Alright, here's a full critique of your plan, Oneiros, with suggested alternative phrasings:
- We are rapidly approaching a potential showdown Akatsuki over the rift and we need to start prepping for it
- Mari you're our primary heavy hitter how do you feel you stack up to them
- What seals would help your combat style?
I think "potential showdown with Akatsuki" conveys the wrong impression about the nature of our possible expected conflicts. We might need to assassinate an Akatsuki member like Sasori, and we might need to hold a siege position against Akatsuki while we explore the rift. Neither of those are a certainty, but I agree with you that turning our eye towards what power we need to gather in case of such an eventuality is a good idea.
But a "showdown with Akatsuki" sounds like we intend to BotG 2 them, which we absolutely do not have the firepower to accomplish, and people IC will be quick to point this out to us even if that's not what Hazou is trying to talk about. I would suggest the following revision, for clarity of intent:
- When necromancy comes to a head we may need to fight one or more of the Akatsuki, which means we need as much power as possible.
- Mari, you're by far our strongest. What matchups do you think you could win?
- What seals would help your combat style?
Some part of me hesitates to implicitly offer Mari high-level sealing projects when we're already so strapped for time, but it's better to know now and re-evaluate as we get closer to necromancy and start to know for sure what trials we'll have to overcome to achieve it, so I don't have a problem with it.
- Noburi you're our secondary heavy hitter
- We want you to go all in on developing new summoning contracts. Spend all the money you need to secure new contracts
- Do everything you can to get the sages and Gamabunta to see you favorably.
- Maybe play up avenging Jiraiya
- If their are any techniques you think you can get let us know
I see your angle here: you want Noburi to quickly reach S-Rank power through Summoning, even if it's for a single battle. It's a good idea, since Noburi has so much chakra that summoning Gamabunta isn't out of the question if he can secure the contract. I think this can be more focused and precise, though. His ordinary summon contracts won't be relevant to the Akatsuki fight, only the S-Rank ones, and I don't think we should just leave this as an imperative for him to "do everything you can". Here is my suggested revision:
- Noburi, you have the chakra to summon S-Rank Toads; all that stands in your way is the lack of a contract.
- If you needed a one-time contract with Gamabunta within the next few months, what would you need from us?
- If we explain our plans, the Toads may be sympathetic to the idea of resurrecting Jiraiya.
- Alternatively, Toad jutsu could give Mari an extra edge.
- If all else fails, we want to help you secure more summons in general.
I'm not
certain the Toads know we're aiming for necromancy, but we had Jiraiya's original contact with us
during the Seance, and I honestly don't believe Ma and Pa wouldn't poke their noses into something like that. More importantly, this puts the ball in Noburi's court, offering our support in a way that encourages him to "solve the puzzle" instead of ordering him to complete what may sound like an impossible task.
This isn't wordcount-optimized, sorry. I just want to focus on hitting the right notes first before we worry about conveying the intent efficiently.
- We're going to be heading out again to get the Squirrel Scroll and more of that weird crystal soon
- Noburi, Kei and Snowflake you need to go on some combat missions to make sure your ready for the trip
- Hazou isn't sure on team composition because he might be stuck doing seal research but he wants everyone to be ready.
We've talked about this before, and I see that your main motive here is to get Kei and Noburi unstagnated in combat, but I still feel like this isn't the best way to achieve our goals here:
- We backed out of the Squirrel Scroll hunt IIRC because we started feeling like our current strategy wasn't up to the task. To my understanding, we don't have a new strategy. If anything, we'll probably need to keep Hazou at home and that means we won't have Canvass helping us track down ninja encampments. I don't disagree in principle with resuming the Squirrel Scroll hunt, but I think we're facing an impenetrable contradiction in our current situation.
- The Honey cave crystal is, well, I do think that we could source more crystal relatively handily. With adequate caution and a good plan we shouldn't have to fight the vine golems again and can extract as much as the entire crystal from the cave if results favour us. But that isn't what we need. More crystal is good, until it too runs out, and I highly doubt that what we gain there would last us until ES 60. The main value in my mind for revisiting the Honey cave is in the hopes that it gives us clues for how to secure a renewable supply of the crystal, which needs a more hands-on touch from Hazou, which runs into the same contradiction as the Squirrel Scroll hunt.
I could see myself supporting this expedition in the not-distant future, but it would require that our at-home options for crystal synthesis fail us first. And then once we're planning a trip to the Eastern Continent, it's not too much of a stretch to try and resume the Squirrel Scroll hunt if we have some ideas for how to better proceed. But until and unless that happens, this isn't the best way to get Kei and Noburi unstagnated.
(Also I don't really like starting the conversation with "we are going to do this" when the whole point of meetings like this is that we're soliciting advice from our trusted advisors. Better to start with our motives and build out from there.)
I would suggest replacing that section with the following:
- We're going to need everyone in top form, and with our busy jobs in Leaf it can be easy for our battle instincts to dull.
- We should go rid the world of some deadly horror sometime soon. Any suggestions?
Here I implicitly include Hazou in the group because if this is a short trip then I would say we can spare the time we'd need to clear our next combat stagnancy unlock. It's not hurting us
yet, but we still gain from going out as a trio. Plus, this open-ended solicitation of vile chakra beasts is basically begging the QMs to come up with some cool plot hook for us to dig into.
- Ino
- Initial Proposal (sanity checked by Mari)
- Supply...
- Genin-use only
- Come to an agreement about a monthly reasonable allotment of Goo Bombs, given our time constraints.
- Goketsu Hazou will provide a backstock on the Goketsu Estate so that, should he be unavailable, the Yamanaka Clan aren't inconvenienced.
- Duration
- Payment
- Her help inn future Scroll hunts, with the caveat Goketsu retains ownership of the Scroll
- Or whatever Mari thinks would be most beneficial to her personally
At a glance, no complaints here. There's a typo of "inn" but I like that the deal is concise and flexible, and Ino's support may be just what we need to make the Squirrel Scroll hunt viable.
- Sealing
- Protocol: Hazou-pilot's best judgement
- Shadow Clone: Finish Minato Seal 7, then Minato Seal 8
- Prime: Rocket Boots
- Use SC to prep Sarubetsu/Isan seals and check difficulty
This, also, looks good to me.
Overall right now I still very much want to do the crystal science, but if you incorporate my suggestions I would certainly find your plan a lot more tempting.
