Fixed, thanks. (Although, as always, the amazashing
@Squiddlebuddy beat you to it. :> )
Combat in MfD is always randomized.
And no, I'm not happy about the results either. I loved writing Jiraiya; he was probably my second favorite character after Kagome, and having him die is almost physically painful for me. I'm also bummed that Orochimaru died, although we never actually got to interact with him. My preferred outcome was:
Jiraiya lives
Orochimaru lives
Hiashi lives
Literally everyone else dies, including Ren, the other 3 Kage, and Tsunade.
As actually happened, Pain resurrects Akatsuki and the jinchūriki are sent home. (NB: Gaara, Yagura, and the 2-Tails all died before the attack force got there.)
This would have meant:
- The jōnin and senior chūnin population of Mist, Sand, and Leaf are almost completely depleted and all of their S-rankers gone aside from J, O, and Naruto.
- The jōnin/chūnin/S-rank population of Rock and Cloud are NOT depleted, but they don't know about the battle yet.
- Everyone except Leaf has lost their Kage and is scrambling for new leadership
- Leaf still has Hokage Jiraiya, but his trial period is over, Hiashi is gunning for him, and Shikaku isn't there to back him up.
- Most or all of the Noble Clans have lost their Heads, so they have inexperienced replacements, making them easy targets for Hiashi's manipulations.
- Jiraiya needs the S-rank firepower, so he wants to bring Orochimaru in. Doing so will make him vulnerable to Hiashi.
- Tsunade is dead, so the Senju vote on the council is gone, making the Gōketsu situation that much more precarious and requiring horse trading about who gets the Slug scroll.
We came so close. :<
