Noone seems to be discussing the implications of the summoned bird.
Now, its possible that it wasn't a Condor, but if it was things get interesting.

What do people think the likelyhood of Yagura showing up personally to acquire the Capybara scroll? If it was a real possibility, than the whole scroll exchange thing was probably an attempt to capture Yagura.

I read it as an Animal Path rinnegan summon.

I have (finally) moved all TacMov rulings to the wiki. This is pertinent because:
  1. Akane has TacMov 15, while the rest of us have TacMov 21.
    1. This means Akane will slow us down.
    2. Akane won't be able to take full advantage of the +min{20, TacMov level} bonus to disengaging.
  2. The relationship between time traveled and levels in TacMov gained is still under discussion, unless I missed a QM post when I updated the rulings this morning.
I was considering leaving Akane behind, but that just further widens the xp gap. Therefore, I'd really like to know if (1) we can use "trains like a maniac every single day" to get levels in TacMov before we head out and (2) how quickly she can train to TacMov 20 while we're traveling, thereby receiving the full disengagement bonus.

We're doing a mission that goes better the faster we can move so it would be beneficial to know how much we can improve that over the course of the mission.

We don't have access to her updated character sheet. She's probably close to comparable

So Akane has been gaining xp and levels while we were gone, and her character sheet just doesn't reflect this.

I am literally the one keeping the QM rulings up to date. How did I not know this. Why am I confused.

THIS IS WHY WE NEED BETTER DOCUMENTATION PEOPLE.

Because it was never outright stated at all; it's just, her sheet hasn't been updated in 3 months and she still has that 200 XP, so...

So, just some thoughts...

1. Mist is boned. With the recent losses of several jonin, including at least three heavy hitters (Shikigami, Zabuza, and this Mei person), and their Kage who is also their jinchuuriki, their military power has been severely reduced. Mist may not even be aware just how tits up this last mission went yet. There's a good chance they would be considered a minor village now, even if they're on the higher end of that scale. They certainly couldn't become proactive in a war without having someone stronger supporting them. It might be that Leaf could force them into an alliance of convenience due to being mutually attacked, though they could just as easily decide to go with someone else.

2. Leaf is less boned. They've lost a number of ANBU, their Kage, and their jinchuuriki has been kidnapped. However, they've still got at least two S-Class ninjas in the form of Jiraiya and Tsunade (at least nominally), Kakashi wasn't specifically noted as dead I believe so he may still be alive, and most importantly they now have Skywalkers. Based purely on canon knowledge, Naruto may have some time as well - Akatsuki in canon had to extract the Nine-Tails last IIRC, so there's a good chance they'll extract the Three-Tails first at least, which will take days. So Naruto is possibly recoverable.

3. This may result in Leaf dropping the Capybara scroll mission. Unfortunate, but their priorities are clearly going to be on recovering Naruto first and foremost. We can only hope that with the Mizukage's death that if Mist was the intended buyer of the scroll that they won't be able to attend, or it'll be pushed back. That said, we might want to get Keiko to notify the Pangolins of the current situation - good news is we're Leaf now and the temporary Hokage is our clan leader (yay, prestige and support, further solidifies Toad alliance), bad news is that the Capybara mission is in the air.

HolygoodnessNarutoZabuzaAkatsukiYaguraItachiJiraiyaHokagewe'realldoomed.

Erm, random observations:
  • Naruto took on Zabuza 1v1. His teammates (who weren't there) are Genin.
    • Zabuza is very likely dead, so Naruto's probably as strong as Zabuza.
  • Kakashi's probably alive.
    • All of the dead Leaf-nin are ANBU or Hiruzen, and Leaf did win against Mist.
    • This assumes Kakashi was Naruto's Jounin-sensei, but the same lines of thought apply so long as Naruto's Jounin-sensei wasn't ANBU.
  • Hana might not have died there.
    • Jiraiya took the time to survey the battleground, and has not told us that Hana was among the dead.
    • There are reasons why Jiraiya might not have identified her, as well as why he might not have told us if he did, but we can hope.
Well, at least life in Leaf isn't going to be boring like we all feared, right?

