I've been looking at Pokemon Tabletop Union, which seems fairly straightforward but I haven't been able to get a group together. Savage Worlds has a simple system, and is designed to be fast. Stars Without Number/Spears Of The Dawn is a relatively rules-light OSR, though it tends to be pretty lethal. The Playground and RPG.net also have some suggestions. If you don't mind waiting until about December, I've heard good things about Red Markets too (simple resolution, resource-based, but high lethality).

Well, the Murderhobos 'R' Us system, by the dear and possibly departed @ShirowShirow, is simple, semi-universal, and very incomplete. I tried my hand at overhauling it, but it's still got some bits that are horribly complicated and thus hard to balance.

It's interwebs speak. I'm actually surprised you haven't heard of it -- there are quite a few native speakers here. I'm not -that- well versed myself, but I do have some academic experience in studying it. I believe I can translate:
Akane is overpowered. Please make weaker.

This is the literal translation, but it loses some of the intended meaning. I think a more accurate translation would be something like:
This ability makes Akane more powerful than is reasonable. I believe it is necessary to reduce the efficacy of this particular ability and would like to request such from the Quest Masters.

It's still a little off though, because the intent was clearly sarcastic in nature, mixed with some expression of surprise or delight at the idea that the ability might make Akane so powerful. There is also a subtle cultural reference at play, as this type of phrasing originated in gaming communities where individuals would express this idea sincerely in reaction to perceived imbalances.

Unfortunately this is one of those things where you'd just have to understand the language yourself to really appreciate the full meaning.

I wonder if we can combine the timing seals with storage seals to create a seal that periodically pulls in and pushes out water. We should be able to create a seal powered piston using the alternating pressure.

Could work, but we'd probably need it on clay tablets so water damage wouldn't hurt the seals.
 
According to the first post, when this quest started, we had a QM dedicated to mechanics and another dedicated to worldbuilding. I wasn't around back then, but that sounds like a good idea.
Strictly speaking, everyone did all the things (except @eaglejarl and I did the update writing) - @AugSphere did the majority of the mechanics stuff because he had the maths skills and was the most into it, and @Jackercracks just pitched in generally, in a similar fashion as @OliWhail does now. But everybody had a roughly equal part in worldbuilding, according to time and inclination.

How did that happen? It sounds like a fun story.

I decided it was high time to convert my sister to the true faith (especially since she was currently between cartoons), and that dubs would represent a lower barrier to entry, so I looked around to see what anime had Russian dubs. Naruto ended up on the shortlist, due to its vague age appropriateness and the fact that it's Naruto, and happened to be the first thing I showed her. She is no longer interested in anything else. We're near the end of the Wave arc. She deeply, deeply despairs of Naruto, is meh about Sakura and unambiguously into Sasuke, but saves her true boundless passion for Kakashi, who is alternatingly super-cool and super-cute. Her face when he mysteriously collapsed at the end of the first Zabuza fight and she'd used up her allotted TV time for the day was priceless.

Russian dubs are, incidentally, the worst thing ever. You're lucky if you get multiple voices, the translation (from the English, not even the Japanese) makes the worst excesses of Crunchyroll look like high poetry (and I hated CR's Naruto subs so much I joined a fansubbing group to provide an alternative), character voices fluctuate and are regularly all wrong (they made Haku sound like a more vulgar Bart Simpson), they can't keep the same terms, or flashbacks, translated the same way across two consecutive episodes, they make basic factual errors (Naruto wants to become the Sixth Hokage as of the start of the series), and... and... no, it melts my brain too much to even think about it.

I've also learned in the process that early Naruto breaks every single one of the rules we know, without exception. Kakashi can summon a temporary thunderstorm for intimidation purposes with a single hand seal. Shadow clones can have extended punch-ups that leave lasting minor injuries (on the participating original). You can hold on to your Transformation for a few seconds after taking a full body blow. You can turn yourself into shuriken and have someone throw them, and they retain their shuriken-ness when someone deflects them. You can turn yourself into Fūma shuriken with a working folding mechanism. You can do pretty much anything with the Substitution Technique, and use it at any time you're aware of an incoming attack, without hand seals or anything. It just goes on.

I'm not even going to go into the plot holes, because I wouldn't be able to continue faking the semblance of sanity.

Do you, by any chance, have known allergies? Or have you just been getting to sleep later than usual, regardless of waketime? If so, it sounds like something I've had to deal with recently. Small possibility of a joint cause?

