@MMKII while that is a possibility, it's fairly remote. The stampede is unlikely to kill anyone, and everything else that's happened is well within the boundaries of "Chuunin Exam candidates being a bit overzealous". Putting that aside, the question is whether it's even possible for Hazou to make things better. I suppose we could open the door, but I'm not sure what else would actually help. Normally the solution to a situation like this is to give people room to disperse naturally, you can't really force a panicked crowd do to anything specific.

It's Akane, isn't it. Akane is the MC.

So, who does that make Hazou? Are we re-enacting something like Berserk's Golden Age Arc here?

A distraction to investigate the manor grounds.

But, they wouldn't know that was us, necessarily. But yeah, the obviousness of the alcohol Misterator was one of the reasons I didn't want to put it in my plan. Now, if we use the seal again while in Mist, it will immediately tell anyone present at the scene that it was us who set off this alcohol cloud.

My take on things, condensed in one place:

- I strongly believe that even if we are caught running, that we will not be disqualified or lose 30k points. Even if they tried to, we could appeal since they have zero proof that we caused either the environment to heat up, the explosion of the tipserator. Still, we should try to avoid detection anyway just to make things easier.

- Instead of going to the hedge maze as an alibi or into the house, he will go underground and go directly to where his allies are; we are going the low on chakra so getting into a fight by being isolated (hedge maze) or getting lost in the chaos (house) are things we need to avoid at all costs. Even if we should win the combat, there is no guarantee it will be a 1 on 1 thing or that we can do so without making noise (another explosion coming from the place we are in is going to look bad).

- I propose Hazo subsitutes himself with furniture on top of the earth to the left side (with reference the previously linked map), then use the Mole jutsu and tunnels to his allies; he will incur a mild consequence for overdrawing chakra (5%) but I think it is worth it.

- Proctors should be able to handle most of the stampede themselves; even if not, we have no obligation to help them and risk being blamed for doing this (Why else would we help out and sacrifice our chances of promotion, they would argue; and the more ammunition we give them, the more likely it is that they might get away with a DQ after the appeal).

- Once we reach our allies, stay in character and say something similar to this to communicate what happened: "You guys were right to stay here and let me check out this weird heat wave. Apparently, someone tried to gather people up and scare them with explosives! It is a good thing that I let myself be convinced by some of the guests (Shirotsuma the Harlot) to leave before the explosion went off. I hope the rest of the people are alright though."

With the most immediate concerns out of the way, I propose we talk to Shikamaru (&Hinata, I guess?) and ask him whether he wants to cut us into the scoring and which concessions we would have to make to end up in the Top 9 (that being all of the Super Team Leaf).

- We should have built some goodwill by now, shown we value cooperation etc.

- Argue that Leaf making a good show in the Exams is going to go over well.

E: Might just turn that into a plan later.

[jk] Action Plan: Throw a Firelog into the Crowd
oi what gives
*sigh* Alrighty then time to die.

[Χ] Action Plan: Suicide Bomber Start.
This is not an Action Plan.
Hazou's going to activate an explosive tag and unseal a stupid box. He then maneuvers himself such that he is at the center of the crowd when the explosive tag/stupid box combination detonates. Creating a massive inferno that kills pretty much everyone in the area.

The point is that opening the doors will allow them to relieve some of the crowd pressure (think of it as a fluid). This will lessen the chance of injuries significantly. Even if people do end up being slammed against the front of the mansion people will be flowing into the mansion and away from the sides so they wont be severely harmed.

I think we can get a clone to do that. I would like to also have it throw down some alarm seals on the interior of the mansion to alert the proctors to get their asses over there.

Edit: The problem of doing that is we would need to use substitution jutsu to get out of the immediate stampede (we only have one standard action). So I'm thinking we go in through a window and then hobble off after dispelling the clone.

What is the Chunin thing to do in this situation? Do we take action to stop any casualties and or injuries?
We're not Naruto and the Chunin thing to do would be to complete our mission.

