@eaglejarl, @OliWhail, @Velorien, is there any possibility we could still get an infodump on enemy bloodlines? In case there are some esoteric ones, or especially powerful ability combinations, that we need to specifically plan for.
Ino-Shika-Cho's intact fort. Intact, that is, minus the couple corners and walls that had been destroyed to help to give the appearance that there had been conflict.
Um. We did this before the proctor who followed us to spy on our every move followed us to spy on our every move, right?

How would we get that information, out of curiousity? They're all unconscious.

e: And the obvious answer of "Interrogate them for their clan secrets" is, uh. A declaration of war.

Leaf/Mist dossiers memorized by Keiko/Shikamaru, observations of all eighteen of us during Chuunin Exams, and ~common knowledge of several villages.

There were other Wakahisa, right? We should have dosed their barrels with sleeping potion or something, just in case they're too dumb to anticipate being poisoned.

It would later be said that Goketsu Hazou would come to eclipse his adopted father in all ways. This includes perversion.

[] Flash-Forward Interlude: Hazou's Hiraishin Experimentation teleports him and Jiraiya to Tsunade's Bathchamber

"Fort Specialist Paneru has lodged a complaint against the idea that we want to encourage an all-out assault next round," Keiko relayed dryly
Paneru best pangolin.

Wait a moment.
"We all need to be coordinating to make sure Super Team Red happens. Shika thinks it'll practically happen on its own, but he's never had the best grasp of people-- <...> when [he is] looking down on people less clever than [him], [he] still manages to overestimate them sometimes."
As it currently stands, eighteen people are aware of our collaboration with ISC: ISC, Team Uplift, Team Uplift's teammates and ISC's teammates. STR would need to trust ISC to go along with their plan, and trust them even more if we want to have ISC push our strategy on them. Since everyone involved are ninja, STR will be suspicious, and double-check ISC's story as a matter of course. There will be social specialists among the checkers, and there are socially inadequate people among those in the know. One of them will give the plan away if we don't ensure this doesn't happen, and then we're completely screwed.

We need to ensure that this doesn't happen, which, given the rules of social combat, means limiting social interaction between less socially savvy members of our little conspiracy and everyone else, in a natural manner.
Surely the socially inadequate are self-intelligent enough to recognize that they're socially inadequate, and fuck off themselves?
Can we just assume that Shikamaru Ex Machina will have accounted for this and have Ino do some social-fu to keep away the carrion swarm?
Well, maybe. Then we need to know what it is that he came up with, to account for that in plans for break day. Or maybe he overestimated their social competence or something.
Honestly if Shika doesn't account for trivial details like this and the whole thing crashes down: Our foot will be 3 feet up his ass next Round, ISC alliance or not, -1000 penalty or not.

We're doomed. At least we'll get to finally punch Shika.

I would consider "Have Ino figure that out." to satisfy "Shikamaru took this into account." :p

It sounds like hes literally making Ino do all the social legwork there (and likely why shes talking and not him). Slothful AF.

On the other hand, a more worrying topic.

@OliWhail @eaglejarl @Velorien

If the next update is going to be the party, can we get a bit of info OOC as to what did and didnt go through behind the scenes from the Retroactive Prep part? Most of this was done in Oli's authors notes but I think a few bits mightve been left out. In particular the following was sort of a crucial bit:

Strongly suggest steering STR to assault in two groups: through "safe" aboveground path + underground.
  • Intent: Limit attack vectors to those we can counter.
  • Would seem advantageous to STR: Avoids sealmaster's prepared ground.

Can we assume ISC was cool with this or did they object for some reason?

He eventually fucked off when it was clear nobody was in danger.
Somehow this makes me hate the proctors just a tiny bit more. Cant quite place the reason.
This eternally-damned meatsack-inhibiting piece of a sad excuse of a government. So he stood in the way of our experimentation, yelled at us, and then just left? He... He...

... Did Hazou or Keiko memorize his face? Also, do we have any plans to embarrass Mist with another Lizardbreath-esque disaster? I'm asking these questions for no particular reason.

I am told that we don't need a thermometer for doing iron smelting research. That being said, I think research into medieval Japan's metallurgy will give us knowledge of the state of the art of the Elemental Nation.

Random idea: use some of the money we get from the pangolins to outright hire ninja with earth jutsu for c ranked missions to uplift civilians. They make buildings, fix walls, arrange terrain, etc. Ninja without useful jutsu could deliver supplies/move things/break rocks. ninja report back to us with what they saw, which helps us get better at uplift.

Other benefits:
  • Make us look like saints
  • Build civilian trust
  • Make ninja see civilians as people
  • Economic boost
  • Its also obviously an information gathering network.

I wouldn't want to devote more than 5 pounds of gold a month. I have no idea how many c ranks that gets us.

We might be able to make things cheaper if we work things out with the merchant council. We get allowance to make our own things however we please, provided it is only given away for free in ways that don't compete with existing industries.

---

Where exactly all the gold is going is a mystery to me. It would be helpful if we sat with Jiraiya after the exams and asked for an allowance, just to make it explicit how much money we are allowed to use for our own schemes. We need money to build our own power bases independent from (though still subordinate to) him.

Speaking of overestimating people, is anybody accounting for the possibility of somebody getting murderously angry? Between the stupid cow factor and the groupthink that is being deliberately cultivated it seems pretty easy for somebody or even everybody to decide that they could get away without getting caught, or that nobody is going to respond to a murder conducted by a team composed of members of every village by disqualifying everybody.

Hazou and Noburi have already come dangerously close to being murdered once.

I'm absolutely in favor of this, though you haven't mentioned the most important benefit it provides.

The way we should do this, I think, is assemble a team from anyone who signs up, and then go on a tour of Fire Country villages, fixing things along the way in a manner similar to what Team Uplift did before they decided to be Team Uplift. I think it's very important that at least Hazou goes along with this - a minor benefit is that his pro-civilian sentiment remains grounded in a desire to actually help real people, rather than an abstract political doctrine.

The major benefit is that we get to interact with ninja who (presumably) prefer to spend their time helping civilians instead of doing other C-ranks. These people are the best prospects for our future egalitarian political movement, and establishing contacts with them will help us in many ways. As we start to establish a real organization (rather than a clan of five), we're going to need trustworthy personnel whose ideas broadly align with ours; this is a really good way of creating an initial recruitment pool.

Incidentally, I'm in favor of putting in some effort into befriending Yamamoto Haru for similar reasons.

So when do you think the soonest is that will be able to get to work on setting up a traveling circus? It'll have to be sometime after the exam Maybe give the party about a week of rest before working on another project. We have to balance it against the other priorities that leaf has but it's a large organization they should have people that can take over some of our duties that we were fulfilling.
