Possibility I did not see listed yet: Kagome is correct about the Sage's body-swapping habit, but when the Hiruzen-body died he did not infest Jiraiya, instead the Sage is now a member of (the leader of?) the Akatsuki.

Edit: "Akatsuki" here being a word which means "people in black and red cloaks who may be analogues to the canon Akatsuki, may be an unrelated group with a similar fashion sense, or may be people impersonating the Akatsuki analogues, who do exist, elsewhere in the world".

PSA: Turns out that there was a failure in my canon knowledge combined with not ever thinking to ask @Velorien to clarify. Jiraiya recognized Konan since he actually trained her. He might have recognized one or two of the others as well; as soon as @Velorien reappears in GM chat I'll confirm that. Answers will be added to the update and posted in thread.

I thought it was Kakashi with Henge'd Shadow Clones?

Why would Leaf send it's Chunin-level Jinchuriki (he just passed the Chunin Exams) on a mission which involves Kage-level ninjas?

Because, Naruto is a chunin with Kage-level power.

Anyway, short term wise, I hope nothing happens with Mist. Long term, Mist being leaderless and utterly rudderless is really bad. Mei isn't alive anymore because she got taken out by Jiraiya.

You already got one of the major ninja village who could oppose the Enemy of the World effectively neutered.

There's one thing that keeps bothering me.
The Inuzuka Clan is consistently spelled as Inuzaka.
Surely, we can't have passed over 2000 forum pages with no one else noticing, so it has to be an intended change and not a typo.
... Right?

You know, this would be the perfect opportunity for Jiraiya to kill us. Isolate Mari-sensei in Leaf, have us sent off to nowhere-space, and then quietly have us killed while we're down our strongest member.

Do you really think that he would care about Mari being there or not if he needed to kill us. A bloody shadow clone from him could kill the whole party, Mari and all. :p
 
@eaglejarl Just an FYI, but the only reason Jiraiya would recognize Konan would be if he trained her alongside her teammates...a no-name orange-haired brat named Yahiko, and Nagato. Of the Rinnegan.

There's no way in hell he'd let Nagato go off to do whatever in Rain Country.

You know what's kind of amusing? Yagura's plan never went accordingly.

Noodle? Defection.

Swamp village? 30% of taskforce, dead.

Liberator? That was Team Uplift's intel work.

Hot Spring? A trap inadvertently set by Team Uplift.

Ambush against Naruto? Everything went horribly wrong.

  • Ask Kagome if he recognizes these guys.
  • Get our objectives--TSP them.
  • Did we read any of the crypto books? RS44 is a very simple, very strong cipher; we need secure comms.
