You know, if Keiko gets the contract, we'll have the opportunity to study a REAL summoning scroll. Maybe we can be the next Yellow Flash.

Innovation does come from someone who is determined to see his work become reality. We are very determined when we wish to be.

We just have to hope they are amendable to the cold logic that Keiko posses, and hope that she thinks of us once they start pulling out the contracts which lists prior summoners. Cause List! = Hazou apparently.

Yup, everything's going to work out just fine! Keiko's 8 Diplomacy/Deception is enough to save her from the pre-Hidden Village summoning creatures! No trouble whatsoever!
We went to all this trouble for their sake and, frankly, she doesn't need to lie to them about everything we've done. I feel like not extending them that trust would be a great mistake. They're the only people we can really trust.

You can do anything so long as you believe in yourself!

Who needs training when you have optimism?

Turn that frown upside down young lady! You have eldritch beings from another dimension that just so happen to look like cuddly armored mammals to impress!

Failure means you never get to come home at best and all of your teammates get swarmed by a bunch of enraged Hill Billies, so just don't fail!

It's as simple as that!

Yay positive thinking!

Fingers crossed that this won't turn out to be Takahashi 2.0

It would a real bummer if the summons impose some kind of strict limitations on the specifics of when they allow themselves to be summoned.

I wouldn't mind doing some tasks for them; I just don't want Keiko to be indefinitely indentured to them.

On the bright side, pangolins are insectivores, so that particular scenario shouldn't happen.

On the other hand, if Keiko stays there long enough for a meal, she will probably have to eat some bugs.

Should be interesting.

Eating insects isn't the strangest things that humans do...since a large population of people on Earth do eat insects.

It's we westerners who are strange.

Still, considering Pangolins are closely related to anteaters, it will be hilarious when at mealtime Keiko gets offered an insect hive, no utensils, and is expected to eat the creepy crawlies with only her tongue.

How should we start our merchant empire?
Just go up to random towns and start recruiting people?
Where will we find resources to trade?
Where will we get starting capital?
Where will we set our first trade routes?

We still have trade goods. Most of them should be intact. We join an existing caravan, maybe one that passes a village we made a fort next to, follow their route.

Buy low, sell high, repeat until we have enough cash to hire middlemen to do trading and guards to go with them (and maybe 2-3 of us to keep an eye on things, assuming our stats permit it by then)

Once we get practice in Tea we move to mainland and do same thing there.

We can supplement initial funds by doing work. Hopefully not box hauling this time.

What's the kind of time-line people are thinking here? I'm not sure how practical this merchant empire idea is, especially with the world trudging closer to possible oblivion with every day

1) Initially spend some time smoothing stuff out with the village + letting our teammates heal + developing Keiko's summoning stuff if it went well

2) Get in contact with Jiraiya and update him on rain + secret village + pangolin contract

3) merchant empire things (set up a number of bases, recruit, develop merchant skills, build routes, etc)

I see a lot of things that can stop us at 1 or 2. What if Jiraiya has some plans for us, like wanting us to infiltrate somewhere etc? What if he wants us to formally ally with leaf or something (summoning contract = substantial power on the table)? What if he said no to merchant empire because too much worldly influence?

I understand the merchant excitement, but wouldn't brainstorming he better spent on sooner things than later?

I dislike the idea of joining a pre-existing caravan.

At the moment, we have 5-7 ninja (depending on whether Kei survives, and whether Yuno joins the party) and that's probably enough to be a major caravan on our own, considering that we can carry a huge number of storage scrolls between us.

If we recruit say, 10 civilian employees, then we can add another 100 or so storage scrolls, which means that we could carry more supplies than any non-ninja without even getting any beasts of burden.

We don't need to start small. We can start medium sized.

And if civilians can be taught to use seals then we can employ whole teams of mass-cargo-carrying middlemen right off the bat.

First of all, WOOOOOOOOO people are talking about how we are gonna do this, not if!

As for the first step, we need to gather information.

Prices
Markets
Goods
Routes
Borders (and their security)
Knowledge of how trade works already so we can beat the competition
Knowledge of how (or possibly if) countries regulate and track everything involved in trading

Then it becomes a matter of finding our niche. How can we cut costs? Can we open up new markets? Can we topple any existing monopolies? Can we create new and/or better products or means of production than the competition?

After that, there are too many variables to consider for anything specific. We may also want to contemplate inventing new modes of transportation or shell companies, just to be safe. We don't want anything traceable back to us lest someone send some A+ rank ninjas after us to takeover our hard earned infrastructure.

We don't want to be notorious like Gato; we should have our fingers in every pie so we can and just skim off some of the profits. Legitimate businesses popping up across the Elemental Nations is a lot less intriguing than a mega corporation dominating multiple marketa. In fact, we could even establish redundant companies to compete against each other just to make it look like the free market is as ruthless as usual. It doesn't matter if the companies aren't as profitable as they could be if they were combined so long as no one else can compete with us.

Welcome to Covert Mercantilism folks. The Elemental Nations won't know what hit 'em.

Honestly the one issue I have with setting up the merchant empire is "how are we gonna keep the merchants from squealing on our buttholes". Because our merchants are gonna get rich quickly if they use storage seals, and eventually one of them's gonna get noticed by ninja forces, and then caught with seals. The end result will be Mist hunter-nin putting higher priority on finding/killing us, which is gonna suck. Like, really suck.

I honestly can't condone a plan without some method of avoiding our eventual assassination. Right now my plans are "get S-rank" and "make ROOT-stfu seals". Which aren't really plans.

I think we should focus on express delivery by ninja services...then once we become secure, then we can start looking to employ civilians.

Simple: we control the means.

The merchants only exist to act as the store front: they buy and sell as well as report market fluctuations and gossip to us.

If a merchant gets uppity, we cut him off; no more seals, exotic goods, or ninja transportation. We then establish a new working relationship with someone else. If he squeals to the local ninja force, we leave that market until it's safe to return. With storage seals (and hopefully air transport later on) we won't have to worry about things like warehouses to store our goods or expiration dates; we have magical bullshit and the creativity to exploit it.

When it comes to liability, all we have to do is find someone greedy enough to take a small chance on us and smart enough to not ask too many questions.

We will have Greed on our side to teach people that the best way for them to get rich is to follow our plan. Carrot and stick motivation at its simplest works wonders.

We would have the advantage of ninja delivery with Noburi giving us greater force projection due to him resupplying our Chakra. We don't have to stop and rest as often as other ninja would have to recover chakra spend on boosting their speed. Even with a high recovery rate, they do not have the instant recovery with little to no side effect that a solider pill would have.

Note to Thread: Test soldier pills for side effects. Test Noburi's Chakra water-aid for side effects.
Can we ask Inoue about soldier pills, she would have the most chance of encountering them compared to the rest of the group. And quite possibly the closest ninja within 5 miles who knows the most about them.

That will work for the initial endeavors, but if we want to get to a reasonable scale we can't rely solely on Noburi.

Also Keiko's brain might fry from so much use of her bloodline, so we will need more accountants, preferably Mori's.

Come to think of it, we could use more seal users to up production and IN is just so useful...

Does the simplest solution always come back to eugenics, or is it just me? :p
