Huh. If J doesn't come back, it'll be hard for us to get much experience leading missions in the near future, since clan head sealmaster new chunin would be such an attractive target. Which works just fine for teaching, lighthousing, and politicking goals.
If Jiraiya or Naruto don't come back, then we'd pretty much be stuck in the village to run the clan, or at least for as long as Mari is unstable which could be for a long while if we don't snap her out of it.

  • On the way back to Leaf:
    • Socialize with your fellow Leaf ninja.
    • Be wary! You are perfect targets for an ambush.
Delegation

Don't forget paranoia works both way in term of positive and negative interactions. I don't think it's likely we will encounter an ambush, putting it at one percent. We could however, suggests way to avoid or reduce the likelihood of ambushes.

Use skytowers for camping if allowed, zig zag rather than stay on roads, let the less paranoid persons interact with border guard and stuff.

"Be wary" is hardly going to invoke Mad Eye Moody levels of paranoia.

Assuming, of course, that without J, Naruto or a functional Mari we'll even have a clan at the end of the week. If not, we become moderately expendable new chunin during a time when we need boots on the ground

Expendable. Yes.

Look I'm not saying we were responsible for the destruction of the other villages when they would have been a threat to us on missions, perish the thought!

I was thinking more "same chakra as the person who activated me". But yeah, that's the idea.

In addition, did we already test whether the alarm seals respond to nature chakra?
Isn't nature chakra everywhere? They can't possibly or they'd go off all the time.

Which also suggests that maybe Sage Mode might mean someone could bypass the alarm seals. Interesting.

It's possible that they'd only go off with a certain concentration of nature chakra. The nature chakra in a blade of grass might not set it off, but the nature chakra contained in a summon or someone using sage mode might.

Fair point. I suspect it'd probably be easier to design them to just exclude nature chakra entirely, though, as opposed to worrying about calibrating for typical levels. People who can use Sage Mode or even know about it are so rare it's probable the seal designer didn't know or think about it as a way to get around the seal.

I think that even in a Bad Timeline, we would be able to stand unmolested under Tsunade or Orochimaru's aegis.

Hello! Significant edits have been made to maximize proactivity with what information we have access to. I wanted to include much more than this, but that would result in throwing a 900ish wordcount sized blob of machinations out in one plan, and I don't think anyone benefits from that.

(Incidentally, @Roomba , I notice you did not give me a vote. Well, I put in a "Hyuuga lunch" thing, so maybe I can haz now? :) )

Yeet count: 397
[x] Action Plan: Yeet the dab

Contingencies

  • Keiko: Routinely check in at the Pangolin-Toad embassy every few hours to see if theres any news.
  • Check plans beforehand with Keiko/Noburi as appropriate.

Loose Ends
  • Make seals(Banshee Slayers and Earbusters) for the next 6 hours, hand them off to Jiraiya before either of you leave Mist.
    • Pack some storage seals filled with food as well.
  • Say bye to Mom, thanks for the advice about killing intent.
    • *gallows humor* So, any advice on being a clan heir?
    • The next few months are probably going to be tough. Hazou will find a way to keep in touch, though. Everything is going to be ok.
  • On the way back
    • Socialize with your fellow Leaf ninja.
    • Be wary! You are perfect targets for an ambush.
  • Homecoming
    • Update Mari and Kagome on everything.
      • Hug Mari. It's good to see her!
      • We missed you guys.
    • What's happened while we were away?
    • Steel yourself for the inevitable reveal that everything has gone to heck and that you now need to fix everything.
      • In case of super traumatic news, make sure no one leaves the compound to do anything stupid.
        • This goes double for yourself.
Delegation

