So, we're relying on Naruto's tacit support in this endeavor. We need him to downplay and redirect Leaf away from us to the extent that he reasonably can while keeping the cover story. If he's against us, too, we'll have problems like Sannin on our heels. Leaf is not as well-placed to be a problem as Akatsuki, but it's not nothing.

So here's the problem. We don't get to keep tacit support just because we sprint out the door before he tells us not to. There are a variety of reasons he could change his mind and go "Actually, Tsunade, go get him", and one of those is taking what he just realized is a incredibly useful Leaf asset with us. He is already very on the fence about this, and FOOM could well be the thing that settles his mind.

And leaving will not stop that realization; Naruto is the foremost living expert on Shadow Clones. He is 100% in the perfect position to decipher FOOM, as Mari has pointed out, and I suspect he may have figured it out the moment he ordered Noburi to start filling people for training. Running out the door will not deny him any relevant information.

Unfortunately (for him), there's really no way to stop us once we're out the door. Skywalkers mean there's no way to track us (we ran into that problem with the Dogs, which are better trackers than Inuzuka, who are the best trackers Leaf has), so... like, tough shit for Naruto, but he can either tacitly support us and follow through on what he said, or kill us, but either way he's not getting Noburi back before we dip and return.
 
Fair. Although I will say, I'm reasonably sure that Naruto is going to be aware of every notable mission that passes through the Tower's books, so if we just go "Hey Team Uplift, scroll hunt time! Lets go right now", he is going to know before we walk out the door.


I find it unlikely that we can sneak this past him unless we go loud-missing, aka run the fuck away with no cover story.

If we have to do that, we have to do that. Sucks for everyone that knows us but it's mostly for them that we'd go quiet-missing.

MDK. It's possible that Naruto has given the orders because he's already figured it out. If not, then at best Mari would estimate two weeks of training--one to start noticing the effects, and a second to eliminate the possibility of coincidence.

Noburi shudders as he describes a sort of off-white fleshy beetle, maybe the size of a large dog, that reacted far too little to its very life force being drained away. He lacks the expertise to know whether it was a Fire Country (or foreign) chakra beast, a chakra beast Orochimaru modified to hell and back, or some kind of completely new lifeform (because Orochimaru isn't scary enough without the divine power to create life). He adds the side note that, while Orochimaru obviously doesn't have the Vampiric Dew, it's disturbing to consider why he has living chakra stores so easily on hand.
