I realize that this plan contains a lot of stuff that EJ (author of the next update) might not like writing. I'm not sure that we can leave this for more than a day, given that the Isan team needs to get back in motion.
If you wish to time your plans so as to make the QMs happy, we will not penalise you by having disaster ensue as a result of the plan you put off. (Disclaimer: not a general policy.)

[X] Action Plan: Seal Team 6

My suggestions re: the bank run are as follows. There is a spare word so we can indicate what's offscreened if that seems like a good idea (I think so).

[X] Action Plan: Seal Team 6
Word Count: 298
  • Akane, Haru, Gaku:
    • Bank run update.
    • Hyuga-Hagomoro connections are interesting.
      • Can we track the scrip they spent? (Markings/wood/paper/other distinguishing qualities? Reference Kagome decoding Jiriya's notes.)
      • Very pleased w/progress. Offer resources: writs from clan head, directly pressuring people, whatever we can provide.
    • Tone: Haru is doing a great job, we want to enable his work without interfering.
Offscreen Kumokogo/Asuma
  • Kumokogo
    • Could you beat a Dragon on your own, or how much help would you need?
    • How easy would it be to lead them off one by one into an ambush?
    • Do they have any known weaknesses?
    • What info should Hazou share with everyone else?
  • Asuma
    • When Hazou's Medium Consequences heal, pitch the coalition to Asuma, and request Asuma's attendance to their meetings when he has time (possibly ask Enma to go in his stead?). Otherwise, provide a dossier of the discussion for Asuma.
  • Sealmaster Coalition
    • Request the attendance of Leaf's Sealmasters and Summoners, with Asuma's backing if provided. Request that Summoners summon a Clan Representative.
    • Explain what Hazou knows of the Great Seal and the Dragons, hand out copies of the Great Seal made with Kagome's help.
      • Emphasize that one mostly-depowered Dragon massacred a battalion of Summons without injury, and could reach this Path at full power.
      • Share Kumokogo's threat estimate of the Dragons and any information she wants passed on.
      • Any information Summon Clans are willing to disclose would be greatly appreciated.
      • Hazou has extensive notes on the Great Seal, but this project is beyond any one person. Understanding and fixing the seal will require everyone.
        • One team should research fixing the seal, another should begin devising weapons for Summoners to use, since only they can reach the threat.
          • Ask who would prefer what research team.
          • Does anyone know anything of shaping stone seals?

I'm looking for a direct reference to the part where Kagome decoded Jiriya's notes using the sort of paper that they were written on as a tool to fix them in time/space: if we can show that the Hyuga/Hags bought a LOT of scrip and then exchanged that same scrip for gold in large quantities, that's another piece of the puzzle.

When Hazou's Medium Consequences heal

Thats a lot of wasted time, Hazou isn't going to be useful for the research soon enough. We should talk to Tsunade about how to work with Orochimaru and not get abducted. She does know whats at stake, even if most other Summoning clans don't think the Dragons are a threat, Hazou absorbing a seal that nearly killed him is pretty good evidance that this isn't some random normal seal.

Just ask Tsunade how to work with him and if he was serious that he cares about strange ninjutsu, we can probably convince the Arachnid Empress that a few lost jutsu to a very far away summoning clan and summoner isn't as bad as extinction by monsters.

In the security of his own room, Kagome quietly poured himself a glass of sake. It wasn't much, but even if the others didn't remember--

"Hey, Kagome," Akane said, leaning in through the window because she'd figured out that, as long as she didn't try to cross the invisible line of death, it was faster than waiting for him to unlock his door. "Whatcha up to?"

"Nothing much," Kagome said. "Probably making more exploding tags. Yeah, sounds about right."

"Oh," Akane said. "Well, why don't you come down and join me and Hazō and Ino for tea? We've got something we want to tell you about."