Akatsuki may have punched Leaf in the gut with iron knuckles, but Leaf's punched Mist in the gut with spiked knuckles. Mist may not even know what happened here, given that basically everyone they had there died or was abducted. In any event, I expect Leaf's going to stir up coalition talks a la Whirlpool, Liberator, etc. Akatsuki is not protected by balance of power shenanigans, and literally everyone should be terrified of them. They have up to a dozen S Ranks working together on this, but that can't be more than the rest of the EN combined.

Suddenly our Skywalkers feel very, very small.

On the bright side, we're Leaf-nin and have Akane back! So long as we don't die in the ensuing conflict (and Akatsuki has no reason to target us), we can finally reunite the team without secrecy!

Please don't have Pein destroy Konoha, @eaglejarl. I like it there.

We need to get Hazou that Pangolin training jutsu. Akane's going to be racking up so much bonus XP, her Taijutsu is going to be insane.
Nah, we need an Intelligence-Training Jutsu. Maybe we can call it Hivemind Technique.

On that note: Akane, pre-TGR, had 229 (+4 conditioning) banked; the conditioning jutsu was buffed to provide 20% of earned XP as bonus XP. Hazou got 825 XP (though this will likely be different for Akane) from post-TGR changes. At 3 XP a day over the five months we haven't been with her, she would have earned approximately 450 XP. This amounts to a total approximate XP count of 1500 XP for her to use at the moment, and 179 conditioning XP, of which 62 has been used, leaving 117. ...oh, whoops, apparently OOC XP doesn't count? Clarify, @eaglejarl @OliWhail @Velorien, please?

Ugh, it's so annoying that the 825 doesn't get conditioning jutsu bonus. Pleeeeeease, QM-senpais? I'll mail you cookies!

e:

Alright, this is what she looks like at about now.

e2: She's rolling 51 dice versus Hazou's 44 with Roki (leveled appropriately to his deception).

Okay, time to analyze what we want.

Long Range Objectives
  1. Keep civilization intact
  2. Uplift the EN
  3. Protect Leaf
  4. Nullify Akatsuki
  5. Nullify any other nefarious schemers
Mid Range Objectives
  1. Deliver messages to Jiraiya's network fast.
  2. Build anti-S Class weapons
  3. Meet Hazou's mom, or give her a burial
  4. Decide whether Capybara mission is out of possibility range
  5. Integrate Minami into our team
Immediate Objectives
  1. Get an idea of Minami's capabilities.
  2. Learn the function of as many seals as we can. Priority is on quantity, not power.
  3. Obtain enough paper and ink to supply both us and Kagome for a long range mission.
  4. Read codes and obtain a way to make sure you have updated codes when our current set goes out of date so that we don't repeat Hot Springs.
Anything else?

Hmm. Perhaps we should try getting books on technique hacking, so that we could start learning it on the move?
Not something that's safe to learn on your own; it's like sealing, only less likely to create wormholes to alternate dimensions and more likely to burn your throat or slice off an arm, or bury you under several tons of rock.

Surely it has a theoretical part, where we only read and memorize, instead of actively doing anything with chakra? It's not like we were infusing seals during our first Sealing lesson with Kagome, after all.

But I will insist on getting 10 levels in it at the earliest convenient opportunity because IT SYNERGISES WITH SEALING AND WHY IS NO ONE ELSE AHHKJVHFJSBBUHJU-

*cough*

Same with MedKnow.

Er, wait. What's the point of all the defenses if you can just knock down a wall and get in? *boggles* I guess it really is just like a security blanket for him. A security blanket made of explosions and death.
Since Hazō saw the defenses you would know this:

Much of the defenses were Force Walls. From the outside these are effectively impenetrable, at least quickly. From the inside Kagome can target the seals and knock the Wall down instantly.

what has come to be known in GM chat as "The Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny.
I see you weren't joking about that
Nope. Gotta mix some truth in with the trolling or you become predictable. :>

I will note that @eaglejarl does not lie in this thread. My model of him would believe that lying as a GM is somewhere between being a poor sport and actively detrimental to the notion of a rational quest.
Bingo. Anything I say out of character is true to the best of my knowledge at the time. (Although FSM knows I've been wrong before.) Lying out of character is cheating.

