Related: I really enjoyed Spiderman: Far from Home. If you like superhero movies, give it a watch. There's two plot holes that you need to not think too much about, but the movie itself is a blast. Funny, great action, a wonderfully adorkable hero, and MJ is brilliant.

You're looking at it all wrong. A bunch of civies will be a drain on the Uchiha for their entire lifespan, whereas the children are potential ninja who will likely be the main breadwinners by their teens. Said teens will also pad out the ninja population in the clan and will help push the Uchiha back into a stronger position in clan politics, military power, etc. This deal is very much a longterm investment for the Uchiha clan.

Edit: Also yes the deal does also include giving them money.

I'm specifically addressing the part of the proposal that calls for the babies to be taken away from their mothers immediately.

I'm given to understand it's a very modern perspective to care for a baby in particular given that for the time period a large portion of them would die.

The women are allowed to visit the children whenever they want, with no stated limits on duration of stay. There isn't anything officially stopping them from spending all their time with the children in the Uchiha compound. If the Uchiha got stroppy about paying for it, the women could even go back to Gōketsu for meals and sleep but otherwise live at the Uchiha compound.

The point of the agreement is that the kids need to live at Uchiha so they bond with Uchiha and consider themselves Uchiha, but there's no reason they can't see their mothers. Mari was careful to negotiate that point because she knew it would be important to Hazō.

It won't happen. Mari-sensei is already dead. The creature wearing her skin is no more Goketsu (nee Inoue) Mari than you are.

Also, you don't know that I'm not a Gouketsu. For all you know, I'm a QM pretending to be an in-story character who got access to Hazou's mindscape and is pretending to be an ordinary poster. It would explain a few things, actually.

Because I know that you are actually a hunter-nin from Hidden Squash. I have seen you in person on no less than six occasions.
 
I'm actually not too worried about Mari. If she has the spoons to be playfully fucking with Hazuo for her own amusement then she should be at least partially fine.

See her inviting Ami in before breakfast, exactly as was predicted
 
Quick announcement: There have been minor tweaks to the dialogue in chapter 259. When I originally wrote it I had forgotten that Nakano's entire team had already been at one of the game nights and had gamed with Hazō. No semantic changes, mostly just shifting things around and writing some bridgework. Also, I had sometimes referred to him as 'Jinno Yūdai' and sometimes as 'Jitto Yūdai'. It is now Jinno in all places.

Okay, back to writing today's update.
