Can we also ask for close-quarters Lightning jutsu (useful for Haru, who will not be FOOMing anytime soon) and anything related to earthshaping (hey, we're specializing)?

Rephrasing 'what was useful to previous Summoners' to 'what was useful to previous Summoners by giving them advantages unique to the Dog clan' might be an idea. They probably have lots of jutsu that Kakashi was able to use very well due to his mastery of multiple natures/Sharingan, and all of the previous summoners were probably big badasses, but we're kinda...not.

[X] Action Plan: The Hands that Follow the Sage's (and sundry!)
Not enthusiastic about the Lightning jutsu -- on the one hand, it helps Haru get stronger and may well exist as the previous summoner was Kakashi. On the other hand, it's very... mundane compared to the other things we're asking about. 2 esoteric effects (spacetime, nature), 1 Uplift, 1 FOOM, and a catch-all "Whatever you think is best" that may well include Kakashi's best Lightning jutsu. CQC Lightning techniques benefit Yuno as well, I suppose... We ought to get access to her character sheet.

We asked Cannai about earthshaping techniques in a previous update, no? I believe I passed a plan that included that. If not, that's an important one.

I expect Hazou or Cannai to filter on "usefulness to Hazou/clan" by default.

Based on the scene where we arranged the deal for the bison, I highly doubt Cannai wants to charge us for the thousand bison. Still, if you want to check I don't see the harm. The only thing I would change is asking about making this a regular thing (which we would definitely need to compensate them for) so we can take Asuma up on his offer (after negotiating better prices).
Polite to check up to see if we can pay retroactively. How does "Can we arrange a regular trade of this sort? We can help with hunting." sound?

@Paperclipped add having Hazo or Noburi teach kagome summoning and you'll havre my vote
@eaglejarl @Velorien Can Hazou and Noburi, as they are right now, teach Kagome Summoning?

Should probably also ask what jutsu the dogs would like in exchange. It doesn't really change anything since I'm sure Cannai would tell us, it just seems more courteous
Sure. I think this won't be much good, since Cannai just promised to connect us with the Dogs that had individual jutsu and we'll likely need to trade with them one-by-one, but may as well try, right?

Word count: 237

Kagome's Birthday
  • Make sure there are enough explosives. Use fireworks, if possible.
  • Present the chocolate statue we had commissioned.
Create your best replica of the Great Seal:
  • Focus as long as possible without losing fidelity to tiredness -- get chakra refills to do so.
    • (mechanically, time ladder steps)
  • If it seems easier, make individual components, then merge them.
    • Or make components one at a time, to make it easier to trash those that came out wrong.
  • Consult with artisan stonecarvers or others who might have valuable input.
    • (mechanically, get tags)
  • Get painkillers or drugs that will improve mental acuity temporarily.
    • (mechanically, reduce or ignore Consequence penalties)
  • Present to the collected sealmasters of Leaf once finished.
    • Answer any questions as needed, using the IN replica.
Cannai:
  • Thanks to the bison meat you provided, starvation in Leaf has been temporarily stayed. How can we repay you?
    • Can we arrange regular trade?
    • We can help with hunting.
  • How did the Conclave go?
    • Relay Ami's idea for ensuring safe passage.
    • Important territories for travel: Leopard or Hyena, and Cat.
  • Here are jutsu we'd be interested in learning:
    • Spacetime
    • Uplift: constructing walls and roads, cleaning water, preserving food
    • Enhancing mental fortitude
    • Related to "nature chakra"
      • Hazou knows: Innate to summons, dangerous to drain, but empowers chakra beasts
    • Those that were most useful to previous summoners.
    • What jutsu would the dogs like in exchange?
      • Should trades be case-by-case?
  • Any response on the Bear Scroll?

This is really not very concise, but it's still well under word count. I hope this will be an enjoyable plan: iirc ej likes writing both Kagome and Cannai, and hopefully either the "stoneshaping" or the "assembled sealmasters" side of the Great Seal scene will be fun for him.

Important territories for travel: Leopard or Hyena, and Cat.

Leopard and Hyena more or less belong to the Holy Pangolin Empire:

Toads, Otters, Pangolins: Allied against the Condors. Pangolins have now conquered the Condors (and also much of the Hyenas and Leopards), so things might destabilize.

So that's probably not so important.

Besides, the Leopard, Hyena, Mara and Rat boss might even be involved in the conclave meeting, this whole thing conseres all of them in the long run.

Also @Paperclipped, could you add something about stopping the Condor scout?

"Good plan. Saving the best for last: The condor scout has reached Arachnid, seen the evidence of the Dragons, and reported back to the Condor Summoner who passed the word back east. The condor in question is now resting up before flying home and the Clan Bosses are having their conclave. I'm not invited, but remind me to check back in a couple days to see what came of it."

Ruri is a jonin and can maybe help out.

Besides that Hidan is MIA/possibly dead after we aimed him like a suicide bomb at Rock?

