@eaglejarl:

Keep in mind that Yuhi is a player in this too, and that leaves a number of cases:

  • Asuma has not told Yuhi
    • Yuhi has figured it out
    • Yuhi has not figured it out
      • Yuhi is trying to keep plausible deniability
      • Yuhi isn't trying to keep plausible deniability
      • Yuhi is just oblivious.
  • Asuma has told Yuhi
    • Yuhi as misgivings
    • Yuhi does not have misgivings
In all but one of those cases additional rolls are required to ensure Yuhi doesn't tip off Mari. Whether it be to hide her confusion, keep up the act, or to actively sucker Mari in.

The one other case, where Yuhi is oblivious, seems unlikely since she'll have to fail rolls against Asuma. She would probably get a hefty circumstance modifier for noticing Asuma acting different and she probably has more deception skill than him anyway.

Either way, there's probably a pile of opposed rolls between Mari and Yuhi that could tip Mari off.

So, I'm thinking about nixing the Ino section (we'll most likely not get to it anyway) and replacing it with the following, as per @MadScientist's suggestion:
[x] Action Plan: Disheartening Lack of All-Consuming Horror
Wordcount: 299
Timeline: Immediately after Chapter 269.

  • Continue:
    • On Ami:
      • Can we trust her? Alternatively, does Mari have her handled?
      • Any insights into her mind?
      • Should we spend her favour? Ideas:
        • Maximize our political influence in Leaf.
        • "Maximize my social competence".
        • Acquire us IN social training.
    • We need manpower. Suggestions:
      • Adopt competent civilians: socially adept people, an accountant, teenagers suitable for politics/spycraft training...
      • Get outside-clan operatives, from major clans and clanless alike: people who'd run errands for us in exchange for favours/money/privileges.
    • Should we develop our positive relationship with the Kuronuma Group? Sell ice/salt, promise help against the Akasugi for assistance?
    • Adoption: What clanless jounin are available?
      • Adopt Kurenai, giving Asuma an excuse for political marriage?
    • Tsunade: Promise her funding before Hiashi?
      • Through Asuma, or by suggesting collaboration on land-clearing scheme.
    • Who are the remaining Leaf jounin? Their political affiliations?
    • What'll happen to the Dog/Turtle Scrolls?
      • Should we reconsider adopting Lee, if Turtles are his?
    • Weaponizing EM: Hot air rises, cold air falls. Setting up a cold effect above a hot one should create a stationary tornado. Useful for land clearing?
  • Prepare for and schedule meetings:
    • Tomorrow: Ino (lunch), Chouza (afternoon), Asuma (dinner).
    • Overmorrow: Shino, Minami, Team Nakano, Keiko (to discuss Summoning).
  • Contingency: Ami arrives at the compound (sanity-check with Mari).
    • Put a sign indoors:
      • "Any Ami Mori who got through defenses unassisted to show off (Mari judges) cedes us another favour (–_^)/~~".
    • Carefully introduce to Kagome.
    • Possible discussion topics (Clan + Ami):
      • Establishing communication with her in Mist.
      • Including her in any previously-discussed plots.
      • Akatsuki: They're an existential threat. Pool information, suggest full collaboration on dealing with them.
        • Is diplomacy possible? Perhaps we can influence their idea of "pursuing peace the hard way"...
  • Train creatively.
  • Morning: Work on acquiring operatives with Noburi and Akane.
It'll likely be more efficient, too: instead of time-skipping to lunch, we'll get something done in the morning.

[x] Action Plan: Disheartening Lack of All-Consuming Horror
Just realized I hadn't done that yet.

There's no choice, it's always the exact same red granite.
Do you think it's something a technique hacker could alter? I figure the kind of rock must have been set when the technique was devised, right? Granite makes sense for ninja use because it's really hard and durable.

That being the case, making a special clan only version of Earth Wall that produces halite walls would be a way easier and more economical means of making salt than the ones we're currently considering. We'd just need a technique hacker with the Earth element.

It sounds plausible to alter via Technique Hacking, but we don't really know how that works so there's no way to be sure.

Alright, I implemented the change proposed above. Also, forgot to mention: it includes @faflec's suggestions from this post.
Is this really necessary? I seem to recall, when this was added, that the point was to...preempt her showing up? But I don't see how it actually prevents Ami from showing up. Maybe it's just me, but it seems a bit silly.
No, it's not to prevent her from showing up, just a little "gotcha" if she tries to do what the sign expects her to.

