@Noumero I haven't been paying attention much to breaking EM and so don't know exactly what this is talking about, but would it be appropriate to add a further discussion on this to the plan?
Nope, a WMD. IIRC, skywalk over an enemy village, create a lasting effect that drops temperature to -200 Celsius; air becomes liquid, falls down and obliterates buildings, freezes more air in the process, creating a city-scale death rain in addition to hurricane winds.
@Noumero bring up asking Naruto to meet Sasuke before the clan meeting ends, to see Mari's opinion of it.
We should tell Asuma that Tsunade's vote can be secured by promising funding for medical education and R&D.
Maybe mention the possibility of using the Seventh Path to sell these goods for gold/other valuables, and then taking that stuff to sell in the EN for ryo.
Implemented, implemented, implemented.

Added another idea: adopting Kurenai to give Asuma a political excuse to marry her.

[x] Action Plan: Disheartening Lack of All-Consuming Horror
Wordcount: 246
  • Continue the meeting:
    • On Ami:
      • Can we trust her? Alternatively, does Mari have her handled?
      • Any insights into her mind?
      • Should we spend her favour now? Ideas:
        • Maximize our political influence in Leaf.
        • "Maximize my social competence".
        • Acquire us IN social training.
    • Could we exploit the Kuronuma and Akasugi Yakuza's cold war?
    • Misc.:
      • Adoption: What clanless jounin are available?
        • Ami's creating a de-facto 'clanless clan'. Need to act fast.
        • Adopt Kurenai, giving Asuma an opportunity for political marriage?
      • Could Naruto convince Sasuke to support Asuma? They were teammates...
      • Tsunade: Promise her funding before Hiashi?
        • Either through Asuma, or by suggesting collaboration on land-clearing scheme.
      • Could we sell exchange salt to the Pangolins for gold, then sell gold outside Leaf (like Jiraiya did)?
        • Or go through Asuma, giving him a cut.
        • Consider starting general trade with Summons. Our markets are desynchronized...
      • Who are the remaining Leaf jounin? Their political affiliations?
      • What'll happen to the Dog/Turtle Scrolls?
        • If Lee's the next Turtle Summoner, should we reconsider adoption?
  • Prepare for and schedule meetings:
    • Tomorrow: Ino (lunch), Chouza (afternoon), Asuma (dinner).
    • Overmorrow: Shino, Minami, Team Nakano.
  • Commit an instance of creative training.
  • Next day: Meet with Ino.
    • Express our condolences. Reminisce about our fathers.
    • At risk of meddling: Is there anything we can do for Chouza? He must be feeling awful.
      • Collaborate on a memorial service, or a monument?
      • If you figure anything out, carry out.
    • Ask her thoughts on politics.
      • Any important developments we might've missed?

I like this. I like it a lot.

But it will be tough to pull off. You would need undisputed power of the type the First hokakge would have wielded. Remember, the Third was probably against abuse as well, and it didn't stop under him. This isn't a no. It isn't even a "maybe later". Its a "be very clever".

Arent we currently using our Ami favor on a really vague "do things which increase my utility in ways that my morals would allow me to do personally had I the skill"?

I might have found a better target for it in that case ;^P

Furthermore, at the level of Elemental Mastery you need to reach -200 C (level 40 or so) the effect of the jutsu will last about seven hours after Akane stops concentration and leaves the area.

Furthermore furthermore, level 40 is quite viable to reach, especially given that it would then also give halfcost on all other Fire jutsu Akane might want to bring up to 40 as well. Add in the regular combat benefits of EM (turning an entire zone up 200 degrees is gonna cause a heck of a lot of area denial) and it's not even that much XP diverted away from the build.

Ooh! Slightly unethical but hey ninja politics.

What if we used our civvie connections to compile reports on political opponents hurting civvies? Its supposedly enough to instantly killbox leaf ninja right? If ISC+G came forward together with those reports and a goal to reform civvie relations under Asuma it would be really hard for the moderates to vote for Hyuga without massive face backlash.

Snitches get stitches...

I like it.

Nothing I've done is even on the border of illegal. Do you want to know my secret weapon for turning civilian merchants into unknowing agents working hard to destroy Leaf's current social fabric? Respect.
The goal is to make things better for everyone, not just us. Both because it's the right thing to do and because it will result in us being respected and loved. Respect, love, and having made society richer means safety and power for us.
With each update, my frown at Mari becomes more and more severe. If everything is so innocent, whom did she use TLitF on?
Seventy Standards of a Superlatively Superior Shinobi said:
The longer everything goes according to plan, the bigger the impending disaster.

