The Mountain tapirs aren't connected to the Seventh Path in any way. They're just trained tame chakra beasts or something and the village uses them to supplement their military. Pangolin's the only Seventh Path game in town.

Takahashi wants to reform and centralize Mountain in preparation for contact with the outside world, so he asked us to stay away for a year. Depending on how that went down we could have a position in the village anywhere from 'religious figurehead' (if Takahashi was very successful in gaining loyalties and centralizing power) to 'theocratic leader' (if Takahashi failed horribly and the village is gripped by religious zeal) and there's no real way to know right now.

e: I should point out that it sounds very unlikely that we'd be able to stroll in and claim 'theocratic leader' power as simple as that. Even in most of the cases where the village is gripped by religious zeal we should expect the religious leaders of the village to try and use Keiko as a pawn while holding de facto leadership of the village.

The simple fact of the matter is that we have few connections in Mountain while these people have had forever to build loyalties. While no-one would outright disagree with Keiko's religious prominence (unless things have gone really south) we're going to work hard if we want to leverage that into secular power.

Yeah, I assumed having Keiko as a distant hero doing some vague good works out in the world would be what Mountain would be satisfied with.

So, a question, because I feel like I'm missing something: why should we care about the day of the finals, exactly? I mean, Keiko has a match, but it's not one we can contribute much to strategically, and it's not like there's some great big meet-and-greet international party arranged for afterwards (or Jiraiya would have told us and given us marching orders). I mean, there's the awards ceremony? If there is one, anyway, I can't remember.

It feels like if there's anything that'll come up related to the finals, it'll basically be a cutscene. So I'm just kind of confused?

We can in fact help Keiko out with strategy. Just, you know. Gotta work through her issues with Hazou first.

I mean, can we, really? What strategies have we suggested so far other than "keep range and blow things up"? The most interesting question is whether it's worth it to break the rules in a match where multiple Kage might bust our balls if they catch us, which seems fairly cut-and-dry.

Honestly, with the limitations on our resource usage and with the way all the interesting methods of cheating have been gradually closed-off, the Chuunin Exam has turned out more a matter of build than tactics, and it's too late to try and respec for it. So long there's likely minimal returns and "just gotta work through her issues with Hazou first" is a factor, I'd really rather focus on other things.

(I feel like I'm at risk of becoming the one-note "you know, we CAN just not do thing, that's an option" guy, but I guess that has to be someone.)

I mean, I'd rather there be a reason we had to work through our issues with her. So I'm fine with this.

Maybe Ino can give Hazou advice about social skills? And he can try out his "clanless ninja deserve better" arguments on her.

ive lost track of all the girls were datenotdating at the same time

Well, if you'll refer to my shipping chart here, I think that about covers it, aside from some unrequited blackrom toward Team Uplift in general from Haru.
It could be argued that one could delude onself into believing that Youth was in a complete moirallegiance with oneself and that, given that it is not an actor, the world would not look any different either way.

e: That is to say, inasmuch as one can say "I hate X and X hates me" where X is something that is physically incapable of doing so, one could say the same about moirallegiance.

I apologize, additionally. I made a slight error in the original formulation of the shipping chart. If you'll direct your attention to the right side:

Shino's chakra drain seems to work pretty quickly so whatever summon Keiko uses has to either win her the fight immediately or protect her perfectly from being drained.

At least we know Shino can't do much about the summon itself since it's a bad idea to drain them though he probably carries explosives now like everyone else who got enlightened by Team Uplift.

There's a special "not dating" for what we're doing with Tsunade.

Anybody not on this list, we're probably not not dating.
This is great, but could you not simply reduce it to "we are not dating Zabuza (at present)"?

I must disagree with this list.

We're going bowling with Sasuke.

By some means we shall never know, I managed to delete my draft for the rest of the update while working on the Shinō/Chōji fight. If you're getting a small earthquake in your area, that's the propagation of my facepalm.

Luckily, we had a backup interlude ready, so I'll be posting that shortly.

About that, where in the timeline are we? Post Shikamaru vs Keiko but pre letter or are we at the letter stage?

I mean can we talk to Keiko before the letter arrives or now that it's here?
*shrug*

I've been operating under the assumption that "Next morning you receive a message:..." endings firmly nail down the start time of the next update to be after receiving said message. Though, @Velorien's vote closing statement on Wednesday seems to imply otherwise, kinda?

How did we even get to a situation where this is a reasonable question to ask?
Well, we've been doing a lot of fast forwarding/junping around.