"Sure," Kagome said, casting one puzzled look back at the room, where a forlorn glass of sake sat on his desk. "I wouldn't want to miss anything important."

crap, this means that the weakening of the blood theory is very plausible, as i don't think they have the numbers to sustain an evolutionary pressure that overtly favored ninja's over civilians without getting into a genetic bottleneck.

alternatively, this is the default and the only reason the rest of the E.N don't have these numbers is due to the insanely high mortality of young ninja compared to Isan.
What is the weakening of the blood theory?

Hazou isn't going to be useful for the research soon enough
I'm not really sure Hazou is going to be that much more useful healed than he is already. His sealing stat is not going to be his main contribution here, it's his idea generation and his memory of the seal.

We should talk to Tsunade about how to work with Orochimaru and not get abducted.
If Orochimaru wanted to abduct us we would already be abducted, simple as. This doesn't suddenly become easier for him just because all of the sealmasters get assembled imo. Considering clan heads aren't disappearing every time he wants to do research and the fact that it's (in my opinion) pretty likely he's already encountered our bloodline before and abducted someone with it, I'm not sure how much useful advice Tsunade would have. It would be better to ask how not to annoy him or something

We haven't talked to Oro because a lot of players think that talking him will lead to Hazou's death, talking to Tsunade about him is simply to confirm that this doesn't happen.

And we should try to figure out what he wants instead of hoping that he wants to help, the Cat Boss didn't take the Eaters serious, if Oro thinks this isn't his problem he will just not do anything.

Mari did understand the why, it's the reason she freaked out. The core point of the plan is "Use the our position to take power from the High Priest", and the answer is "The seconds he finds out he's going to throw everything he has at us, because otherwise he's done for". Only we are four people, and he has the backing of pretty much entire village, because we skipped the "bring the clans on our side" prep work.
Regarding the sacred texts, we can still use them as "This is how you can spread your religion and Leaf will help you do so".
I'm don't think the Creed of Aiko is an evangelical one. Plenty of religions don't care to spread through proselytism, only to keep its membership pure and maybe expand through the birth of additional pure members and the eradication of impurities and obstacles.
copies of the Great Seal
How are we doing this without frying Hazou's brain again?
[X] Kagome Celebrates Hazou's Grued Birthday
I'm missing something. What happened to Hazou's birthday?

I'm missing something. What happened to Hazou's birthday?
We missed the timing to write it because there was a bunch of interesting stuff going on in that timeframe, so it ended up as future interlude material. For my part, I haven't got round to doing it as an interlude because coming up with quality presents and such drains a lot of spoons, and interludes are for when we're low on spoons.

How was it possible to take proper, proportionate revenge on someone she still loved, and someone whose suffering would be mirrored in their other loved ones?
The first step is to recognize that the problem is not a matter of one person against another, but addressing one's concerns about the other's actions. While emotionally it may seem that this is a situation where the other person is the enemy and must be destroyed in reality the best way to achieve a preferred outcome is to work together towards a solution regarding the disagreeable behavior.

How could she repay monstrous deeds without herself becoming a monster?
Recognize that the deeds in question are only one product of one undesirable part of Mari's personality and are not a reflection of her in her totality. The hardest part of practicing empathy is accepting, not just acknowledging, that other people think and react in ways that are incomprehensible to you even if you were put in their exact same past experiences; that is the nature of any person's innate nature fundamentally differing from another person. It is why the 'nature vs. nurture' debate still exists to this day.

Where could she even find the initiative?
For Keiko? By applying her pessimism more broadly. Out of all of the adult ninja in Mist only the few willing to found Hidden Swamp were willing to attempt to improve the lives of themselves and their chosen unwitting followers. Yagura had all of the power in the village and he chose to turn his home into a totalitarian dystopia. All of the clans feared his power and never challenged his authority to try to improve Mist (whether or not that was wise since infighting might have left Mist vulnerable to outside aggressors is debatable). Of all of the trained killers and child soldiers in Mist only Mari and a few others chose to rebel. It was not a purely altruistic action on her part and the bitter yet undeniable justification is that purely selfless people do not survive on their own as ninjas in the MfD world.

