Gah, I'm just looking at the plans and I don't like either.

hYGP's plan spends money like water in ways I can't support. Oneiros' plan tries to ram through us getting cleared of quarantine in less than a single line, as if it's just a formality and not a very real concern that our mental state is at risk of flaring up into dangerous insanity or Out-inspired malice.

If push comes to shove I'd probably vote for Oneiros' plan, but I'd really prefer if we didn't approach our quarantine like it's some petty formality we can be rid of with no fuss now that we want to do sealing again.

Current plan
[X] Action plan: One week
  • Spend one week advancing the following projects, checking everything with the clan.
  • Summoning Scrolls: Get information on the regions where we suspect the scrolls are.
    • Haru and Akane: Interview merchants and ninja.
      • Learn about local contacts, powerful groups, and other agents that might be helpful.
      • Find out about local customs.
    • Hazō and Kagome:
      • Review Jiraiya's notes, searching for contacts or assets that might be helpful.
      • Procure maps of the area.
  • Skysliders:
    • Not important to fly - just to glide. Birds of prey can glide for hours on updrafts without flapping, so let's not build a design that flaps.
      • In fact, if gliding is hard, then very few shapes should work. Kites are one, folded up paper is not.
      • Therefore, we should make a thing which doesn't move at all - so we can find a shape that glides and not risk changing it.
    • Small birds can't carry very heavy prey. We want the skyslider to carry heavy things (people), so the glider itself should be light.
      • Don't start with big designs of course - start with little ones and once there are some that work, scale up
      • Are there wood types that are sturdy and light? Make a frame with that, like "bones".
      • What is lightweight that can cover a wing? Maybe stretch fabric over the wood frame?
  • Socials:
    • Hang out with Noda
      • She needs a friend right now
      • She was a jerk to us but we understand and don't hold it against her
      • If she wants help we will offer it but no obligation
      • No plots no manipulation just peers talking
  • Get cleared by Kagome to start seal research.
    • Start work on larger storage scrolls, checking Jiraiya's decoded notes for hints.
  • Misc:

I'm generally in agreement. Is there a chance you could write up a plan? I can, but not for a couple hours, and I trust my plan-making and general Hazou-read less than I trust yours. But otherwise I'll try when off-work

Is 15 million ryo really that bad?

If paying Tsunade was the problem, have a plan that just steals the Noda section from Oneiros and replaces the Tsunade section as a plan :V

[X] Action Plan: Improving Shitty Situations
Wordcount: 272

Run ideas past the clan where possible.
  • Hang out with Noda
    • She needs a friend right now
    • She was a jerk to us but we understand and don't hold it against her
    • If she wants help we will offer it but no obligation
    • No plots no manipulation just peers talking
  • Kagome
    • Get clearance for sealwork - at least blank production, possibly research.
    • If cleared, begin research into chakdar.
  • Sanitation
    • Estate
      • Proclaim Uplift as the Goketsu Clan philosophy.
        • Goal: Give everyone in our clan a reason to go above and beyond for our cause.
        • Main thrust: This world may be a cold, dark, and unforgiving forest, but we will give everything we have to clear a space for all of us, civilian and ninja alike to thrive.
        • We must all give everything we have for this dream of a better world.
    • Team-building
      • Convene a commission to study sanitation improvements.
        • Include local residents, medical experts, and us.
      • Construct the problem.
        • Get every stakeholder (including us) to be able to answer:
          • Why does improving sanitation matter?
          • For whom does improving sanitation matter to?
          • Who needs to care more?
          • What will a place with better sanitation be like?
            • What would be a measurable end-goal look (or smell) like?
      • Deconstruct the problem into solvable root causes, creating a branching diagram.
        • Based on which root problems are more solvable than others, create an initial, limited, and detailed plan of action.
          • The plan should be limited to a week.
          • Execute.

