Marked for Economics what? The sooner our status is "not broke", the better, and WE are broke. If it bothers you so much, we can just offscreen it.

Now, diplomacy. That's important stuff, but I am afraid Hazo is simply just inept at this. That's why we have Mari, who can do the diplomacy thing for us. What it looks like, jutsu, genin squad exchange, etc, whatever, is another matter.
What do we have that the Kurosawa want anyway? Jutsu from the Leaf Library aren't ours to trade away. I'm not convinced that we have a good offer to make

Problem: You have no idea how it works, if it's a seal or a jutsu, if it requires nature chakra, etc.
We know Jiraiya was incredibly busy the entirety of the time he knew Kagome, though, which sort of implies it would be something of his field of specialty.

That or a renamed technique, but that seems kind of gauche.

If we want to go for the "tie Mist and Leaf together", then all we need to do is be extremely honest with Asuma. Explain why, when and how. He will understand how useful the "Trade with Mist so they have difficulties stabbing us in the back" plan is. But the real problem is that it's a medium-long term project and the Rock-Leaf war is now.

Which is why the diplomacy effort should be trying to bring Mist on board so we don't lose the war

I feel you're overstimating the harm of not following the project, "Don't lose the war" is a loaded term that implies it's this way or death. This said, my opinion is that we're not going to convince Mist to join a war without a clear winner(Losing ninjas for an enemy village, risking Rock retaliation, starting Ninja war, losing standing in the village, giving Leaf an unstoppable army, ect) or without heavy concessions to them, something that Asuma would(Understandably) not be willing to do as the current situation is far from hopeless.
In fact, Mist could be willing to Assassinate Noburi to stop Leaf from having the Summoner Army, incomplete as it is.

The actual implication that I am trying to make is that as things stand Leaf is very likely to lose the war. And that thread time and attention should be spent on that.

Yeah these are obviously points that would have to be worked out. Luckily we have lots of advantages. With Ami we have a large amount of influence on we can exert. We also know that Ren personally cares about Hazō and have Hanna in a position of power.

In addition we are asking Mist to take no actual risk to their ninja. We don't want to deploy them to the field at all. Also we don't get an unstoppable army without their help.

Also I want to try to make clear how fucked we are. Rock has proven that they are capable of pulling of OPS in Koniha itself. They only lost one essie on Nagi island. So they probably have at least parity with us there. They probably have double our number of jounin. With current strategy we can't threaten their major city. With Asuma keeping our essies in Leaf they can slowly grind us down in the field. Can hit village after village with more firepower than we can defeat. Slowly sapping us of our strength until we are forces into a position where we have to gamble on taking the offensive and walk into ambush

Rock is confident enough they can defeat Leaf that they were willing to start a war.
Leaf is confident enough they can defeat Rock that they haven't just rolled over and let Rock take their land.
This suggests information asymmetry (as shika stated leaf info on rock is abysmal) and/or Rock being desperate (shika mentioned there is possibility their ninja are starving).

So, talking about something completely different. Regarding the LGBT+ ninja, we could adopt some of the ones we invited to the party to signal that while we are not going to disobey the Hokage, we didn't forget about them. They would probably be more loyal than a normal ninja, and loyalty is the the second important asset we need, behind Uplift.

I personally would appreciate it if we could just continue to not engage with that plot line

If a Shadow Clone can do it, it is a cheap way to kill Jonin or S-Rankers. But we have no idea what Jiraiya did except that it created an enormous explosion
I wonder why Gai didn't spam 8 Gates with Shadow Clones. Presumably there's some reason. You require an original chakra network to use it?

Regardless, I think that the technique was 'Jiriya uses his knowledge of sealing to detonate literally every tag he has, a quantity which was dictated and/or heavily influenced by Kagome, in a manner which causes maximal destruction'. A clone with enough resources and enough sealing knowledge could probably pull it off, but honestly it isn't clear to me that it would be the slam-dunk we're thinking: at that point in the conflict, folks were already pretty beat up, and while it absolutely seemed highly effective, I don't know how much of that can be attributed to the technique vs. the fact that everyone was half-dead already.

Do we know of any techniques/jutsu which incorporate seals as a requisite element? The jutsu library would be interesting to mine. I wonder how many ways that have that cross-referenced at this point.

@faflec et al: Could someone please remind me what is currently known about Honoka's parents?
Yamamoto Aoi: Honoka's mother. Kagome loves her because she makes good food like marshberry pie or creaky chicken (Mari tricked Kagome into giving them free food under the guise of making that one). Apparently used to be an "ill-tempered shrew" (her words), but mellowed out so Honoka could have a good role model. Loves her family.

Yamamoto Kaori: Honoka's father. Used to be impulsive with doing things without talking to Aoi first and ended up getting ignored for a couple of weeks as a result. Ran a shop with his parents before they died and apparently something bad happened with the amount of labor they had available. Loves his family (given the limited screentime he has).

Honoka's father picked their first apartment without consulting his new wife. Honoka's mother was very angry, not speaking to him for weeks. She said that she imagined many things wrong with the home, "even the well water wasn't as sweet."

From what we've seen, Honoka's parents have a love-based relationship (rare in MfD), but her father has had little screentime.

Edit: Honoka's mother goes to the back room of their store when a male ninja comes in, allowing her husband to handle the transaction on his own. This is because they both worry about... Power dynamics. When Honoka's mother went to console an upset Kagome, she hesitated at first, before ultimately deciding that Kagome wasn't one to "take liberties."

The Yaks are still persona non grata from siding with Danzou. It's why, I suspect, Asuma was so indifferent to Haru's murders and why Asuma was so confident the Merchant's Council wasn't going to do anything about it. Sure, Honoka's not technically a Goketsu, but she's Kagome's student. Kagome, Mr. Boom Squish, is her sensei.

I'd say that, if they so much as glance at Honoka's parents the wrong way, we could fertilize our farms with their corpses with nothing more than a shrug and waggled finger.

Honestly, if the Yaks do this, then they're really stupid. We almost started the First Clan War in Leaf's history over (what the rest of Leaf views as) a minor insult. If they think they can hide behind Asuma's legs and poke the bear, then I think they'll be in for a surprise.