We need manpower. Suggestions:
We have blackmail on unknown civilian authorities, it might be worth checking in on that.
Put a sign indoors:
  • "Any Ami Mori who got through defenses unassisted to show off (Mari judges) cedes us another favour (–_^)/~~".
Maybe change the sign to say: Any Ami Mori who gets inside unassisted to show off (judged by Mari) cedes us another favour (–_^)/~~
Morning: Work on acquiring operatives with Noburi and Akane.
Are we gonna have time for this and prepping for lunch? I'd rather Hazou be well-rested and not otherwise stressed for tomorrow's political meetings...

Uh. Can you expand on what you're referencing here? It's going straight over my head. Why would Yuhi need to tip herself off, for instance? What is it she's trying to hide from Mari?? Just, what???

The fact that Asuma is blaming us for his father's death, plans to get us killed once he's the Hokage, and manages to successfully hide it from Mari. EagleJarl told us all about it, it's no use trying to misdirect us now, @OliWhail.

Why wouldn't he be? It's only 10 PM now.

I'll incorporate the rest of your suggestions later.

Okay but even that answer doesn't explain why she'd need to tip herself off????? Does she have a split personality and the other QMs didn't tell me?!

I don't think so. However, Wikipedia does include Garrow (which can destroy or create sanity), Hooloovoo (a superintelligent shade of blue), Octarine (the color of magic), Plaid (only visible to large intelligent arachnids), Gant (the color that remains when all other colors are eaten), Froon (the color of timelord kidneys; only visible to timelords), and Flicts (a color that is "out of place" and cannot be found anywhere).

I'm sure we could do something with those.
If we're exploiting the Neathbow, irrigo (the forgotten color) and viric (the color of shallow sleep, also useful for Uplift since it stimulates plant growth) would be both more useful and more ninja-like than gant. Or if we want another WMD, EarthScorpion wrote something that seems to include weaponized Color Out Of Space.

Why wouldn't he be? It's only 10 PM now.
As in, based on the plan Hazou would need to discuss with Mari the talks with Ino, Chouza, and Asuma tonight, spend tomorrow morning searching for and talking to potential operatives, and then talk with Ino. That's a lot of stuff going on, I wouldn't like doing that. I'd rather have Hazou spend the morning doing some more prep work so that he's more likely to not flub thing due to exhaustion or something.

I disagree. I doubt that the clan discussion + preparations with Mari would take more than two-three hours, which still leaves 7+ hours for sleep and 4+ hours in the morning for searching operatives and preparing. Let Hazou micromanage himself.

[faflec offers statements that demonstrate no super-long timers have been shown to exist before this]

Good news, everyone! Due in large part to dedicated research by a very sagacious and Twitchy sealmaster, explosive tag technology has improved since you were missing-nin! You can set them to be up to 3 rounds (~10 seconds)!

EDIT: This fact has been added to the "PLAYERS - Known Seals" document.
Adding +1 Loremaster XP for this, since it was never addressed

Huh. I was pretty sure that yes, handseals and callouts actually were necessary. Then again, my brain is cheese.

@faflec or anyone else, have we actually made an official ruling on this?
If you're looking for Dispel in particular...
Additional +1

@faflec Am I correct that Nakano's team has not shown up on screen or been named?
No.

Edit: Unless you are referring to Nakano-the-CE-proctor, in which the answer is yes.
+1

+1, nice job beating out the Loremaster on a Lore question :p

PSA:

We are offering a 5 XP bounty for anyone who will compile the mechanics for all known seals (see link in @faflec's signature) into a world-readable Google doc for easy reference.

We are offering an additional 1 XP per seal for FtD-style mechanics for each of those seals. Note that this only pays out if we actually use the mechanics. The point here is to move the cognitive load off the QMs, so we would ask the players to handle it without much input from us until the final idea is submitted for approval. (If we downcheck it, you are of course welcome to try again. The point is to get working systems without us getting exhausted.)
Did anyone claim the +5, and if so could someone link me?

If you don't already have this link, here's where I've put the mechanics for the seals we currently have that I've written up.

OK, suggested plan:
  • Ask Kagome and Mari if whatever they know about technique hacking suggests that changing the kind of rock produced by Earth Wall might be doable, in order to make a wall that produced solid salt for us to keep as a secret clan technique.
  • If the answer isn't 'definitely impossible', talk to Mari and Noburi about finding a technique hacker with the Earth element to either recruit into the clan or swear to secrecy and hire to do the modification for us and never share the technique with anyone else. We could pay them a lump sum or, if we must, promise them a small cut of our salt profits that will probably add up to a whole lot of money in the long run. Basically a royalty.

Salt? Are you kidding?

Make it diamond.

Gemstones also occurred to me, but I wasn't sure how viable it would be. I imagine someone would have done it by now if it was? I could see it not being enough like stone or some other chakra BS.

You could however try stuff like gold-rich ore. It'd need smelting still, but you'd be a one man gold mine.
