I was thinking more on the lines of a circus. A way of improving the stability of the Ninja Village hidden in the leaves by having a traveling circus featuring tamed chakra Beasts for all to observe the power required to hold such events. It would also be another means of soft projection of power that the other nations would have to address.

1)They have some form of steel presumably since that word is used throughout MfD. (If not, make that somehow for sure. Try to reverse engineer Steelspine metal?)Working on production of that would help.

While recognizing that, from a Doylist perspective, kunai are an aesthetic/thematic thing - the fact that a significant majority of metal weapons are small, disposable knives suggests that metalworking is somehow low-end, whether because of technological or resource scarcity reasons. I think kunai have been referred to as steel, not iron, but I'd bet they're rarely (if ever) high, or even particularly good, quality.

E: On Steelspines - the name certainly implies that steel the metal is a thing, but I'd strongly suspect they aren't actually made of proper steel - they've been described as being infused with Earth Chakra, which is then the source of their strength. Then again, it's also possible someone discovered steel-the-metal early because of some esoteric bloodline ability to manipulate metal or what-have-you.

Yeah most likely.

If need be we could probably eventually cook up some sort of blast furnace, perhaps aided by sealcraft. This would help greatly with steel production instead of having them fold something 1000 times in the forging process.

Huh. Going by their being invented in China in the 1st century, it seems plausible they exist; also, while some seals might be useful, this is also a place where the right jutsu could make a difference (air to improve flow, or maybe fire to run at higher temperatures).

E: Though, I'm pretty sure the 1000-fold thing was to make up for poor ore quality, not ignorance of blast furnaces.

Necromancy. Bring back important Leaf scholars and generals, and let them do their thing.

That's considered a magictech.

Possibly due to poor metalworking techniques.

Something like wootz/Damascus would be awesome and it is within the realm of acheviable but I am not sure if it will revolutionize warfare.

My preference is to use no ninjustu and sealworks in ironworks beside studying and learning metallurgy.

Look at Song Dynasty. They shows mass production of iron is possible.

Yes, but Im not sure which version of that device is the most optimal that can be done with current tech levels and jutsu.

Then we do vanilla improvements on the blast furnace possibly (or pay some people to do it).

Edit:

Although it doesnt really matter if we cook up some jutsu assisted stuff to do it first. This would likely demonstrate feasibility.

While I'm sympathetic to your position, the problem there is that seals and jutsu are our only field of comparative advantage - we don't have any brilliant engineers to revolutionize metalworking with, but we do have a creative ninja sealmaster. Low-hanging fruit in the realm of "use a ninja combat power for mundane stuff" is much more plausible than "build a better blast furnace".

I didn't say don't use justu and seals. It's just that I don't want ninja magic to be involved in the operation of a furnace.

Using force walls, temperature sensor seals, glorious lifesaver, etc is fair game.

Though I do see the benefit and merit of using ninja magic for prototype furnace, if only to demonstrate proof of concept.

Y'all have a real habit of simply asserting that seal-related things will be easy. I've never understood why.

We should be able to create an antimatter bomb pretty easily, right? We just slurp up 100kg of mass into a macerator, then figure out how to flip the "charge" bit. We can even leave it lying around at the place we want to destroy until someone sees its a storage scroll and opens it out of greed.

Hrm, this is really good. But why hasn't anyone thought of this already?

...

...

*shrug* I guess I'm just THAT smart.

Yeah, sounds easy enough. We should get Hazo~ working on this ASAP.

I think that's more an artifact of the fact that jutsu-casting requires complex hand motions, so many ninja are in the market for small disposable knives that they can drop or throw away at will without costing themselves significant resources.

Friends I come before you today to advocate that during the month long break we should go on a quest. A quest that will cement our legend for an entire generation. My friends we will acquire the Condor and Capybara summoning scrolls.

We have started our legend in this event. By taking on every exam contestant we have shown we have the seeds of greatness within us. However to truly achieve the lofty position as the Second Sannin we must strike out and do what most would think as impossible.

We are currently in a position that we can achieve finding 2 scrolls if we act fast. By using Kei's influence with the pangolins, the fact we know the scrolls would be at the Hinago Medical Facility and, our connection with the Mist Yakuza we are in an incredible position to track them down

Now some of you might be screaming at the risk we would be taking. That any contact with any ninja is certain death. To those few paranoid few I understand your concern. Luckily for us it is not bad as you fear. For you see it will not just be the Goketsu clan going on this mission. No we will convince Jiraiya to send a jounin with us. The man of a 1000 Jutsu. Who is said to be as strong as a Kage. The copy cat ninja. The one the only Hatake Kakashi.

With that level of firepower plus the incredibly creative hive mind this mission is well within our capabilities. Once we successfully completed it we will cement our legend, be able to communicate with each other safely at any time, have new trading partners, access to infiltration techniques that have recently became much more valuable and the ability to all bring out jounin level fighters.

