That said, if we do fight her for real with the intention of going all out, we should just take her out quickly by running up and punching her really hard on our first turn ideally before she can summon a Pangolin. I don't like it because it reveals a weakness of her (she can be taken out by Chunnin-level alertness and taijutsu fairly simply), but not doing so will immediately ping her radar as "well, it sure was nice of you to let me win Hazou."

Oh, geez.
Neither of these options are ideal so I am hoping Keiko came up with a counter to this since she should be acutely aware of this issue.

Very likely that's where her secret training went.

As for the other issue: Yeah, tournament rules are preventing us from going all out but it's not like there wouldn't be any constraints in a fight between Hazou and Keiko outside of it. They obviously wouldn't use lethal tricks against each other (watch this being quoted a year from now when Hazou somehow went missing-nin again and the new Hokage Keiko has to hunt him down) and things like Goo bombs would benefit her more anyway.

Therefore I would imagine Keiko would still consider it an achievement to do well even with the constraints of the tournament but it doesn't hurt to ask her regardless - provided it is phrased in a way that doesn't offend her since she likes to interpret most things in the worst possible way.

@eaglejarl

Polite inquiry: Did you perhaps forget to include Roki on the Taijutsu rolls?

(Not trying to be That Guy since we won anyway and that was THE BESTEST, but I'm just curious.)

E: It also occurs to me we couldve just lost the roll so no big deal on answering that one, oh jarl of eagles.
No, I forgot about it. Sorry. Wouldn't have mattered, since I would rule that it isn't usable on the Block check (ie, the only one that mattered) when Hazō was blinded, and on the final punch it would just be extra damage that Hazō had to choose not to do in order to not kill his opponent. Still, I can go back and add it later, once my browsers unlock.

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail Should Hazou and Keiko get FP for winning their matches? Did Keiko get XP for winning hers?
Keiko is up to @Velorien since he wrote that fight. Hazō gets one though.

@eaglejarl, that was fucking awesome. You did an amazing job with that one
Huh. I'm glad you liked it. Personally, I was dissatisfied. I felt, if you'll pardon the pun, that it lacked punch. Hazō didn't take a single point of damage from his enemies throughout the fight and, game-mechanically, debuffing someone's Athletics is irrelevant unless you have an AOE attack that needs to be dodged with Athletics.

Hm. You know, we should add a rule that once your Athletics hits 0 you are immobilized. That would have actually put some stakes in the game.

Which reminds me... @OliWhail , @Velorien , I think at some point we discussed having initiative be Alertness+Athletics but I don't remember why we didn't. Remind me?

The Aburame could probably learn some tricks from Taylor, come to think of it.
Actually, a lot of her tricks were taken from the Aburame, bug clones being a good example.

Well, I shouldn't say "taken from", since I don't know if Wildbow ever read/watched Naruto. It might have been that thing that has frustrated me for literally thirty years: Every nifty idea turns out to have been invented by someone else years earlier.

Hmm, was this guy chosen as our opponent specifically because he was both good at taijutsu and debuffing us from range since our tools of dealing with latter were removed?
Nope.

Nope.
Shouldn't Hazou get 2 fate points?

There are two guaranteed ways to earn Fate Points: Win conflicts and/or take Consequences. At the conclusion of a conflict with meaningful stakes, each participant gains a Fate Point per Consequence they took during the conflict. Victorious characters gain an additional Fate Point.

Note the phrase 'meaningful stakes': You would not get FP for sparring or playing chess with a friend, whereas you would get it for a life-or-death fight, or a chess tournament where you really need the prize money.

Alright time to figure out what to do about the Keiko match.

Especially how she can get Panashe to plant a bazillion traps and kill us as the match starts.

Bluff her Mori voice:

We should get more ways of causing debuffs. I wonder if we should make a sonic seal that mimicks a mosquito noise to throw people who aren't using banshee slayers off their game.

I suspect that encasing targets in molten glass will inhibit their athletic performances.

Isn't it kind of funny how the ban on seals basically turned Hazou into this tournament's Rock Lee? The guy who just punches really hard and whom everyone tries to engage from range or with debuffs.

I was actually very impressed with the way you worked it out mechanically. The "narrative" of the rolls and Aspects made a lot of sense and added up to a compelling fight in the actual story. This combat system was clearly a good choice for the quest.

I mean, once his athletics is low enough, they can just toss explosives at him.
