@Evenstar I thought a bit more about your drive/motive modeling system, and it does seem weird to me that all pairs always have to work in both directions. It would imply that all loyal people are honorable too, that all heroism leads to paternalism and vice versa, or that belief in authority invariably makes one studious. That, or I misunderstood quite how it all works.

I'm not. Dog and Turtle should go to whomever Kakashi and Gai left them to. Call me a sap but I think they should be the ones to decide that.

On the plus side, that means that we quite possibly have additional reason to adopt Lee.

Yup thats where my brain went.

Hazuo: Lee! My most Youthful friend! Come be my child!
Lee: Yes Daddy!

Anyone care to spend an hour or three before breakfast the next calendar day sparring with Lee and Akane? We can make an Ami-style training bit out of it in addition to checking up on our good buddy.

"Suicidal people have a negative survival drive. "

I'm, uh, not sure if thats an accurate way to model that. Even when I was planning my suicide attempts I didn't want to die as my end goal, I wanted to solve or escape problems that I had no way to solve. Suicide was just the only way I could find to fulfil that goal.

I had to read this three times to figure out that you didn't want the players to go out of their way to pick a fight with Asian people IRL.

I'm totally down for this as long as we start explicitly scheduling things out. Like we did before the tournament. We have lots of meetings we need to arrange before we start making moves politically

omg, yes. I think we should do that anyway, like we have:
  • Clan meeting to figure out wtf Mari's doing.
  • ISC meeting to coordinate on Hat politicking.
  • Asuma meeting to coordinate on Hat politicking.
  • Minami meeting to get them on board with our candidate.
  • Hagoromo meeting to get them on board with our candidate.
  • Aburame meeting to get them on board with our candidate.
  • Uchiha meeting to try and help secure their vote (Mari might have this one).
And that's just politically-related stuff, if we want to do stuff related to money-making we have to get to work checking if our plans for salt/ice'll work, fix the issue with the Pangolins...

We have a lot of stuff to do.

@Evenstar

I find your emotional models here really interesting, and this is clearly something you've put a lot of thought into. What do you think it looks like when you chain a drive with an anti-drive? If, say, you take Freedom, invert it to Imprisonment, and then chain Imprisonment to a "good" drive like Belonging? I can only assume it would be mentally unhealthy, but you've already given examples of drives chained to drives that are unhealthy, so I can't help but wonder whether you can get healthy "mix and match" type chains.

Edit: I suppose the obvious way to make it work is by inverting Retribution to Mercy and chaining that, but the unpleasant inversion of Retribution wouldn't be Mercy but Injustice. Harder, but you could chain Injustice to Wealth (allowing your asshole boss to tell unfair jokes at your expense instead of snarking back allows you to keep your high-paying job, etc.) which could be adaptive, even if it isn't exactly fun.
I'm going to guess that the Drives are what define a particular mindspace, so they can't be inverted, but can be negated. So you couldn't have Belonging Is Imprisonment, but you could have Freedom Is Lacking Belonging or Belonging is Lacking Freedom.
Fake E: Ninja'd.

We have a lot of stuff to do.

Keeping in mind we need a little bit more info on some of the political players before committing to a specific meeting approach and style.

We also need to infiltrate leafs underworld, turn Neji, give Kabuto the research proposal, meet with agents black and white, figure out what Ami is to, start Kagome teaching sealing and, look up laws related to land reclamation.

What did he say, exactly?

I could see alternatives, like the university having powerful inhabitants that are defense from interference enough.

It's international diplomacy that would set this up, not a bunch of strongmen demanding that it shall be done.

It's a strange thing to lie about. If it were a lie it would be far too easy to uncover. There are easier ways to demonize one's enemies than making up a university that doesn't actually exist so they can be alleged to have cut off access to it. Tell people they lie, cheat, start wars and eat babies, or whatever. Stuff that's harder to disprove or notice as a lie than claims about a university nobody else would ever have heard of.

If you guys really think it's a lie, there's an easy way to find out. Just have one of the other summoners ask their summons. If they're aware of the university (and access to it will have been within living memory for some) then there you have it. If they aren't, then it looks more likely it's made up. This would probably work best with clans that aren't allied with the Pangolins. Perhaps the slug(s).

We're basing this on Jiraiya's comparatively greater experience in the summon realm who said the university thing is a myth.

Honestly, pretty much all of this sans figuring out Ami's motivation can wait until the hat problem is resolved.

I'm also not sure what you mean by "turn Neji", but if it's anything vaguely adjacent to making him work against Hyuuga interests, then it seems pretty much impossible in anything but the extreme long-term.

Eh, figuring out laws related to land reclamation is something that's pretty relevant now.

Seeing as how the strongmen approach is exactly how ninja villages work, doesn't this seem like a pretty big assumption to you? A few beings on par with the boss summons could make attacking somewhere an unattractive prospect. This isn't a world where beings are all roughly of the same power like our own, where diplomacy would be the only way to do it.

We may need to interact with the underworld /do that other stuff if we find ourselves short on money in the sort of sums necessary to deal with any financial problems on the Hat side of things.

Pretty sure the law aren't going to be the problem. I am more interested in figuring out how fast to clear land for us, given safe methods available to us.

The law is always a problem.

I don't think you understand the idea of "social infrastructure". You'll need norms, treaties, traditions, and trust to make it work. It's dependent on more than just strongmen to make such an Academy work, ditto for the chunin exam.

Can you see the wisdom of involving Tsunade in this endeavour yet?

She would be the go-to for this sort of thing.

Also, she sort of psuedo-rules Tanzaku Gai as her base of operations for her work, right? She probably knows something about local underworld in the city if she spends a lot of her time there, if she doesn't outright have an NAP with them already-- if I were a thug in her city I wouldn't think to piss a drop without getting her written permission to do so first.

I assure you I do, and there's no need to insult someone because you don't understand their objection to a point. I'm going to chalk this up to you having a bad day and let the topic drop.