That said, the asshole is more than willing to say very misleading things that are technically true.

You have to treat every post of his in this thread (outside of story posts) as a dickish literal genie. Only the direct statements he's making count.

None of the things he implies or indirectly hints at are sure to be true, in fact, given that he's a huge troll, there's a negative penalty to the probability of any statement that's strongly implied but not directly spelled out.

Problem is, he knows that we know this, so he's going to mix in some truths to fuck with us. I still think there should be slight negative penalty simply because I expect there to be a reasonable proportion of times where he just can't help himself and will troll. Even if the game-theoretically sound strategy is to flip a coin to decide whether he's going to troll or not on any given thing he wants to imply.
You know me so well. :>

Would the firebomb produce hot enough flames to turn sand to glass?
No, I'm pretty sure not. One of our physicists can correct me if I'm wrong, but all you're doing is burning a piece of firewood very quickly. Wood doesn't burn hot enough to melt sand.

White hot iron (flash grenade)
Note that the macerators are not able to chew up anything harder than softwoods like pine. Even oak is too much for them right now.

very curious if you'd be willing to share what would have happened had the dice fallen differently and Jiraiya didn't make it through the mission either, or Sarutobi had lived while Jiraiya died, or Yagura managed to escape?
It would have been a very different story going forward. Sarutobi had little motivation to induct you into Leaf and no incentive to adopt you as a clan. Your future with Leaf would have been pretty much shut down, meaning no more missions or rewards from Jiraiya and no real chance to see Akane or any of the canon characters again.

It seems like all of the Mist jonin were killed, but maybe we could ask Jiraiya for confirmation? Also how many of the chunin accompanying Akatsuki were killed? Did Jiraiya store any of the enemy bodies? Were any of the Mist jonin obviously from the Mori, Wakahisa, or Kurosawa clan?
don't think any Leaf nin used skywalkers
You can ask.

Are we supposed to go back and forth from Fire to other countries.
No. You're expected to do a long loop around the EN and then return to Fire.

Why couldn't he have someone else do it? We're total newbies to this spy network thingies, and we only did undercover work under Mari-sensei, and all our missions went pear shaped.
Seems a little odd to send us on spy information retrieval, but I'm willing to not look too closely because it lets us go do things
"The chapter" said:
He pulled a sheaf of papers out from the stack on the desk. "That's where you lot come in," he said, holding the papers out to Minami. "Hazō, Noburi, Keiko, Kagome—I need you out of the city for a couple weeks so the Council can't use you against me. Out of sight, out of mind sort of thing. I also trust you, which is more than I can say for a lot of people in that room back there.
I care more about speed than secrecy right now.
I need these messages delivered to agents in my network, and I need it done as fast as humanly possible.
Noburi's bloodline allows him to transfer chakra by way of the water in his barrel. Make use of that to increase the team's endurance [Ed: and therefore average speed].

Unless, our chunin commander was lying about not being able to leave Fire country.
When did she say that? She hasn't been sent on any missions outside of Fire, but that's not the same as not being allowed out of Fire. Regardless, Jiraiya is Hokage now and he's telling her to go.

Inuzaka Clan Head is Tsume, not Manaka.
Could you provide a citation on that? Her wiki page lists her as as a special jōnin but says nothing about being head of the clan. We've actually spent a fair amount of time digging around trying to find the clan head's name and I finally gave up and made up an OC. If you can provide a link I'm happy to change it.

This is correct. The storage seal is triggered by Lesser Barrier Formation; if we can get a multi-storing storage seal that releases stored objects one by one we can make a machine gun out of it too.
How exactly does this work? LBF needs to be physically attached to the seal it's going to activate. If you move either of the two seals that make up the LBF then it will fail. If you move the seal that is attached to the LBF then it might still work if it's still properly in contact or it might not.
