I recall, during our journey to Mist I did have a plan that had Hazou admit to Keiko what he really thought about Ami's treatment of her, but it was sabotaged by @Velorien:

Anyone want to go back to that? I doubt we can make her a lot more angry at us, and this is a topic that should naturally bring out Hazou's spine.
I mean... yeah, but she cares more about her sister than herself. Which is a problem, yes, but it's going to reflect on how she takes this kind of thing.

e: On the other hand, it could set up a scene where Keiko's all "You didn't grow up with siblings, what would you know about a good sister" and Hazou's all "I have one NOW, you blithering nimrod!!!" so I can get behind that.

I apologize if my posts are coming off argumentative at all. That's not my intent.
It's cool. You generally come across as soft-spoken, so I tend to give you the benefit of the doubt whenever written communication leaves tone unclear.

Me? Sabotage high-risk high-reward player plans? Good sir, I direct you to your own signature.

Modulo your usual pre-deadline teasing

"Oh boy this is a great plan! Apropos of nothing, do you want Hazou's new spine to replace the old one or ...?"

etc.

I am in several conspiracies at the moment (including the conspiracy to create conspiracies to further the interests of already created conspiracies (including this self-same conspiracy) which primarily plot to create conspiracies) and it makes it quite hard to get plans voted in. I relish the challenge!

Although, I have to say, the Hazou x Ino conspiracy is a bit put out that we went back to a vote last Thursday. Here we thought we were going to trick everyone into having meaningful HazouIno content on Valentine's Day, under the guise of something so practical and reasonable that I'm not sure if anyone actually considered that particular facet. Alas, our clever plot has been foiled.

If it makes you feel any better, there wouldn't have been meaningful HazōIno content posted on Valentine's Day anyway, by dint of me having plans for same.

As to your conspiracy, you need to plan a level higher. I have a friend who plots conspiracies against his own conspiracies. It makes for very interesting board games.

I will neither confirm nor deny the existence of any "Conspiracy to create conspiracies which directly oppose already extant conspiracies.", but I will say that if it existed then as a member of the conspiracy to create conspiracies to further the interests of already created conspiracies (including this self-same conspiracy) which primarily plot to create conspiracies, I would be honor bound to create conspiracies to support that conspiracy in its duly appointed mission.

[X] Action Plan: Reasonable Handling of New Information.
[X] Action Plan: It's Kinda Sorta The Other Plan But With Shopping and Socializing
[X] The Plan I Never Got To Make But I Wish I Could
[X] Let @Velorien write what he wants, as long as Hazou marries Ami. We love and trust him.
[x] Happy Valentines Day, Gouketsu Hazou
    [X] Plan: Drink alcohol
    [X] Action Plan: Punch yourself
[X] Hazou raises his hand to knock on Keiko's door, only to be tackled to the ground by a shadowy figure. It's Hazou from the future, attempting to save his past self from a terrible fate far in the future that all stems from this moment. Noburi knocks the future Hazou away and tenses to fight, but both Hazous immediately devolve into structured meaningful conversation about their goals and perspectives. After both sides have said their peace, future Hazou agrees to avert the terrible fate in a more productive way. As Hazou approaches Keiko's door again, he slips on a banana peel and hits the floor hard, rendering him comatose. Future Hazou hides the body and takes his place.
[X] Keiko descends into unprecedented bout of depression, after burning out of her righteous fury. In self-flagellating act of desperation, unwilling to face her siblings or be a burden any more than she is, she reverse summons herself. She stays there until next match, which she loses due to lack of preparations or support from their more creatively-minded family. This defeat puts Keiko into a state of pure agonizing panic, which she tries to further escape by plunging herself into Frozen Skein. This act renders her comatose, leading to a whole slew of consequences, culminating in Mori Ami and Goketsu Hazou combining their forces to make a WMD capable of wiping out all realities where Keiko is dead. As their definition of "dead" includes "not there to begin with" our universe is destroyed as well.
[X] Publically talk about the marriage proposal to Ami
[X] Poll: Relax for exactly 28 minutes before preparing the Ami date.
[X] Look like Ami, because were are cute AF. Hug Keiko. Then Hug everyone else.

    [X] Family reunion
[x] Congratulate Keiko on her betrothal
    [X] Armageddon Initiative
[X] Do Not Buy A YOUTHSUIT
[x] Go Drinking with the Yakuza Lieutenant
[X] Start reading the Icha-Icha series.

Voting is and/or remains over.

While the latest numbered update specifies no voting, the latest chronological update does. Fortunately, nobody decided to promote the meme votes and tempt me.

Reviewing the winning plan, I am also much relieved to see that none of you pre-empted my plans for this update by making plans for the post-match afternoon, instead skipping straight to the following morning.

@Velorien is too nice to say this, but I'm not and I'm on a bit of a short fuse lately due to family issues.

*writes, deletes, writes second, toned-down draft*

This was probably just a case of text not carrying nuance very well, but it would be appreciated if y'all did not accuse the QMs of 'sabotaging' your plans. It implies malice and/or unfairness and those are not traits that we have. We go to a great deal of trouble to be fair; we rarely cut breaks, but we never sabotage.

Thank you.

Just goes to show how wildly context can diverge in this discussion format - for me it was obvious that I was joking, and not actually accusing anyone of sabotaging plans, in the same way that we were joking earlier about @Velorien forcing you to delete the update because he's evil and hates Hazou having a spine. I was really confident it would be read as such, too, as it cleanly fit into a long running-joke where I made continued attempts to get the Ami conversation in the plan for him. Just goes to show, you can never be sure.

