Why would he think that? If we were to unintentionally taunt him there would be easier ways to do so.
(...snip...)

I mean, there are always many ways you could taunt somoene, that another way exists doesn't disprove our intention here? Plus, the quoted behaviour is obvious and nondeniable, and so we'd have to be suicidal to undertake it. Whereas just casually inviting him as the only Mist Jonin into a gathering of random genin + all leaf ninjas, where our only personal connection is what it is... It's like saying "You failed to catch us and you can't do shit about it now". Which is maybe even true, maybe he can't do anything about it right now, but surely that tests his patience and does not endear us to him.

Just take his respect that he offered to Keiko for now, don't push it.

ETA: oh, I just missed the Ha(i)ku pun eh.

Jiraiya is automatically invited, I think?

PAI, not PAW :p

Can you clarify that we're asking him about his response. "So what's it gonna be?" or "And so?" etc
Included reasoning in my plan. See below:

On the way back:
  • Stop by the Momochi residence and invite Zabuza to game night.
    • Zabuza is a man who symbolizes the epitome of ninja culture. He is nothing if not a brutal, efficient killer, free of remorse or guilt or compassion, a willing tool of death and destruction. He has no reason at all to care for our ideals, and likely thinks little more of the alliance with Leaf.
    • But ultimately, if we are to succeed in our goals, we will still have to deal with those such as he, and what better a place to start? When will we ever have an opportunity like this again? We will extend him an invitation to game night, and take one tiny step towards lasting peace and prosperity through fellowship and glorious munchkinry.
  • Maybe also ask for his signature if he isn't looking too homicidal...
Both plans have been edited to reflect the above suggestions.

  • Run the plan through with Jiraiya, Noburi, and Keiko (unless already done).
  • Lunch with Shin.
    • Guidelines:
      • Observe OPSEC, stay alert, avoid hard commitments.
      • Be confident. Shin isn't a jounin.
      • He is a silver-tongued viper. Keep your cool. Respond to taunts/manipulations with dry amusement.
    • Start the interaction amicably.
      • Minor flexing: casually name-drop Ami for the regulars' menu. Mention your promotion, ask about his.
    • Elaborate on your offer/intentions:
      • Cooperation was our motto all exam. We're here to build bridges.
      • We're also offering an enormous boost to his career here.
      • (As a callback, order a bottle of Kurohige's Revenge and glasses (shallow pours, save the rest).)
      • Ask for his response ("So what's it gonna be?").
    • Invite him to game night.
  • Go see Hana again.
    • No fighting, spend some nice time with your mom.
    • Confide about the Ami debacle. Avoid details that might breach OPSEC.
      • How do you deal with people like that?
      • The hell is with that Jonin aura crap anyway? It sucks.
    • Give her the biggest of bear hugs.
Added a brief section to my plan stating to run things through with the Goketsu (if not already done).

I'm considering having Hazou just sending a messenger instead of going ourselves, what do the rest of you think? @MMKII @Inferno Vulpix @Noumero ??

I also think that many Leaf people will not be happy playing boardgames with the guy that recently murdered their friends in a grand battle where the previous Hokage died.

Just saying.

@everyone I made deals with, I didn't specify this, but I hope it goes without saying that I don't intend to be bound by any terms if a plan to invite Zabuza doesn't win. Feel free to retract votes or renegotiate if that's not acceptable.

^_^

Why would he think that? If we were to unintentionally taunt him there would be easier ways to do so.

HAZOU: Board games are nice and but here we like to mix things up. Therefore I propose a new game the Gouketsu like to call "Keep the Haiku alive". Each one of us will say a line of the haiku and the next person in line will have to continue it. Allow us to give you guys an example:

HAZOU: At first Mist we were.

KEIKO: Then we ran but we got chased.

NOBURI: By you-know-who.

HAZOU: Simple, right? Mom, why don't you start and we go clockwise?

HANA: Sure: Bowls, bowls of water.

REN: You need to stop and seek help.

AMI: Hana, why can't you stop?

HAZOU: Nicely done! Next one, please.

KEIKO: Hey big scary man.

NOBURI: Are you compensating for something?

ZABUZA: I am not, my sword is just fine.

HAZOU: Oh no, those were eight syllables. Looks like Zabuza couldn't the haiku alive.

ZABUZA: *stands up* How dare you! I did my best and I would have given my life gladly in exchange for his!

HAZOU: Umm.

ZABUZA: I will now murder everyone in this room.

KEIKO: Sage damn it, Hazou.

HAZOU: Hello and good evening Zabuza-sama. Thank you for attending our game night.

ZABUZA: Yes.

HAZOU: You can take the seat right next to my mother.

ZABUZA: Hello, Hana.

HANA: Hello, Zabuza.

HAZOU: Oh, you two have already met?

ZABUZA: I was debriefed on her file in case she went rogue and went gallivanting around the continent like some useless layabouts I could mention.

HANA: We used to drink at the same bar.

HAZOU: I see.

...

HAZOU: She's a kenjutsu practitioner and she's also single.

HANA: Don't make me fetch the bucket.

ZABUZA: I'm intrigued, tell me more?

HAZOU: This was a mistake. I should stop making decisions on impulse.

AMI: No, keep doing it! Also, hi voices! I love this line-by-line thing, very efficient comedy tool! ^_^

HAZOU: I regret everything.

We already have invited a number of people as of Velorien's last update, so I assume thats set in stone.

Sorry, what's set in stone? That Zabuza is invited? Or where we're holding the party?
Hazō proposed that tomorrow night the Gōketsu would hold a truly epic gaming night. The entire Leaf contingent would be invited, of course, including the jōnin and any off-shift ANBU. So would all tournament participants, with plus twos for those who wanted to bring their teams or particularly beloved family members. Mum would naturally be invited. Aunt Ren would not, despite being a family member and also the Mizukage—Hazō had put his foot down, and firmly asked Jiraiya to come up with some diplomatic excuse if need be. Whether Keiko invited Ami would be determined by how tomorrow's meeting went, and while a strange little voice in the back of his head tempted him to invite Zabuza just to see what happened, he still had missing-nin survival instincts.

I'm assuming that "The entire Leaf contingent" includes Jiraiya, Hiashi, every other person under the sun, etc.

@faflec

Maybe we should specifically invite mother dearest to game night?

Eh, I'll add it. One sec.

The hivemind: wow dealing with Ami is exhausting. Why do we keep interacting with people so far above us and thinking it'll work out fine?

Also the hivemind: let's invite Zabuza to play board games with us!

It could actually represent progress. Zabuza is a famous swordsman and hunter, not a famous socialite. (Although there's an amusing image.)

If we have to engage with scary jonin, let's do it outside their area of expertise.
