You know guys, I'm starting to think that we're going to have to start microing Hazou for any XP gain orders of magnitude above our usual rate. As is, coming up with a plan that is evidently an entire order of magnitude better than if the GMs looked at Hazou's character traits and made up their own plan based on Hazou's character (because that's the baseline) consistently while only focusing on the high-level stuff is really hard.

By microing in this case, I mean starting to make him do very specific actions, to try and mimic the grace that Noburi just gets as a result of higher diplomacy. With good planning and microing it's possible to briefly rise above our stats and make better choices than we would normally, leading to a higher XP gain. I think we have to do this from now on as a way to get higher XP gain.

Top priorities right now, however is to get everyone on the team up and ready. That last line in the chapter sounds more like Hazou's trying to convince himself that Kagome is just checking the perimeter, and not running away from the group.

In the theoretical situation that Kagome was about to kill himself and we had the choice to either make such a precommittment or try talking him out of it, I see the precommittment having a significantly higher (greater than 95%) chance of working. e: In this case, it would be doing a disservice to take the less-likely-to-succeed option when we have frequently had higher chances of dying in combat.

Now, if he talked to us about having suicidal thoughts, that would be something else altogether. This is specifically in the "Kagome is holding his rings to his head and giving us his goodbyes" situation.

Jesus fucking Christ can we please not talk about killing ourself as a fucking negotiation tactic. It really fucking disrespectful and offensive. Please stop

Ok, real talk though. What the fuck are we going to do with Kagome?

As in, Kagome is now seriously doubting his value on the team due to his being crazy (his words, not mine) and the difficulties the rest of the team has in restraining his explosive impulses. What do we do to alleviate his concerns?

You know, besides "beg the others for help because we suck at this", because that is gonna be a 2XP/week plan.

A large part of the problem here is that he feels trapped by his own mind into actions that he only realizes after the fact, when given the chance to think about them, are wholly destructive. That is why Mari's genjutsu worked on him (did she come up with that specifically for him, by the way???). So, it's a combination of PTSD and the world reinforcing that.

...Man, we really need DaystarEld for this :p

Give him a project that can't be solved with explosives

Joke: Hazou has foot-in-mouth syndrome.

Serious: I'm 100% cool with this but am worried about the details. Haven't thought of how to do this myself because I'm not good at that shit.

Would probably just be honest and ask him if he wants to kill him self. Then point out how he has so much more to live for than he did compared to all the years he lived in the woods.

We won't judge you for making poor suggestions if you'd like to try to get better at it.
I'm not good at this shit is code for I have no ideas period.

I think Kagome's problem is that he feels unworthy of the things he has now (i.e., friends he trusts).

So we ask him how he feels about Hazō after the kill box. How he felt with Kei running away to the summon realm.

Then I'd bring up how the team trust kagome to keep them safe from physical threats and that he needs to trust the team to help him with social stuff. That we all have things to contribute.

I'd suggest having kagome meet with the contacts so we can help him with his social skills

Okay, so I've got a few questions/idle speculation about the combat system.
(running off @HoratioVonBecker 's proposed combat system)
  1. How is dodging ninjutsu rolled? Technique Level vs. TacMov?
    1. Proposal: Seperate ninjutsu into different speeds, so that something like a Fast ninjutsu gets technique level times some arbitrarily high multiplier vs TacMov, while Slow ninjutsu gets a different, lower modifier.
      1. e.g Syrup Trap has a higher modifier than Hozuki's Mantle for opponent's dodge
      2. This allows for some interesting combinations of techniques and worldbuilding, but the more I think about it, the less I can remember if any techniques were noted to be faster (aside from the really obvious I-can-teleport-lol techniques)
      3. Implementing this system means that modifiers will change how much XP is put into a technique, so if the modifier is x4 for fast and x1 for slow, than users will likely have a number of techniques equal to the modifer.
    2. Proposal: Leave it as Technique Level vs. TacMov, but give the Technique level a preset modifier.
      1. Similar to 1.1.3, the number of techniques is rule of thumbed at the modifier given. (Meaning Hatake Kakashi has spent over a thousand XP on his techniques alone)
    3. Proposal: Leave it as Technique Level vs. TacMov, no change.
      1. Pretty much leaves every single ninjutsu user as a one trick pony, probably not what's desired out of your combat system.
  2. How is Genjutsu play into this? Does it give a set amount of malus die?
    1. Proposal: Have opponent roll Awareness vs. Technique level, with consequences varying upon level success vs defeat.
      1. e.g. Betrayal of the Tools removes 5 Weapons die on C-class victory, roll again next turn, 10 Weapons die on B-class victory, roll again at a 5 die penalty, 15 Weapons die on a A-class victory and lose weapon, five bonus awareness die next round.

We should probably think of an achievable sealing project that we can work together on, like we did with skywalkers. We should try to get one with high utility, but no immediate combat value (while everything can be weaponized, not all utility projects are as weaponizable as skywalkers were).

I want Kagome to see how his work can add value to the world, how he can contribute and is actively contributing to the uplift project. Right now, he is doubting his place in the team. We can certainly try to talk to him to reassure him of his value, but while describing his value has merit, demonstrating it has a whole extra kick.

I want the project to be a non-weapon as it may help kick him out of his rut where he only cares about seals that attack/defend (like in Snow when he didn't want to research the purifier.) I think Kagome is in a state, right now, where such an action is most likely to have a lasting, positive effect.

If people have similar thoughts, I have some ideas for utility seals/applications to investigate.

Impulse seals could be used to power mills.