Asuma will execute Hazou if we do this without advance permission. That's a good reason.

He might not even mind that we did it that much, but if it becomes known that we did this without his say-so he will have to kill Hazou to preserve his authority, and tbh he's right. It's massively overstepping, especially since Asuma is kinda good at his job, unlike Hyuuga

Hidan is fine. He's spent decades being literally unkillable.

Well, yes, that's why I mentioned Asuma in this first place. Obviously we'd get his sign-off on it first if for nothing more than "hey look, we're learning to run our crazy ideas in front of appropriate authorities before implementing them!" points. I think he could be sold on the notion, though. It costs Leaf absolutely nothing it hasn't already agreed to, and might save the omniverse from being eaten by predatory monstrosities from beyond time and space.

We could maybe spend a Fate Point to Declare that we've talked this over with Asuma beforehand, because 'what to do when and if Hidan comes calling again' is a perfectly reasonable sort of thing for Asuma and Hazou to have hashed out by now. If it goes through either we retroactively have Asuma's permission to send Hidan after the dragons, or he forbid us from doing that and so we won't, and either way we aren't treasoning.

We did talk about this last time and he said to send him after Rock's tailed beast.

I struggle to think of a summon that would suit [Ami] better, though I'd be curious to hear others' ideas.
Octopus. Or Kraken, I suppose.
  • Incredibly clever, but highly alien. Secretly geniuses of improvisation.
  • Flexible and free-spirited, known for escape attempts and for exploiting artificial systems they have no business understanding to orchestrate said attempts.
  • Unusual distributed neural network structure, with a central brain and eight larger neural clusters in appendages, perhaps suggesting a similar fractured experience of the self.
  • Excellent actors capable of impersonating a large number of other animals.
  • Tentacles and their association with Lovecraftian horror.
  • Tentacles and their association with having a long reach/influence over many things/propensity to meddle.
  • Tentacles and their association with the I&S specialization.
  • Come on, cats are really too obvious for her. Everyone would expect her to be the Cat Summoner, that wouldn't do at all.
(The octocat plushie was really the perfect gift for her.)

The reason no summons ever dare challenge the Kraken Clan is not because the kraken live deep underwater--that much can be overcome with ninjutsu and the cooperation of other marine species. No, it is the fact that the deep beneath the waves lies the Ami Reverse-Summoner, whose awakening could spell the end of the world. They are the reason summon legend preserves a warning that translates to Elemental Nationese as "In her house with the Kraken Clan, bored Ami waits dreaming".

You make them sound like corvids. I have seen those bastards arrange distractions just so others could sneak in and chew on the break cables of specifically the people who have pissed them off. Raised in an environment where gulls were bold enough to take a child's finger off while sweeping in to steal a piece of bread generations of parents taught their children "do not mess with the corvids" in much the same way that other parents would say "snakes are not for petting." If you want excitement in your life go murder a mafia don's daughter because they are not known for being nearly as intelligent or prone to holding grudges. The sociopaths do understand the principle of mutual defense well enough to respond to any provocation with "oh cute, a silly little mammal wants to play by prison rules. Game on."

This has been S1.02 Lail-Talks-Anamalia brought to you by the fervent encouragement generated by the arachnid episode. We are in the process of finalizing the next one and its working title is "how to wield your own compound fracture as an improvised edged weapon against a hungry polar bear because that is safer than pissing off the goddamned corvids.

I hate to say it, but considering that the entire universe is on the line and it's where he happens to keep his stuff it might be time to read uncle 'I put the 'gross' in 'gross misconduct'' into the situation. He's bound to learn about it from the summon conclave anyway.

He was invited to the other Sealmaster meetings and presumably is invited to this next one too, it just apparently isn't worth his time yet, despite the whole "the universe is where I put my stuff" thing. If it really gets desperate, we may need to buy an hour or something just to pitch the crisis. Could pull a LotroL and offer a vial of blood maybe? Or if that's not good enough there's IV's idea of a voluntary vivisection, conditional on Hazou surviving and Tsunade being present... Having Hazou actively describe what he feels would probably be pretty helpful for studying the bloodline after all

Just ask Tsunade. Even she can't get too cranky about the only person he probably can't kill with a glance being asked to take front on this issue. If it helps the medicine go down, meet her with a basket full of eager puppies wearing stethoscopes and mention that there is an entire species yearning to learn how to be physicians from her first. She has to have some remaining strings to pull with him.

Hazou willingly tying himself to the vivisection table has to be the greatest idea I have ever heard. There is absolutely no better way to establish our characterization as a clueless moron.

But seriously, w h a t

Oro has no reputation for following rules regarding human experimentation. In fact, the opposite is true considering his first stint as a missing-nin. He has no incentive to actually follow through and study the Great Seal. I suspect likeliest outcome is that he would thank us for being stupider than a non-chakra sheep, kill Hazou on a whim, face no consequences for doing so, and then continue his original research undisturbed.
