[x] (Interlude, July 14) Hazou's Exams Performance: Ren's Postmortem Analysis

At the very least they saw us fight our way past Zabby's KI to keep taunting him.

HAZOU: You bastard!

ZABUZA: GRRRRR.

OBSERVER: Why you do dis?

HAZOU: ... you think... I'm not gonna get the last word in? ... I'm... too petty...

OBSERVER: Is this kid secretly a Jonin or something? Why is he doing that?!

Unfortunately, the Uchiha are too vulnerable and we're too valuable to take babies off the table. Meanwhile, my headcanon of Hazo has him looking at this deal.

Where I come from, a weak negotiating position means you end up making more concessions. Uchiha is weak, Goketsu is (relatively) strong. We should use that to bargain aggressively to get the concessions that are important to us.

IN and Sharigan appear to be mutual exclusive. As Hazo has IN he will never develop Sharigan.

I was not aware of this. Do you have a link to a source?

As for Hazo himself, again I sincerely doubt he has the sharingan unless he's just a late bloomer which is unlikely

Assuming the two are not mutually exclusive, I don't see why we'd assume that Hazo is a late bloomer. IIRC, Sharingan only develops when the ninja faces a situation of great emotional stress, such as personally murdering his best friend. It is plausible that Hazo just hasn't had his triggering event yet.

which makes both his position as an elite member of the Uchiha clan and a future elder/leader sort of inevitable. If Naruto will be the Goketsu's "official" clan head anyway, would it really be such a bad thing if we have Hazo, a person the players know for fact wants nothing more than to push for Goketsu and Uplift advancement, take on a leadership position in Konoha's oldest living clan?
First, going to Uchiha means being separated from all of Team Uplift. Mari, Kagome, Noburi, and Akane will all stay in Goketsu. Second, Naruto isn't really interested in acting as Clan Head, and is willing to leave that to Hazo. I have no reason to believe that the same is true of Sasuke.
Hazo's like an Uchiha unicorn. They can't just walk away just cause we growled a little.
Unicorns growl? I never knew that.
Any children born to these women who develop the Sharingan will be immediately adopted by the Uchiha.
I'd like clarification of a few points.

  1. Children with IN do not go to Uchiha.
  2. While it's not our opening offer, we are prepared to concede that children with neither IN nor Sharingan go to Uchiha.
  3. Any children that do go to Uchiha will not be separated from their mothers at too young an age--certainly not before entering the Academy, preferably not before graduating. I don't care if that means that they both stay in Mansion Goketsu until then or not, the kids need their mommies and the mommies need their kids.
  4. I like that you limit it to children "born to these women." Hazo (should he develop Sharingan) is not going to Uchiha, neither are kids that he may father with Akane or whomever else he ends up marrying, nor any other kids born into Goketsu.

We really need to lean in to the fight me IRL persona we started with Stabbie Zabbie
Given that Hazou's persona in that speech was 'self-important brat' to maximally irritate Zabuza I'm hoping we aim a little higher than that. :p

As clans the Goketsu may be stronger than the Uchiha, but in terms of negotiations the Uchiha have something we dearly need: their vote. They desperately want to grow their clan, of course, but we are not the only path to achieve that. The main thing we bring to the table is the fact that Hazou's a Kurosawa, for genetics reasons detailed earlier. And also I suppose the fact that we're willing and able to make deals like this in exchange for their priceless Hokage vote, but at the end of the day we need this deal more than the Uchiha do (if all else fails they can continue sucking up to the Hyuuga until they're back to being a credible power)

Jeez, this thing moves at a mile a minute. So, reading the backlog, y'all are plotting to call the Estates General to rectify the tax situation, have built concentration-camp housing in the backyard (Uncle Snek approves), are starting a Sharingan breeding program (ditto), and…
I'll have to change that at some point. Anything that makes Keiko unhappy must be eliminated."
Well…
A cold breeze washed over the room, despite the fact that there were no windows and the door was closed.
*gulp*
She gave him a thoughtful look. "What does it mean, in the end, to care about another human being?"
…Leaf is doomed.

Yet another day in Marked For Death, where explosions make YOU!

I'm about 75% confident that they'll take the deal with at least some of the new concessions and most of our stipulated changes.

The worst element of this for them is the potential visiting rights/dual parents crap. This could potentially split the loyalty of their new clanfolk. This is offset by:

  • Those concessions, which are considerable.
  • The fact that it explicitly comes with the " We will train them super good too and also give them a fuckload of seals so they dont die" caveat
  • The fact that this creates a potential loyalty split for the new Uchiha horde is not necessarily a bad thing: just as 30-55 of their kids are now pretty loyal to us, 30-55 ish of our kids are now super loyal to them. This is a massive incentive for both of us to keep each other's best interests in mind and act accordingly. Short of literally joining the two clans together I don't think theres a stronger way to make an alliance here.
  • We have a Jonin social spec and Hazou, do you think we wouldn't have figured out a way to do this anyway if we really wanted? Ninja.

[X] Rejection and Counteroffer
@Vecht, please note that I'm casting this vote now because I'm fairly confident you'll make the changes I requested, and because the deadline for voting must be coming up soon.

Also, I'd like to register that I do not appreciate the breach of social norms that is pinging a bunch of people to vote for your plan. It is annoying to people (I in fact believe that you have spoken against it before, Vecht, unless I'm mistaken), and it leaves other plan makers little choice but to do the same for theirs if they wish to win.
I get the game theory part, but I personally do not find Vecht's pinging me annoying. On the contrary, I'm grateful, as I otherwise might have missed my chance to vote for a plan that I'm okay with.
We have limited action slots and even less intelligence and money.
You bet. We're the Hivemind.

@MMKII, I'm curious. Why did you vote for both Faflec's plan and Vecht's, when they're on opposite sides of the Deal Debate?

Partly because @faflec's changes are more or less acceptable to me. That's among the best we're gonna wrangle IMO.

A nontrivial portion of my voting habits are due to... well sometimes when I end up making plans occasionally people badger me to change every other thing to their liking and don't even throw me a vote for it in exchange, and that blows. So if I end up badgering anyone to change a minor detail ("Noo, we must give Ino the yellow flowers! Anything else is unacceptable." levels of minor detail ) here and there and they actually do it instead of wasting time debating me on it, I usually end up throwing them a vote. If it ended up mattering or things got contentious or I thought everything was going to blow up over something in the plan I would unvote it before the deadline. Beauty of approval voting.

Because they need to offload civies that are a drain on their empty coffers
And then they'll need to hire a wet nurse to come live in the Uchiha compound and feed the newest member of the clan. Or alternatively, after taking the babies away from their mothers, they'll place them outside the compound, in the home of a "baby farmer."
(Am I the only thread participant who is a female and a parent?)

There is a reason we're paying them a million a month.

No point in pinging me on Friday afternoon or Saturday, I'll be offline until the end of the Sabbath and meanwhile voting will have closed.

have built emergency winter survival housing in the backyard
FTFY

Ah, well. So much for that, then.
Voting closes 9am Eastern Time on Saturday. Sometimes it's later -- e.g. it closed at noon today because I was at a movie -- but 9am is what you can count on.

Related: I really enjoyed Spiderman: Far from Home. If you like superhero movies, give it a watch. There's two plot holes that you need to not think too much about, but the movie itself is a blast. Funny, great action, a wonderfully adorkable hero, and MJ is brilliant.

Also, respect the hyphen! :p
Not that anyone ever does, heh.
