She might want a favor from us in exchange for not using this excellent blackmail material.
Yukari snorted. "My brother Sora accidentally got in the way of an Akimichi ninja two days ago. He didn't actually bump him, just obstructed his path for a moment. The man was in a foul mood, so instead of stepping aside he stiff-armed Sora out of the way. Slammed him into a wall so hard he cracked a rib. He's bruised from shoulder to hip and he can't raise his left arm without pain."
Is it a good idea to be in private with a foreign social spec? Sounds like something the Hyūga could use against us.What evidence would she have? We'll be discussing it in a high-security room, and her credibility is even lower than ours.
Put a sign somewhere visible indoors: "Any Mori who gets through our defenses uninvited to show off (Mari judges) hereby concedes to owe us another favour. (–_^)/~~ ".
I wonder if we could win civilian goodwill by offering free or discounted medical attention to cases such as this...
NOBURI: Have you been injured in an encounter with a ninja that wasn't your fault? Don't trust the merchant council to take your case seriously? Come down the the Gouketsu compound today and use the promo code "UPLIFT" for the tender care of the world's awesomest mednin.
Well, our entire main building is "private" as far as the Hyuuga are concerned, courtesy of Kagome, and this is explicitly a contingency for Ami infiltrating it — if it activates, the question whether it's a good idea loses relevancy. Is it a good idea to be in private with a foreign social spec? "Respect, love, and having made society richer means safety and power for us."
Kenta and Yukari exchanged looks; a lifetime of marriage allowed for what was clearly deep communication, but was utterly opaque to Hazō.
Any conversations Hazou had would still be recorded in the iron nerve- Sure, he'd only hear his half, and the information of it happening would be useful to know in of itself. ...Maybe he should add this to his daily routine, if it can be done quickly enough and without taking too much focus.

In hindsight, I don't think blackmail is the appropriate word for my thoughts. Apologies for that.If she wants us to owe her favours, surely there are less radical ways to arrange that.
- That's petty, they're an existential threat. For that to happen, she'll need to either not take them seriously, or consider us too weak an ally to contribute to mitigating them.
- What evidence would she have? We'll be discussing it in a high-security room, and her credibility is even lower than ours.
- That'd be an actively hostile action, inviting an appropriately hostile response. I'm pretty sure we'll be able to permanently bar her from visiting Leaf if we wanted. Would that be worth it for her?

My reasoning was that she could take control of the rumor mill and get people thinking about how strange it is that Hazou's and Akatsuki's goals seem to align on a lot of things and etc. etc.. Basically get the similarities between Hazou and Akatsuki out there. Or alternatively she could do what she did last time and use a compromised courier to send implicating intel, though she'd have to be far more cautious about it if she wanted to avoid it being obviously her that's responsible for it. With that done and rumors spread, she's free to offer to quash them...for a favor.
And Akatsuki is an existential threat, meaning that attempting diplomacy suggests that we're willing to at least consider compromising. With the existential threat that killed our Hokage and Clan Head.
Wait, if Kagome knows this, why is he willing to use stupid boxes, which are activated by literally destroying a storage seal with oil, water, and hot coals? Is it really so uncommon that he willingly designed an attack method with a non-zero risk of nightmare seal failure?
Why would she need to? SHe knows Hazou well enough to manipulate him if she wanted to.... ohhhhhhh that's a scary, scary possibility.
... OH FUCK
OH FUCK OH FUCK OH FUCK
TRUTH LOST IN THE FOG ALLOWS FOR GROUNDHOG DAY ATTACK

We were all this and more during the Exams, yet it didn't stop her from pulling her marriage schtick. And yes, I recognize that it didn't end up doing anything, but the fact that the possibility was shown concerns me, to say the least.Instead of thinking about ways Ami can fuck us over in detail, we should instead assess whether it benefits her in the mid to long term to do so.
I don't think it does. We're a potential ally, blood brothers with her sister, and we're on our way to a meteoric rise to power in Leaf over the next decade or so if we play our cards right. Why would she stick a knife in our back now? We're probably the best vector available to accomplish her longterm geopolitical goals, assuming they are reasonably benign, which I think at this point we can say they are in the neighborhood thereof.
But... she can do this already? If it was her goal to create a reputational problem for us and then offer to fix it, there are thousands of ways to do that, ways that are less obviously tracked back to her (we discuss approaching Akatsuki with her in private, and then suddenly there are rumours about us being in bed with them, hmm).My reasoning was that she could take control of the rumor mill and get people thinking about how strange it is that Hazou's and Akatsuki's goals seem to align on a lot of things and etc. etc..

Yes, she can do this already, so the last thing we should do is give her ammunition. The mere fact of our conversing behind anti-spying seals is gonna spread a whole bunch of rumors, from Akatsuki to going back to Mist to bloody coup to...yeah. Whole bunch of rumors, which she can pick and choose which ones to fan. Her sneaking in isn't something we can stop, though.But... she can do this already? It was?The marriage schtick was a joke though. You're talking about treason level blackmail. The marriage thing was a "2"on the Danger-o-meter and this is like an "8" if done competently.
Yes.