So, let me be absolutely clear about this: I don't consider the relationship between QMs and players at all adversarial in this quest, and the idea that you guys would approach this venture, which you clearly put so much effort and time into, with any kind of malice towards the playerbase, I find to be utterly ridiculous. Please accept my apology for upsetting you with a clearly inappropriate joke at an obviously bad time and adding to your problems. I'll try to be more mindful of this in the future.

Sorry to hear about your family stuff. :( <3

If it helps, I think Roomba was joking about "sabotaging" a risky plan via dissuading the thread from voting for it, not "sabotage" in how the winning plan was carried out. As he and Velorien pointed out, this isn't something we usually worry about with you guys—rather the opposite!

"If the insects do not stop feeding when you pass out then you will die. I do not want that."

"Awwww. See, I knew you loved me. Under that troublesome exterior, you're just a big ball of mush, aren't you?"

"...No, it's just that if Shino inflicts a fatality, the entire Leaf contingent will be disqualified, and I do not want that."

The main issue here, to my mind, is that there was no consensus. Perspectives ranged from "we should care about Keiko's feelings and accept limitations on our actions for her benefit" to "Keiko is dumb and needs to get over herself while we go do things that matter".

More generally, there is no set pattern according to which posting shows up in Hazō's subconscious. There are dozens of different voices here, all whispering different and sometimes contradictory things.

While I'm fine with 247 being removed, even if I quite liked it, I did think part of the support is that it actually strikes a balance between those two camps. We did a thing that addressed some of Keiko's skewed self- concept, while not conceding certain ground and still being productive, which I feel would have been a reasonably acceptable compromise. The fact that it was somewhat cathartic and had a positive result definitely has an impact though, since support is unlikely to be as high if the same thing was tried and fell flat.

For me personally, having multiple friends and a significant other with similarly skewed self- perception, I just found it immensely satisfying that it happened, went over well, made some impact and nobody exploded (explicitly from Hazou's rant, anyway).

But contentment at a good result and satisfaction of proxy wish fulfilment aren't justification for a thing being canon. I'm excited to see what you have planned tomorrow.

From where I'm standing, it seems like its main draw (writing quality aside) is that it has Hazō solving the players' relationship problems for them.
Just want to comment on my personal experience here, with the general disclaimer that you folks do as thou wilt, not arguing for a return of the Chapter-That-Never-Was, love you guys, etcetera.

I don't really care about it fixing tensions so much as it was satisfying to see Hazou actively engage during an argument when someone's about to try to use Glorious Bullshit Technique on him to pull a fast one (and I think pretty much everyone OOC and IC except for Keiko is uniformly of the opinion that Keiko's self deprecating put-downs are a handful of pedantic details and uncharitable interpretations buried under a load of horseshit).

It was up there with Ino talking down to him about the Akane thing and him swatting that entire line of dialogue aside with "Other people's relationships are not your business, Yamanaka." followed by the general (paraphrasing) "Stop treating me as a walking name tag that says 'Akane's Ex' , thanks!" , or at least it was for me.

I feel like if Hazou's characterization leads him to say or do something helpful to us (like rant at Keiko with Hazou-generated points until Keiko stops being sad at herself) then that's fine to have happen, just as it's fine for Hazou's characterization to lead him to say or do something unhelpful.

I also feel like the above should be able to happen if these IC Hazou actions would cut short a thread debate on the matter. If Hazou's emotions can override a thread consensus (via plan or otherwise) when the two are sufficiently in conflict, then Hazou's emotions should be able to override a thread disagreement if Hazou's characterization is sufficiently set on one answer.

In this case, though, I don't think there really was a thread debate being disrupted. As others have mentioned, the core thrust of Hazou's rant was mostly about objecting to Keiko's self-loathing. (As opposed to his calm speech prior to that about agency and necessity and stuff, which came from the plan)

I feel a need to say this because I feel like there was danger of miscommunication during that conversation. I, personally, misunderstood Velorien's initial stance and was quite off-put until I reread the conversation and corrected my misunderstanding.

I personally hope that we get something like 247 to happen again, because I greatly enjoyed it and feel like it had positive effects, and unless the context changes I suspect Hazou's got something like that in him since eaglejarl was writing 247 as a canon chapter and thus attempting to model Hazou as accurately as he could. I don't intend to press the issue, though, because the context clearly is changing and there's no guarantee things will end up anywhere near what allowed Hazou to do what he did in 247.

Either way, though, I'm looking forward to seeing how this all goes, and I hope nothing I said came across as hostile or anything. I did this to try and help anyone who misunderstood things like I did earlier, because I feel like when we're all on the same page we're remarkably good at keeping cool heads and sharing our perspectives with each other.

Thank you all. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the support and acknowledgment of good intent. Like I said in the original, I was pretty sure it was just text being low-bandwidth, but it itches at me.@Roomba , you're great.

Hugs for all the qms!
Thank you so much for this quest. It's the first one I've participated in, but the mixture of community, memes, stellar writing, and friendly qms makes me feel incredibly at home.

Seriously. This quest feels exactly like a continuous dnd night. It's always something to look forward to. I appreciate that greatly.

Not enough snacks, but otherwise accurate. We just need to find a way to shoot the darkness and attack the gazebo.

...yes, chakra gazebos are now a thing. Fearsome predators that lie in wait for unsuspecting garden parties and then they consume them all in a horrible mashing of teeth.

"You see a gazebo."

Hazuo: I blow it up!
Noburi: Dude No! Have you never heard of a chakra gazebo?! We should be running!

What, do you think we don't have plans for an offense against the Out? Nonexistence is no excuse for being rude. We'll teach the Out better manners, don't you worry.
