I'm not familiar with threadmarks. How would you like me to use them?
At the bottom of each post there is a little button called threadmark. You just click that and add a title. Generally speaking they're used for story posts to make navigation easier as an indexing system, allowing a reader to move from one story post to the next without having to read through pages of people voting on things. Sometimes they are also used for omake.

Targets that can't defend themselves are generally civilians we have an interest in killing, rather than ninja that would know basic anti-genjutsu techniques ad won't sit still during a fight.

Kinda irrelevant now, but I was actually referring to ninja in bad positions to resist/fight back (eg. asleep, on the toilet, otherwise heavily distracted) as opposed to people who don't know how to counter genjutsu.

I'm still interested in finding a way to get some sort of bloodline, as that seems like an up front investment that can pay off down the line. Possibly an observational bloodline similar to the sharingan (but without the genjutsu bonuses or advanced reaction time that it grants) that allows us to gain xp/skills from situations such as training or observing fights?

If you take a bloodline, the character will be squishy to start with. That's a perfectly valid choice though -- there are plenty of NPC ninja around to be your meatshields, and it could lead to significant power later if you can find a munchkinable bloodline. Maybe something that requires working with others -- enhancing/being enhanced by fellow ninja?

Cool, thanks. I've added a 'story' (all lowercase) tag to the initial post.

I don't know half those places. Is anime-only content considered to be part of this quest?
Generally speaking, no. The places on the map exist but their similarity to anything that showed up in filler is going to be limited. You are not, for example, going to find a magical time travel kunai sitting in the middle of an abandoned city.

I've got a couple of ideas for bloodlines:

Heavy Chakra: Can imbue chakra into objects in contact with skin, which temporarily increases their weight.

Double Sight: Extended field of view (Around 210 degrees, or less), can perceive effectively

Generous Chakra: Large chakra pool that wants to transfer to others, harder to use personally (This can be interpreted in a way that balances this out)

Hawk Eye: Can see from a farther distance with greater clarity

Fleeting Chakra: Chakra destroys other chakra (Does not drain), lessened chakra pool, active chakra techniques weakened or have higher chakra costs

Heat Vision: Sight is replaced with thermal vision, no colors, can't see nonliving objects.

Shielding Chakra: Can expend chakra to negate damage, can't reduce damage to less than half, fairly expensive

Stinging Skin: Skin to skin contact creates varying levels of pain based on surface area of contact. With training, can pierce light barriers. Skin is more fragile

Echolocation: No sight, really good hearing

Eidetic Memory: Remembers everything, can't forget traumatic experiences. Penalty to composure.

Remote Chakra: Can store chakra in objects, can sense if other chakra contacts an imbued object. Chakra stored reduces chakra maximum until reabsorbed or object is destroyed. Shenanigans possible here at GM's discretion.

EDIT: Not very specific with these, hopefully fixed

[X] Ninjutsu Specialist, you're throwing fire from behind the meatshields.

I know having meatshields make sense if we want to increase our survival odds but I am not sure we should solely rely on that and work on making sure we could survive traveling alone. On the bloodline thing how about Uzumaki clan? Havinga large pool of chakra isn't really that overpowered and being able to use hundreds of clones for training will make learning new skills way easier, not to mention that having hundreds of clones at once give us a lot of versatility.

I'm also leaning towards the Mole plan but don't see how it can really work without the Not-Breathing Bloodline. Since this is supposed to be a rational quest I'm assuming we won't have the insane lung capacity that ninjas had in the the story, and with a normal lung capacity escaping by tunneling underground won't let us go very far at all unless we move at ridiculous speeds.

Question to the GM: Can we purchase items using our points, and do we have any items on our person (kunai, shuriken)?

Holy crap is that vetoed. Feel free to know the kage bunshin, but you're not going to be able to have more than a handful of clones, max. Otherwise the story devolves to "Day 1: create 1,000 kage bunshin to train with. Day 1.25: Become god."

You can assume you have all basic ninja gear -- kunai, shuriken, camping equipment -- anything that you likely would have had on you during a mission. If you want anything unusual just ask. Personally, I'm inclined to be pretty lenient about equipment, because it makes for interesting story options and (unlike bloodlines, skills, and jutsu) it's possible to have it get stolen if it starts breaking the story.

Ok we just buy a rebreather to breathe underground without spending a bazillion points on a otherwise useless bloodline limit.

There, problem solved.

I'll have to get back to you on that come morning when there are more of us about.

Just to note that insane lung capacity is neither rational nor irrational in a world where people can punch through steel, and many things may or may not eventually be done with seals if you can find someone skilled in such.

Aug's the one who knows best how the points work, but you can be assumed to have a full loadout that the type of ninja you choose would normally take to battle - seeing as you thought you were going on a mission when all this kicked off. Limited, of course, to what a genin could reasonably own. You will at the very least have some kunai and shuriken whatever you happen to choose.

For a sensory bloodline, what do people think of tactile chakra sense? Not as powerful as the eyes, but also not as overwhelming. Can help with learning, the application of control skills, and touch range combat.

What exactly do you mean by that? Being able to feel how Chakra is structured in an object by touching it?

This kind of makes me wonder if we could maybe have perfect chakra control, like Sakura, as a bloodline.

I personally do not think bloodlines are necessary; we can mimic the effects of any number of bloodlines that have been suggested by ramping up Technique Modification/Development, and it makes us significantly more flexible with our needs.

Side note: Do you guys think we should take chakra sensing as a skill? It would be immensely useful in tracking/avoiding fights and it doesn't require a bloodline (necessarily).

I like the idea of having a super perceptive ninja.

Like having a bloodline that enhances all your senses for starter and as you get more skilled with it you end up developping a 6th one (maybe having a better feel on your chakra or something more BS).

It's simple, nice, it's more difficult for ennemies to get the drop on you thus easier to survive aka run away.

You put some decent skills in Stealth with that and you have a cool basic char.

That's I guess, still I think just having a few clones to train with should still seriously speed up training even if it's just a handful of clones.

Alright, so, before I get number crunching, I'd like one of these builds.

- 'Face' Social/Genjutsu
- 'Nuke' Ninjutsu/Chakra
- 'Assassin' Nin-Taijutsu/Stealth(?)

Has anyone made these, or would anyone prefer a build over another?