If something happens and someone dies then everyone will have to be implicated, not only the leaf contingent.

Let me point this out, the stampede still has hundreds of ninja who can disengage whenever they want. So if a civilian dies then they are just as responsible for this fuck up.

Also allowing something like that to happen will screw over mist as it would paint the proctors and indirectly the mist as incompetent.

I feel like this thing is being blown out of proportion.

I've got an idea.

Move up the pillar so we've got a better angle, then fire off two goo bombs, one toward the very back of the masses, and one near the middle. Then, hold breath and move into the mist, using HLAM.

This way , 2/3 of the crowd isn't stampeding. I'm fairly certain that SOMEONE there will have a wind technique to disperse the alcohol, so we can leave that to them.

No thats the genin thing to do.

This is clearly outside of previous mission parameters and we need to make a judgement call.
No it's not outside mission parameters. The same mission given at the start of the event still applies. None of the proctors called the test off so there is no requirement for reassessment of the mission objective.

In fact the mission is going perfectly well except the little problem of getting out of dodge that we're working on.

They aren't going to give us a medal just because we decided to do the "right" thing, even though it was not us who set the explosion, remember we're still considered traitors. We're actively not liked, so why do you think our actions will be tolerated?

Hmm, would busting through the doors be something that would help?

Make it so people aren't crushed against the wall as much?

Am quite confident that opening the door actually makes the crush worse. When the doors are closed, people bounce off the walls, a clump forms that doesnt have any give/forward motion, and so people don't push in and instead avoid the crowd / go around.

When the doors are open and you can't see what's happening up front, instead just see people just in front of you moving very slowly, you're more likely to try to push and thus add to the force that's crushing people against the human-jammed door.

In fact if we want to be useful we should MEW the door so people aren't even tempted to squeeze through. But I feel that compromises our exam position too much (reveals we know the threat to be false)

[X] Action Plan: Safety First

Goals:
  • Prevent injury from stampedes
  • Get away
Methods:
  • Hazou climbs the pillar, and aims two goo bombs at approximately the back and middle of the crowd, based on his kinesthetic sense.
    • If caught and questioned on this, explain that he was near the front of the pack and was worried about injuries from stampede, so he got an angle to do so to prevent injury.
      • If a Deceit check is required for this, it should(?) allow a free tag on [The Technical Truth]. Additionally, Hazou might be able to tag the Goo Bombs' aspects themselves.
    • [Note of my understanding of things: Goo Bombs launch the goo, it does not explode around them like explosion seals, so he can just hold onto them while activating them.]
    • Hazou assumes that at least one ninja or proctor will have a wind jutsu to dissipate the alcoholic mist.
  • Immediately afterwards, Hazou drops down INTO the front of the mist, and uses Hiding like a Mole to move to regroup with Superteam Leaf and inform them of what's going on.

This plan is little more dangerous to our point values than any other plan, to my knowledge. The worst that could happen would be that a Wakahisa caught us when we dropped into the alcoholic mist, but we should still be able to get away.

Whelp, that settles it, we need to surgically quell this and gtfo or this could really bite us in the ass.

I mean like, if our mission is only "Do the Chunin Exams" then you are correct.

But following this to the letter conflicts with some implicit orders and canon knowledge we have regarding how important these exams are to leaf. If there is even the slightest chance that an incident happens that all of Leaf could be reasonably disqualified for, then we need to take reasonable steps to stop that from happening.

This is all aside from the fact that in character we would probably try to stop these deaths.

Do we have to do something stupid and dramatic to solve this problem? No, of course not.

Should we attempt in some way to de-escalate the situation, yes of course we should.

I don't think it's too much of an issue to take some Mild or Moderate consequences from chakra overdrawing to do this and then bugger off.

Very much this. Doing the right thing might help our standing in Leaf or any other village, but not here.

If we feel that we need to help, we can see about convincing STL to help with the aftermath.

Argument: Mist definitely knows we (Leaf) have Goo Bombs, since we used them in the Second Event and when hunting for word-halves.
