@faflec can I persuade you to replace one or both of the trade deal scenes with a section where we get Canvass some herbs and spices to compare with what she smelled earlier of Akane's attackers?

(And, just to be transparent about my position here: I want to wrap up loose ends as soon as possible and do a timeskip of a month or three so that Hazō can be less squishy and do more seal research and so on and we can do something FUN. I think negotiating business deals as banal as this is boring and would rather it be offscreened or abstracted away or take place during a timeskip so we can read about something else. And if I'm not mistaken EJ would also rather write something else.)

When it comes to the clan heads, my first thought is that Shino will most likely feel intrigued by the possibilities, and so we should lean into that and discuss if there's anything these new lenses allow that the old ones might not. But in contrast, Hinata will feel threatened to an extent because Hazou's invention poses to undercut a Hyuuga source of revenue.

I think this might be an opportunity to help Hinata get a win against her clan elders, if we play it right. We're going to make bank from the gemstones either way, but if we can organize their sale in a way that benefits the Hyuuga then Hinata can spin it as a win that she personally seized when the opportunity arose.

Or rather, more tangibly, when we meet with Hinata we can dust off the old CCnJ and explain our perspective and intentions (she's a good person and we'd like to see her prosper as Lady Hyuuga) and then actively collaborate with her on what deal gives Hinata the best advantage in her power struggle. CCnJ is as always a bit of a clunky tool, but in this scenario where we're attempting to convey sincerity to someone who probably doesn't trust us enough to take our words at face value it sounds like the right tool for the job.

I'm willing to add it in as an off-screened "oh also this happened" thing, since I don't think it needs screentime; is that OK?
 
While I think it's a fine/safe plan I don't personally like the marked for economics lean of faflec's plan (though given that mine's only a meeting I can't say I'm better :V) and people seem hesitant to support the other one for various Reasons. Also it feels like I've been asking to include Hidan in plans for like 5 cycles now (in fairness it did happen in one but Shikamaru is a naysayer...) so I feel like it just isn't going to happen if I don't put it in myself, so here's another plan in case you feel similarly.

      • Hazou claimed clan secrecy on decoding to protect Goketsu interests and ensure compensation for work, but it's shortsighted if Hazou/Kagome died.

        • Hazou is reasonably confident Kagome, Orochimaru, and himself are the only ones who can finish them anyways.
      • Hazou would prefer secrecy to avoid empowering Orochimaru unless absolutely necessary. Wouldn't want him giving himself a Bijuu or something.
      • Minato was renowned for combining Hacking and Sealing. Should that be necessary, would Asuma tutor Hazou in Hacking?
    • Specjonin
      • In that vein, Hazou feels competent enough to request evaluation for Sealing specjonin. What can Asuma tell him about the process?
    • R&D Missions
      • Suggestion: R&D missions. Hire research as a mission via tower (taxed), with innovation becoming non-secret property of client (client is owed royalties for known use by third-parties).
    • Akane investigation
      • Hazou wants Asuma to consider involving Hidan in searching for Akane.
        • Frankly, Hidan terrifies Hazou, in part because Hidan said since he has Hazou's blood, he can find Hazou anywhere. However...
          • That ability could find Akane's body.
          • He seems favorably inclined towards Hazou.
          • Akatsuki has vested interest enforcing AMITY.
        • As scary as he is, it seems pragmatic. We don't know other village's intelligence gathering capabilities. If there's a 1% chance they can discover EM we should act.
  • Gaku: Get Canvass herbs/spices, compare with Akane's attackers' smell.
  • Sealing
    • Devote a SSA clone to sealing. Research Minato seals/directional explosives.
    • Eschew prep, use SSA, reroll -9/-12 on Callig rolls

In case you don't want to give over the answer key here's the same plan with that part cut. I think handing over the secret to decoding doesn't really hurt us and will make it easier to argue getting SC for Yuno and Noburi, but that's just my opinion.

Personally I'm fine with him knowing now. I don't think we really lose any advantages, personally. I'm open to being convinced though, do you think we greatly benefit from it? I honestly don't think many other sealmasters are going to be able to get more than 6 or 7 seals in, much less finish the thing.

EDIT: tfw Asuma gets Hazou killed so he can look at the Minato notes

E: can you also be explicit with the Ino section that the intention on the part of the players is to use that section to get Hazo to realize that his feelings towards the Hagoromo are stupid and counterproductive and that he needs to work on that? It was my intention when I wrote that section.

How do you feel about folding the modified CHAOS Suits into the Hinata trade deal?

A small number of CHAOS Suits (say... 3 or 4), with a pocket over every Tsk... Teku... Chakra Point, freely suppied with Macerators/Public Seals for the first order, and then resupplied at a discounted rate for [reasonable duration] thereafter?

We've been kicking the idea around, and there's generally a lot of support for it in the hivemind. And it would be gated behind the primary SAN Check under the first bullet.

For the record Macerators are a public seal now, but yes I think I could try writing something in, unless anyone else takes issue with it.

Will need a few hours, but I'll figure something out.