Mari had a horrible childhood. She was an innocent victim and understandably wanted to lash out against what she perceived to be the source of her anguish. Despite her thirst for revenge she did manage to enact some positive change in the world. Breaking/subverting the cycle of hatred, however unintended, is laudable. What isn't acceptable is her insistence on resting on her laurels. There is much more to be done in pursuit of Uplift and acting as though the ends justify the means discredits the struggles our team went through to get to this point. The means were terrible and Keiko has every right to feel the way she does. While we cannot undo the past and its nightmares we can look back on them to spurn ourselves to action so that similar circumstances might be circumvented for future generations of innocents. What happened to Keiko and Mari was not their fault but the fault of those in positions of power choosing to embrace selfish actions to benefit themselves or choosing inaction when they might have been able to help Mari or Keiko. Now that Keiko and Mari have some authority they can both act for the betterment of those who might not yet even be born.

That is how these two can achieve meaningful reconciliation: not by arguing over who had the worst past but by collaborating to build a better future for everyone.

I made a handful of wording changes so there was room to slide in Tsunade. Maybe we can get a tag to invoke on our 'don't piss yourself' roll.
Word count: 293

Offscreen Kumokogo/Asuma/Tsunade
  • Kumokogo
    • Could you defeat a Dragon independently? How much help would you need?
    • How easy would it be to separate and ambush a single Dragon?
    • Do they have any known weaknesses?
    • What info should/can Hazou share?
  • Asuma
    • When Hazou's well enough, pitch the coalition to Asuma, request Asuma's attendance at meetings, availability permitting.
      • Possibly ask Enma to go in his stead?
    • Provide a summary of all discussions for Asuma.
  • Tsunade:
    • Tips for working with Orochimaru?

... I mean, of course. If you have sufficiently high chakra capacity, you're found by one of the villages, who abduct you and force you into a job where you're 88% likely to die before reaching twenty (are these numbers still roughly correct, @Inferno Vulpix?). This has been going on for hundreds of years. There are very strong evolutionary pressures towards minimizing chakra capacity. It is blindingly obvious, now that I think about it, and Isan is as blatant evidence for this as it can get. A literal control group. And Mist's shrinking imports... Did I somehow miss this before, or have we really not thought of it until now?

The real scorch squad was the ninja system all along.

Um, if Takahashi can lean on Azai then great.

I'm of the opinion that we should immediately treat the Great Sealing repair as a BoTG situation. The only problem is, now we have to worry about how the other villages would react.

Definitely should reach out to the Aunt Ren, SSSSS and Yoshida for assistance. All hands on deck.

I've been saying this on and off for a while now, ninja villages are a highly effective selection mechanism to remove chakra-capacity genes from the genepool of any and all civilian villages, and in time the rate of ninja births from civilian villages will steadily decline until practically no ninja are ever born except within ninja villages. At least, unless ninja are... fertile enough on their journeys across the country to seed new chakra-capacity genes into civilian villages, but even then the only way that bleeds into the general genepool of the village is if the ninja's children aren't themselves ninjas and thus plucked away by the ninja village, so the deck's still stacked against them.

But also yeah, that number should be about right. I actually finished the demographics a while ago and got 'this is a good baseline but exceptions apply' approval from the QMs, so I'm really not sure why I don't seem to have it linked anywhere I could find. I'll post the link here, and it'll be in my sig from now on.

I think that discussing it locally before reaching out is reasonable. The cost of reaching out in a BoTG-style fashion is that we compromise a lot of classified sealing-related knowledge. The seal has held and doesn't show signs of suddenly weakening. Moreover, 'there is an international crisis, please reveal to us your secrets and make yourselves vulnerable to us on the strength of our word alone' is a little iffy. Taking some time to evaluate and discuss will lend credence to our request for help if and when we make one.
