[X] Let eaglejarl write what he wants.
Wild guessing as to what this will actually constitute:
EJ doesn't like writing Ami so I don't really see him continuing this meeting. (I also think that trying to one-up Ami
in front of the clans is a bad idea and that Hazo knows it. We should do that on our own time and let her know we didn't want to upstage her. She'll love that.) I think that we can look forward to Hazo showing Asuma the Dragonbits and maybe Cannai. I don't know who Hazo would punch right now, but...someone?
Question: does Goketsu have any genin (not formally, but estate ninja) who will qualify for the upcoming exams? That would be fun to read. Do we know any genin (Haru? Sakura?) who are likely to go?
I mean, it has not been a secret just how much the QM favoured Ami as a character at this point.
One of them even openly talk about that often, hence why it shouldnt be a suprise that Ami will continue to be an OP character. Even plans like marrying Ami or to that have effect has been regarded as a favourite by the QM
If you want to go through everything Ami's done in the story, you can probably find a few 'rule of cool' moments, but this isn't even vaguely one of them.
Ami controls Mist - fact. She came about this relatively honestly, having manipulated an unhappy populace to turn against a compromise Mizukage while taking advantage of a massive power vacuum after having swayed an extremely powerful, socially-isolated, figure to her side.
(If anyone thinks that Ami taking control of Mist is weird then our perceptions of in-universe reality differ so greatly as to be irreconcilable.)
She then convinced a figure who is already favourably-inclined towards her to support a cause that solves a great deal of their problems and advances their stated and actual long-term goals significantly.
The only thing here that's even
mildly a pull is that Ren was able to find and convince Kisame, but even that doesn't really strain my suspension of disbelief. Ren was able to approach Kisame with an offer of one of the few things that Kisame actually wants and can't get for himself: peace. And that was
Ren doing it, not Ami. Ren is a social-spec jonin in her own right. If she was properly-equipped, I'm not surprised that she could run down Kisame, and I'm further unsurprised that she managed to convince him that this was a good idea. Would I have been tremendously surprised if she couldn't find him? Not really. Would I have been shocked had she been unable to convince Kisame that the Akatsuki should join AMITY? Perhaps a little surprised, given that it's a good idea and that it addresses the key issue the Akatsuki had with being used as enforcers: they're being
asked to do this job, not imposing themselves.
Also keep in mind that Ami didn't do this on her own. The rest of Clan Mori - at least, the real movers and shakers - were definitely behind her, which is something I think the Hive really neglects when they assess how powerful she is. Ami does not, for all her posturing, act alone. She has an incredible amount of support (read: the Angel without Mercy and anyone who he can influence) and her
entire deal is that she specializes in taking advantage of chaotic situations. She's done just that, and it was fairly predictable that she would do so. Kisame is in the wind, he's very powerful, and - assuming some carryover from canon, which doesn't seem totally unreasonable given that the QMs have
generally not diverged when the story was a) cool and b) not stupid - his major issue with Mist was Yagura and probably the whole 1984 vibe, neither of which are really a thing anymore. Ami wants to make Mist more powerful. The only real surprise here is that she recruited him for
everyone and not just Mist, but given the strong Mist-Leaf ties it makes sense.
(Also, hats off,
@Velorien, I have audibly chuckled every time I've read this chapter - fourth go 'round as of a few minutes ago.)
