This may sound petty, but please don't misuse "literally" to mean "emphatically". There are many words that mean "emphatically", but only one that means "literally", and once it's gone, it's gone. We've already lost words like "decimate" (which means "remove one in ten").
I think by now, most people use "actually" in the way that "literally" historically has been used. Relatedly, "decimate" has likely been lost because a word meaning "to remove one in ten" is... generally not a word that there's much use for anymore?

Also, I think Evenstar was using literally in the sense that you're describing; she's implying that Mari's jutsu actually/literally turns others into herself.

That was far too smooth. Where the heck is the real Hazō? How can we get the Out-creature out of his head? Will there be a horrible "I have no mouth but I must scream" chapter in a half an hour, when eaglejarl reveals what it's like to be possessed and have your body puppeted against your will?
This sort of situation is where Hazou shines, socially. He's got time to prepare his game plan and his conversational partner is a peer instead of Zabuza or Ami. It's when we're hopelessly outclassed or surprised and on the back foot that Hazou flounders, and Haru didn't pull anything unexpected here so everything went according to keikaku.

(Translator's Note: Keikaku means Keiko's Plan)

I personally think that guns were invented and then promptly fell out of use in the EN. Guns were originally invented to destroy plate armor, right? And if, for whatever reason, guns were invented in the EN, I doubt that they'd last very long. Between fire jutsu that can melt the metal, lightning that can set off the gunpowder, water that can keep the gun from firing, and earth that can can tank the shots, I have a hard time seeing gun development being anything less than a defunct tech in the history of the EN, much in the way that our own history has many thousands of dead-end technological branches that never went anywhere.

edit: ninja-ed by eaglejarl
Wasn't it longbows that were developed to destroy armour? IIRC infantry-scale guns had nothing special going for them except that they didn't require training the way effective bowmen did.

We also didn't threaten him.

Not longbows, this:

Crossbows actually does that first. You load, point and shoot.

Crossbows had the problem of either being really heavy and capable of piercing plate, or light enough for most infantry to use and not capable. Cavalry is/was the best answer to heavy plate for a long time for a reason

But cavalry is involved in a game of rock-paper-scissors where it beats plate armor but gets devastated by pike/halberdier men. Crossbows blew the game entirely. Guns were a logical extension of crossbows. Moreover, at the end of crossbow era, crossbows were armed with lead bullets.

The problem with heaviness you describe here was more common for early Chinese crossbows that were mostly used as mounted ballistas at fortresses walls. Even light crossbow hit would lead to a serious injury, even if it was not enough to pierce the armor.

The invention and mass usage of crossbows destroyed heavy infantry because they could have been incapacitated by a blow to legs or head even with light variants. Bigger, slower, crossbows didn't gave shit about armor at all. And then came a version of crossbow with winch that allowed to achieve a draw of 500kg in the field.

First guns were lousy enough that they were worse than the best of crossbows of the time. However they were close enough and were recharged almost instantly in comparison to crossbows.

However, armor still persisted for some time after the invention of guns - Spain used cuirasses up to destruction of Great Armade, when guns were already common among all armies of the west world.

What guns actually destroyed is knights. They no longer had an advantage against gunmen, moreover they were easier target since they moved slower. Hence the light cavalry gained an upper hand. And it was waaaay easier to afford a horse and sabre than to buy a full plate armor. This lead to increase in numbers of light cavalry and they were used up to invention of tanks and aviation.

New running list of tasks, as of this update:

    • Generally reviewing and approving proposals
      • the paperwork, it never fucking ends....
    • Local Merchant Empire:
      • Sawmills:

    • Adoption:
      • Interviewing Candidates:
        • In-progress in all plans, IIRC.
      • Pushing for higher ceiling:
        • Some plans.

    • "Shimura" "Estate"
      • Tabled in most plans.
    • Salt Empire
      • Tabled due to lack of free time. May need to prepare for salt crunch soonish.
    • Akatsuki Suggestion
      • Unsure if this ever went anywhere.
    • International Merchant Empire
      • Should've arrived almost a month ago. Whatever did happen to those guys?

      • Tabled until situation stabilizes, I believe.
I forgot to do this in all the interesting excitement surrounding the latest update, but I'm going to update it now. Here's the list of currently running tasks as I remember.

Let's ah... not pretend that Hazou didn't beat the hell out of Zabuza the last time he ran socials against him.

I mean, yeah, he lost the exchange, but that was very much a victory.

something terrifying
Ok.

We should start a bank and begin [ridiculous finance bullshit].

We should finance a dead pool and artificially inflate things via proxies to throw our enemies off. They won't expect us to live very long because the betting market says so, so none of them will individually care to do anything.

We should go learn BioSealing-- Jiraiya was a scaredy cat for being freaked out by it-- and transform the chakra fox into a combat companion after grafting horrible things to it.

We should invent a horrifyingly complex seal with no obvious purpose at all and send the research notes to the Nara with an overly excited message.

We should make a "Ren Sucks, Hana Rules. Where are my presents?" seal (it is a seal whose blank says that) and mail it to the Mizukage.

Related, what happens when seal masters try to infuse normal writing?

Edit: Once we get shadow clones we should have one dedicated to learning MedKnow and iryonjutsu

Given that you draw seals in chakra ink, that question sounds about as coherent as "What if you tried to power a pencil-drawn circuit?". If you asked a professional that question I expect you'd get an askance glance and a "you do know how electricity works, right?"

It's a perfectly **coherent** question. It's just that the equally coherent answer is "Nothing good!" :p

*pokes thread with a stick* do something terrifying already
The nature of the world is such that a single earth-nature ninja with an appropriate technique, or a sufficient quantity of storage seals, could very easily change the climate and also destroy a nation and its populace.

The world's terrifying enough without us doing anything.
