Look like we already settled on an action plan. I wonder if we could get an update early out this week.
This is really not that kind of quest.

Plans here are complicated, and QMs are going to execute them, even if it means executing characters we spent literal years with.
A single mistake can cause a tragedy. "I'd go pretty damn far" was a single, off-hand line in a plan. It nearly killed our entire cast.

Planmakers and players discuss and tweak plans. What we settled on is merely the first version of a single plan. It will change, in small but important ways.
Even now, there's talk of an additional layer of error-checking (fresh perspective from uninvolved players).
All this takes time, and a fixed schedule let's people know how much they have.

Updating early could be potentially disastrous. Especially if said plan ends the current quest, which it can, somehow.

Welcome to Marked for Death. By principle the single most difficult quest on this site.

Pretty sure it's been strongly implied if not outright stated that Hazou dying doesn't end the quest, so I'm not sure how the current plan (which displays a distinct absence of continent-destroying nukes) would render the game unplayable. But yes, risks to things we care about exist.

Fair point.
Still- I can imagine making a new thread for a new character at this point, if only to not be constantly reminded of 5k pages of adventures that ultimately ended in tragedy.

Well, MfD managed to stealth genre-shift into a shonen fic?
I'm sure Velorien would be perfectly happy to disabuse you of that notion.
Honestly... I feel like you're expecting too much shounen out of this kid in a ratfic :p
This is a collective 'you', not a specific one, to be clear.

It's kind of why I think it's pointless to ask Jiraiya to do this.

You can say "Well Akane beat out Tsunade's"... but, uh, how do you know Tsunade was trying all that hard? If she was really trying, I suspect Akane wouldn't have been able to so much as think.

She was giving Akane the opportunity to try to prove herself in her own eyes as worthy of her attention, not, ah, putting her back into it, so to speak.

I'm not meaning to be a debbie downer on y'all's fun or anything, but like... this story isn't run by narrative conventions. That doesn't mean we can't have a cool scene out of it, but you really shouldn't expect him to be able to even remotely withstand Jiraiya's KI.

I mean, the plan asks for Jiraiya to use "a bit" of his killing intent for the explicit purpose of training to resist it. If Tsunade could limit herself to an amount Akane could withstand (with effort), then it stands to reason that Jiraiya can probably do the same for Hazou.

Depend on what Jiraiya think "a bit" of his killing intent mean, I don't have any expectation of Hazō winning. Also Tsunade was naturally intimidating to Akane even if Tsunade doesn't do anything.

The plan has Hazou explicitly tell Jiraiya that it's for training purposes. I imagine Jiraiya will either use a small enough amount to be useful for training, or use the smallest amount he can & it'll still be too much. If the latter, we've lost nothing by trying, and the former seems significantly more probable.

Blah. Then the issue is settled. Unless people have other concerns about the plan?

"The principle, however, is the same. Sufficient raw fear will lead a target to fill in the blanks on their own initiative. It requires a certain kind of will, and a certain specialised form of body language."

"Huh. Is that something I could learn?"

"I doubt it." Keiko's eyes half-closed for a second in some uncertain negative emotion. "You have too much light in you. When you attempt to intimidate, it is through deception. You exaggerate or mislead, because fundamentally, you do not wish to destroy your enemies, merely to overcome them. You lack killing intent. I, on the other hand, need only to project what I am outwards. You could call it talent, if you were feeling cruel."

He has the Iron Nerve. He only has to generate the right body language once, and then can freely intimidate through deception afterwards. Well, he might want to develop a variety of different intensities and varieties of this, but fundamentally he only has to get it right once.

[✓] Head right back into Konoha and BUY A YOUTHSUIT!
My eyes! It buuuurns! (especially against white background)

If you keep this up, I will add an extra touch of order to the MfDverse. For a span of time, things will be a little more structured, a little more predictable, and the heart of the world will beat like clockwork. And it'll all be your fault.

If anyone tries to game this, I will remind you that "predictable" does not in any way mean "good".

Ah, you truly are the evil QM, to use light mode. :p

Little known fact:
A villain that I hold in high regard is Xanatos.

To plan such that every path leads to victory is the route traced along filigree clockwork, etched into every Everett Branch and wound more tight than the closeness of space and time. Those who drown in chaos create clockwork machinations at their whim, but leave them at the wayside with the slightest

Updated plan. I'm on mobile and can't run a wordcount though. Someone pls help?

Alright.

Wordcount: I don't even know anymore

[x] Action Plan: The Power of Love to Go Even Further Beyond

  • While practicing KI with Kei, attempt to project outwards Hazou's own soul. Not a will to destroy, but to protect. Even under the terrifying pressure of Kei's KI, Hazou projects a warmth of (sibling!) love that will melt the ice mirrors and deliver to Kei the spiritual and absolutely-not-physical hug she so clearly needs. If Hazou is mentally sundered by the mirrors so be it, Kei's Killing Intent will not push away his support.
  • Try to grab an hour or so of Jiraiya's time, alone.
    • Mindset: This is going to be the most brutal thing you have ever experienced. Prepare mentally.
    • Ask him about the killing intent thing.
      • What's the deal there?
    • Help us practice resisting it, pretty please?
      • Its a critical vulnerability if some Jonin can just floor us by glaring at us, and then slit our throats.
    • Ask Jiraiya to floor you with a bit of his killing intent.
      • You are the scariest and strongest guy around, sir.
      • Please don't accidentally kill us or break our minds or something, though.
    • Now. Get. Up.
      • You are Hazou Gouketsu ,son of Hana and Shinji.
      • Just one man.
      • Jiraiya is also just one man.
      • If you can't face him in a clash of wills, how will you stand against the world itself?
      • Remember the countless thousands of innocent people barely surviving in this hellhole.
      • Fight like theirlives depend on it. Because theyare depending on you!
      • Giving up simply isn't an option. It never will be, as long as they're on the line.
      • By all the kami in heaven, you will Uplift this world.
      • Embrace the fiery passion of your ideals, forge your iron nerves to steel, and cast your defiance into the teeth of gods and men alike!
      • Stand. Raise your head high and look Jiraiya in the eye.
    • Repeat a few times.
      • Try to at least raise your head and look Jiraiya in the eye.
      • But don't hurt yourself.
  • Ask Jiraiya for intel on our competitors.
  • Make seals.
  • Proceed to the tournament.

@MadScientist It says 332 on wordcounter net. What all did you add? Or am I using a less than helpful website?

P.S.: I actually preferred the previous version of the mantra. Please don't hate me.