Can we go back a bit?
Mari smiled approvingly at his last words. "Yes, I know that storage seals aren't reliable on destruction. They are reliable enough so long as there's nothing obstructing the ejection point, and when they do fail they just eat their contents."

"No," Kagome said. "Not always. Almost always, if the seal is destroyed and ejection point is obstructed then the contents simply vanish. Very occasionally, something bad happens."

Mari went pale. "Ah. I did not know that."

Kagome shrugged. "Well, now you do," he said, poking at the bowl of stewed artichoke hearts that he'd salvaged from the post-dinner destruction. (They'd been very popular, since he'd been very careful about draining the blood after the last time.)

"When you say 'bad'...?"

He shrugged again, not looking up from where he was poking his food. "I've never heard of it being any of the more esoteric failures. Generally just the usual. Blood, death, screaming, that kind of thing."

"Ah." She paused. "I shall remember that in future."
Just to this part. Maybe talk to Mari about something Hazou's learned over the past year and a half. Something about clearing plans with the team...? No? That's okay too. :p

Ah, right — the assumption that TLitF induces a persistent detached emotional state in the user. I do hope we get around to checking it, before something in its neighborhood explodes at us.

Honestly, I'm not sure whether it was a genuine mistake or whether she knew perfectly well it wasn't safe but considered the off-chance that it fails badly an acceptable risk. She probably wouldn't have brought it up if it was the latter, I suppose...

Bah, I'm not sure if I'm being too paranoid for suspecting her of running rogue or not paranoid enough for not assuming-until-proven-otherwise that she is running rogue.

@MMKII, note the last section. Is it the right one?

It's 10 PM. Finish the Ami stuff, and we can finish the rest tomorrow.

Counterpoint:

They just vote for Hiashi so that he can say "No, they're innocent." because thats a thing the Hokage can do.

Democracy doesn't really exist here.

If everything is so innocent, whom did she use TLitF on?

My crackpot theory is that she used it on Ami. Mostly just because the eye color reveal happened in the Ami scene and that's the kind of logic I'm used to from other stories.

Honestly, it wouldn't shock me if she had used it on everyone she thought wouldn't catch on.
Important clan elder slighted? No memory, no problem.
Extracted information from someone in a way that could arouse suspicion? No memory, no problem.
Wanna find out exactly how much concessions you can get out of someone through repeated memory erasure? Then this jutsu is perfect for you.
And it doesn't even cost her anything she thinks she deserves.

We should ask Akane what she thinks about the Mari situation if we have't yet. If there was some progress while we were away, we'd find out from her.
Anyways, her advise should be good.

Mari frowned. "Salt? The stuff is...what, three hundred ryō to the pound? It would take a lot of salt to support us. How are you going to beat the local prices without violating the Merchant Council rules?"

Salt's currently 300 ryo to the pound. A kilogram is 2.20462 pound. So it's more than 600 per kilogram or somewhere around that.

Noticed the price because I thought the price was halved from historical data. Turn out that the QMs were not consistent in their chosen unit of measure.

Alright, I'll bite the bullet. @Noumero I want to add a line asking Keiko to come over to discuss Seventh Path-related shenanigans, three things in particular:
  • Schedule training sessions with Noburi so he can learn Summoning.
  • Clarify* the conversation wherein she cancels the Skytowers trade.
  • Discuss the possibility of economic trade with the Seventh Path, such as selling salt or ice for gold and other valuables.
In other circumstances I'd consider just waiting until the current politiking is over, but Noburi's training is best done sooner so we can trade with the Seventh Path, and we can't do the obvious thing and train with Asuma if he's going to be campaigning for Hokage.

*By which I mean we convince her to stall the trade by citing Jiraiya's death, and shift the trade to us and the Toads under the guise of her being a Nara now.

It sounds like a big ticket item, as in lot of spoonworks. So we'll need to cut something else as well.

I think we need to get Noburi the training, but if in the event that Noburi can't actually do it...we're screwed, unless we have another candidate who can start learning summoning.

Eh? I'm just talking about scheduling the meeting, not doing it. Chronologically this should take place after all our political meetings we've planned already.

Edit: As for Noburi being unable to Summon...it'll take weeks to check properly, and we do want to get things squared for Seventh Path trades quickly to not go under...
