the "Real estate problem" for you.

  • Go to a multi-floor tavern/inn thats still being rebuilt from the sealing failure.
    • Buy their building and pay for the necessary renovations.
      • Have Kenta and his lads do these: good portfolio building for his construction business.
    • They work for us now.
      • Grant them a generous but reasonable monthly salary to manage the property/business.
    • Top two floors of the building are off limits to all customers.
There you go.