This my friends is our destiny

We are currently in a position that we can achieve finding 2 scrolls if we act fast. By using Kei's influence with the pangolins, the fact we know the scrolls would be at the Hinago Medical Facility and, our connection with the Mist Yakuza we are in an incredible position to track them down
"Don't you start," Hazō said. "I was actually going to ask what happened with the pangolin-condor mission from before. Did it get cancelled because the political situation changed? Did somebody else do it and not tell us? Or is it still on the cards?"

"As it happens, I received an update the last time I visited the Seventh Path. It seems the Condor Clan cancelled the meeting after the Hokage's ill-fated battle, presumably because the Condor Summoner is too busy seeking new human allies for the clan now that Mist has been weakened. That and I imagine the so-called Condor Resistance has enough other concerns at the present time."
So I'm pretty sure this means the Condor and Capybara Summoning Scrolls are not at thie Hinago Medical Facility. Are you proposing we track down where they went after that point? Because this seems, to me, to be a wild goose chase. With other issues, like why we are going at all when Kakashi can do this himself.

Yes we start if by researching the Hinago Medical Facility. At the same time we have the Pangolins apply a little lead pipe interrogation to the Condor resistance to find out where the summoner has gone. As for why we go instead of is for 2 facts. First we have shown our ability in the current event to destroy chunnin level opposition. Second because we are going to get a solid plan together that we will pitch to Jiraiya. If he then points out the dangers we suggest that a jounin leader could be assigned. We then suggest Kakashi as an option

How about we try to bootsrap ourselves closer to Chunin level in Alertness (godstat) and fill in /boost a variety of other things so that we dont get killed on the first actual chunin mission we go on (which may be related to Akatsuki in all likelihood)?

So...the Hinago Medical Facility might generate a lead. I say "might" because it is physically possible for a lead to be generated. And I use this language because my personal opinion is that the Hinago Medical Facility will not end up generating such a lead.

The Condor Resistance giving up the Summoner's location...is possible. More important is her identity, obviously. Why? Because we already have knowledge that the Condor Summoner is either a Mist-nin in good standing with Mist or a Mist-aligned ninja in good standing with their village. Which leads me to a related issue.

I don't see how we can get the Condor Summoning scroll (and, more importantly, use it) without killing the previous owner. Which is a problem because said user is either a Mist-nin in good standing with Mist or a Mist-aligned ninja in good standing with their village. The Chūnin Exams are a time where all the villages say "we aren't fighting each other, doing otherwise is an act of war". Us going off to kill a foreign ninja in good standing with their village breaks that agreement, and now everyone is bulldozing Leaf. Because of us. And if your response is "Well, we don't have to show that we got the scroll until later...", then I counter-ask "Why are we doing this now instead of after the ceasefire?".

The Capybara Summoning Scroll may or may not have the kill-a-village-nin issue (I don't know if it's been signed since the aborted meeting) but comes with the even greater issue of "we have even fewer leads".
As for why we go instead of is for 2 facts. First we have shown our ability in the current event to destroy chunnin level opposition. This...doesn't really answer the question I asked. All it shows is that a) we can demolish low-mid tier opposition, which isn't necessary if Hatake Fucking Kakashi is getting involved, and b) we made the plan, which...makes us necessary why, exactly?

And the above issue regarding killing a foreign ninja in good standing with their village. And the extremely low probability we'd be able to find two Summoning Scrolls within a single month, even with Kakashi's assistance, as stated above. And the fact that we can't efficiently train/research while on the road. And the literal inability of us to get involved in politics/social (which admittedly isn't such a bad thing).

You mean you aren't going to vote for it :p

I'm personally open to being convinced, just don't expect it to be a good use of time over the month break.
Fucking around and spending too much time not trainng over the break is how we lose in the tournament and Jiriaya loses the hat and makes everything one order of magnitude more difficult for us afterwards.

Like, maybe it would be a good idea post-exam. But not right now.

Even then, I am thoroughly convinced there's better use of our time than to risk life and limb against potential S-rank targets, even with Kakashi. And no way hell I would want to risk Kakashi either.

I strongly second this.

At absolute worst we can murder some other idiots for their summoning scrolls later on, or go on some other crazy adventures to unearth really old ones.

There's also the consideration that Hazou has been characterized to abhor killing for the sake of power. I mean, look no further than his opinion of clan secrets.

I feel like he is most opinionated on deep seated societal power imbalances first and foremost if you look at his opinion re: civilains v ninja, clanless v clan ninja.

I dont actually think that his moral restraints would extend to a ninja already cast in a purely adversarial position (Someone like Arikada for example).

Purely adversarial, no. However, that's not exactly the context that seeking someone out explicitly to kill them for the power doing so would provide would be.