[x] Action Plan: Scrolls, Engineering, Noda
  • Spend one week advancing the following projects, checking everything with the clan.
  • Summoning Scrolls: Get information on the regions where we suspect the scrolls are.
    • Haru and Akane: Interview merchants and ninja.
      • Learn about local contacts, customs, powerful groups, and other agents that might be helpful.
    • Hazō:
      • Review Jiraiya's notes, searching for contacts or assets.
      • Procure maps of the area.
  • Engineering
    • Check on the skyslider team.
      • Try gliding, not flapping.
      • Try fabric stretched over a light wood frame.
    • Assemble a team for designing an aqueduct, and another for designing a sewer.
      • Archimedes screws to lift water.
      • Waste water should be downstream of settlements.
    • Assemble a team to design and build a flushing toilet prototype.
      • U-bend forms layer of water between user and flushed waste's miasma.
      • Pressure of water falling from cistern forces waste through to the other side of the U-bend.
  • Hang out with Noda
    • She needs a friend right now
    • She was a jerk to us but we understand and don't hold it against her
    • If she wants help we will offer it but no obligation
    • No plots no manipulation just peers talking
  • Misc:

I'd actually suggest just sicking Akane on Noda.

It has been established on multiple occasions that Akane is impossible to hate if you're a human person. No comment on fucking Kouta.

I have no idea what's going with this plan and why it's now the winning plan.

The engineering section isn't going to fly. We're giving people projects with no attempt to justify why we're doing this. We're also giving ideas to Hazo's head and expect them to come out fully formed.

Does Hazo even know what an Archimedes screw is?

In other words, it's not going to work the way we wanted because we focused on three separate engineering projects and spreading ourselves thin.

I'm not sold on the approach "Scrolls, Engineering, Noda" is taking wrt. sanitation. Aqueducts and sewers don't have much momentum behind them in-universe and tbh I'm not sure there aren't terrible chakra beast implications. I'd rather focus more carefully on skysliders, since their value is a lot more readily apparent and actionable.

TL;DR Sanitation needs a slower burn, and I don't want to split focus.

[X] Action plan: One week

I would support a focused sanitation engineering plan or a skyslider plan, but not dividing up our focus to the point of not working.

EJ basically said this is what we should do, and trying to justify it piecemeal and have Hazo catch on was not going to work because Hazou wasn't going to take said action without us directing it.

I have a different understanding. Prepping justification for Hazo and then giving Hazo the ideas he needed are what we should do. In other words, it can't come out of nowhere, but we're not making Hazo come up with ideas on his own.

Clarification?

so sorta new to this quest. anyway I was wondering how I should approach this quest. I cant seem to find the info on the system.

just wondering how I should aproach this thread. on chapter 5 and just wondering if I should avoid mechanics until a certain point like in forge of destiny.

anyway pls give me suggestions on how to read this quest as a newbie if ya can. how to get info on mechanics and xp

My vote is going in here shortly, once I decide, I just wanted to be the 6th post on page 6666. Don't mind me.

Welcome to the Hivemind @Raydom ! How did you find out about the quest (@eaglejarl usually likes to know)?

The easiest way to get a sense of it, I think, would be to just start looking through character sheets to get a feel for how the mechanics work. Like, a lot of people signatures, at the bottom of their posts, will be a like to Hazou, Noburi, Keiko and Akane's sheets. That'll give you an idea of the system to start. We get XP based on a combination of a plan length (shorter is better), and plan quality (does it make sense, is it clever, is it fun to write, etc), scaled by time covered.

Essentially, twice a week we vote in what we want to do for the next plan. Voting usually ends a day and a half before the next chapter comes out, to give the QMs time to write. Hazou does have agency, and isn't our puppet, so plans need to jive with who he is as a character (which has been largely impacted by us over the quest). Easiest way to get a sense of the thread is to just... Start reading it? Like, I'd go back a couple chapters maybe, and just read through the thread to get a feel for how we work on plans and vote.

If you have any specific questions, ask away, and hopefully someone who isn't me will respond will a more thorough answer