  • Delegate the following tasks to clan mates. Make it clear that the next week is going to be an all-hands-on-deck situation. Everyone is going to need to be on the same page. Discuss any concerns, alter things as necessary and thank them sincerely afterwards.
    • Kagome:
      • Could you please use Calligraphy to make fancy invitations to send to people as appropriate?
    • Keiko:
      • Could you work out the clan's financial situation?
      • Might have to use your merchant "fans"-- I guess thats what they are?-- as a path to make inroads with the Merchant Council. Acceptable?
    • Noburi
      • Work your magic on Keiko's "Fan Club" to get the identity of prominent Merchant Council members. Get as much actionable info as possible.
    • Mari:
      • If you're feeling up to it, help where you can.
  • Schedule the following lunches/dinners later this week
    • Hinata/Neji/Hanabi
      • They're prominent clan members, so socialization with them is important.
    • ISC
      • Ditto the above.
    • Shino and Kiba
      • Ditto the above.
    • Leaf Academy's Head Instructor.
      • Good relationship for the future when furthering Kagome's education plans.
      • Its a decent position, they're bound to be influential and thus immensely useful.
    • Misc.
      • Block off several extra time slots for later in the week in case of extra lunch/dinner meetings.

I feel like plan names have been getting less and less descriptive of what the plan is about as time goes on. XD

Edit:
Also, I don't think Orochimaru leaves anything unmolested.

Two things:

I'm not really feeling the meeting with the Leaf Academy Head Instructor. We don't have a stated reason because both of our reasons are kind of underhanded (not malign, but underhanded), and I think that we're not savvy enough socially yet to make one of the generic platitudes sound convincing. As a result of this, I think it's going to be obvious to the guy and whoever else knows of it that we're pursuing an agenda with the meeting, and that not only gets in the way of our plans for them but casts attention and suspicion on us.

Secondly, I express continued concern at the trend of >300 wordcount plans in recent times. This isn't a full-blown objection because I do recognize that these are important times, but I'd like to ask sincerely if these sections all need to be done in this update. If we're giving the QMs too many scenes to write in one update and some of the plan is going to have to be reposted next cycle anyways, I'd rather we identify that first and save the XP.

I'm trying to act as an early-warning beacon for us slipping into old habits of kiloword plans before we start hemorrhaging XP making sure we've got twice as many scenes as we need planned in more detail than necessary, so this isn't a dig at you specifically.

@MMKII I kinda don't like your additions... :(

Edit: Specifically, the meeting with the Hyuga clan: Hazou isn't going to have a fun time with Hinata, his social skills aren't gonna cut it right now.

Thanks, I'll try to keep those in mind. I can nix the instructor thing but I think this is something we could do without much in the way of reasons--beyond what motivation we have, anyway.

Please submit the "Planmaking Constructive Criticisms Form 1330A" together with the "Vague Declaration of Disapproval " addendum that can both be found at your local Mizukage's office.

I thought Jiraiya wanted us to just hold the fort until he came back (hah), was my impression of his instructions?
He doesn't want you to do anything that will permanently bind the clan or cause problems. As far as Hazō can tell, Jiraiya doesn't expect you to sit in your room for the week.

Just making sure it's okay for me to propose multiple plans.
I'm just throwing stuff at a wall to see what people's preferences are like, but if it's causing too much noise, ill hold back.
You're welcome to propose as many as you want. Approval voting is cool like that. :>

Can we write multiple independent seals on a large sheet of paper?
  • I.e I have a long scroll, can I write a storage seal on one end and a macerator on the other end and still have them work independently?
Checking...

@eaglejarl, @Velorien, @OliWhail So uh...can we get specs on Keiko's new jutsu?
Let me get back to you on that.

What's the policy on Conditional plans?
They are strongly discouraged. Note that, if you do go forward with it, the excess wordcount is likely to work against you.

Hazou doesn't necessarily need to take point in this if it comes to social combat.
True, he could task Noburi with handling delicate schmoozing and negotiations if Mari is still out of commission. It would be great for the future if they could develop a dynamic where they tackle different aspects of political problems, along with Keiko's predictive advice to guide planning.

You have addressed this before. The answer was that the seals don't care if they're on the same medium as long as they don't touch, but that putting two on the same piece of paper creates the possibility of them touching, which could be very, very bad.

If you have just one seal on a piece of paper and fold it, is that very bad too, or is it OK?

Edit:

On reflection, it probably must be, otherwise the chances of something going boom after touching itself fluttering in the wind would be unacceptably high.

It wasn't addressed in that post, but my impression has been that once the ink dries and the seal is infused it takes a bit more than just stacking them together to create interference.

The larger question is what utility you are going for which outweighs the small but horrifically consequential chance of some paper manufacturing error or random raindrop in the wrong place shorting two seals on the same piece of paper?