Excellent advice for one and all. The t-shirt, however, has already been acquired. Mindfulness is great for getting off to sleep, but what it doesn't do is stop you from waking up in the middle of the night, which I think is the root of the problem.
 
My personal headcanon is that a great deal of the story makes sense if that proper cycle of reincarnation was a long time ago somehow frozen in place by
the Spirit King
, allowing whatever drives the cycle of reincarnation to build up energy and allow human spirits to transcend their physical limits, but my understanding of buddhism and the cycle of reincarnation is likely so shallow and flawed that this theory is almost entirely baseless.

What initially spurred these thoughts was a thesis I found linked on the Bleach subreddit quite a while ago: "Life, Death, and the Cycle of Reincarnation: Buddhist Symbolism in the manga 'Bleach.'" The original post is here (Life, Death, and the Path to Enlightenment: Buddhist Symbolism in the Manga "Bleach" | Thalia Sutton • r/bleach), but given the difficulty of viewing it at all on that website I've got a link to the paper in my personal drive here (Life_Death_and_the_Path_to_Enlightenment.pdf). It's more than a bit long at 80-something pages, but I remember it being a fascinating read. And speaking of which I need to re-read it myself as I couldn't give you a cliffnotes version off the top of my head anymore. Although if I recall correctly it focuses on the first arc up through Aizen's betrayal.

If that's TL;DR material, just give me a week or something and I'll make a summary of some of the points made.
I'll be honest with you, I've read the first quarter of the thesis, and I'm not impressed. I'm by no means an expert, but I studied Buddhism as part of my BA course, and I actually did my MA dissertation on Naruto and Japanese identity construction (it's interesting to read, but ultimately of no use to anybody, much like this thesis), so I do get where the author is coming from on an academic level. However, I feel that they project their image of Buddhism onto Bleach enormously, asserting parallels and references where none exist, and trying way too hard to fit the shonen hero's journey to the Buddhist progression to enlightenment just because both involve some form of character growth and simultaneous/causally-related overcoming of challenges. (Also it's kind of embarrassing how at most a quarter of their bibliography consists of actual academic/educational works.)

Water taijutsu - I proposed the Hypersanguination Technique a while back, and it's a pretty good "back off man" trick, what with the near-guaranteed injury to whoever engages in melee.
Water-based area attacks - Chakra drain is powerful, but sometimes we want to crush a dozen clones in one round, or shut down Plasma Wave no Jutsu. Should be cheap XP-wise, but very expensive (or better yet scalable) in terms of chakra.
Mobility jutsu - We want lots of these, both elemental and non. Ideally, they should stack. We want to be dodge-type tanks, and develop main guns through our ingenuity.
Non-poppable illusory Clones. Seriously, you guys have been ignoring our only non-genjutsu illusion, and I am embarrassed about that. I mean, really, is it so hard to develop half a dozen useful illusions, and combine the Clones, Henge, and mundane disguises to maximize that? Heck, the Seal to copy a static 3D image for up to thirty seconds might be fairly easy, assuming we get the theory behind Clone explained to us.

Oh dear. Perhaps the subs would be better? (I never watch dubs, because then I have to pay heed to the acting. It may get worse if I ever learn Japanese.)

My preferred form of meditation is to count breaths, one to four and then starting at one again. When you get to five or more, that's a clear signal that you've become distracted. Any concentration not used up on the counting is applied to watching the physical breathing process and the general sensations of the body.

I've never really had the sleep latency I'd like, so just this week I made a real effort: no screens within an hour of going to be, put a red bulb in a lamp, read a book in the paper. Previously, I'd been falling asleep somewhere between 22:00 and 23:00; I couldn't fall asleep until 03:30 the next morning.

Yes exercise (in the morning), no naps.

Personally, I suggest staying outdoors 24 hours a day, doing moderate to vigorous physical activity for 8-14 hours a day, and sleeping whenever it gets dark. Hands down the best sleep I've ever gotten.

Ability to maintain any semblance of a normal life may vary.

This daylighting isn't really an option for me since I live with a partner who stays up later than I do. I do take naps because I find it distinctly helps me function, but not in the evening. I go for walks the majority of days but don't really exercise otherwise because I'm too depressed to summon up the motivation. I am pessimistic about the likelihood of this conversation helping, but rejecting the possibility of new solutions just because all the ones I've tried don't work is irrational and I don't want to do it. I also really appreciate you guys trying to help.
