And while winning the tournament would indeed be nice, I'm strongly opposed to sacrificing all other considerations in favour of pursuing this mirage of power and recognition. You think anyone invited Naruto to any negotiations because he punched Gaara really hard in the previous exam's finals? Impressing people by smacking around other Genin only goes so far. I guarantee you, for instance, that revealing Hazou as the creator of Skywalkers would do more for his reputation than any tournament placement. That is what we need to be looking at if we really want to be taken seriously.
I disagree with this point of view, sort of.

I view all of this super long term politicking as working towards some global optima. Obviously if this can be done without tradeoffs, it is the optimal play. There are no questions on that matter.

But that doesnt help us at all if we die to local obstacles in the meantime. We need to reach for any local maxima if our characters are to survive and truly flourish in the endgame. This means a significant portion of time in universe spent towards training and research.

We need to weight our planning towards a good ratio of local and global maximization that doesnt leave us high and dry on either end. In that respect, I dont think theres much to be said as far as our personal influence on geopolitics: we dont really have any.

I am in agreement that spending 48 hours or so of time (spread throughout the month ) on these interactions with former clans or whatever is useful. But compared to the 30 days of time for the whole break, this is an afterthought, not a priority. Any more significant fraction (>7-9% )of the training break that is spent on this would be very inneficient as far as your aims and mine are concerned, IMO.

Tl;dr : Sure, but at most a couple evenings or afternoons. You are right we should Diplo a bit more but us falling behind anymore stats-wise is a slow and painful death sentence (the combat order the last few updates is very foreboding) .

Thats Kishimoto canon unfortunately.
No, it isn't. That's not canon at all, and I'm quite certain that even if it was Eaglejarl / Velorien wouldn't include that in MFD, so it's a moot point either way.
Er, my knowledge of canon isn't the best, but isn't Kakashi really bad at that whole teaching business? Showing up late, not explaining what you are doing wrong, that sort of thing?
He's not awful, but he's not great? Like, he's definitely not a motivated teacher, but he's smart and has a very wide knowledge base which actually does make up for a lot, particularly given the number of ninjutsu he knows. Take his training sasuke for the chunin exams; he may well have been the only person who could have helped Sasuke learn that well, because he had a ninjutsu tailor made for the problem, knew a highly effective method of speed training, and has enough experience as a ninja vs an insanely wide number of techniques that he knew that those two things were what sasuke needed to know. In MfD, he's probably even better, since he's had wa
We are not built for politics.
Understatement, much.
You said well-rounded, not competent. :p
Noburi isn't fat :rage:

Kagome's birthday present is us not being dead. Let's not ruin it. :p

But seriously, ideas? Maybe get him a new disguise kit, since he lost his old one?

A custom bound tome with empty pages, for him to chronicle all the stupid ways those stupid stinking stinkers fail to adequately teach the kids, and how to do it properly.

If we're all in Leaf we could dig out and design a sealing research lab in/underneath the clan compound.

If not in Leaf... hmm...

Agreed on the last bit, and wasnt trying to imply otherwise.

It is canon though, at least if you believe that Tobirama wasnt full of shit when he explained Sharingan bloodline mechanics to Sasuke and Orochimaru.

Which is a debatable point as you can argue Tobirama is an unreliable narratoe, but its just as canon as all the other contradictory Kishimoto ish.

Good call. Would that be our collective gift to him?

We could give it a spot for a locking seal and LBF traps, too.

Tobirama is basically the textbook definition of racist; him saying something negative about the Uchiha shouldn't even really influence our opinion on the group, much less have us take it as gospel. It's also worth noting that in the scene where he says this (Manga chapter 619, to be specific), we have 2 in universe characters who disagree with his assessment; neither Orochimaru nor Hashirama buy what Tobirama is selling, and Orochimaru is probably the expert on Uchiha genetics; if there was a mental influence on the user, even if he considered it worth it for the sharingan, he'd almost definitely know about it. Instead, however, he claims that Tobirama was the cause of most of the resentment and later treason that Tobirama is attributing to special brainchakra (excuse the poor translation, I don't have time to track down a good one and it's been a while since I was reading it myself, so I don't remember which site I liked):

Orochimaru: "Those who crack down on crime tend to be easily disliked. Plus, the more authority a group has, the more conceited it can get. By building the police station next to the prison under the pretext of facilitating the monitoring of criminals, you conspicuously shoved the Uchiha clan to the margins of the village. That helped foster the Madara adherents."

Tobirama: "I gave the Uchiha positions they were perfectly suited for. And even if another Madara were to emerge, I was convinced they could deal with him better that way. The Uchiha are... a clan possessed by evil..."

Orochimaru: "Madara must have left quite a psychological scar on you, Tobirama, for you to have such fear of the Uchiha."

Here's a better idea: Give him the book, but fill it with the sum total of Kagome's teachings towards Hazou and the group as a whole. I mean, one of the things we used to get Kagome on our side in our first meeting was the idea of him passing on his knowledge.

Por que no los dos?

Man, I'm just glad that we don't have to write that book. I'm shit at birthday presents myself. :p

I actually like the book idea a lot. It would be really nice if we could do that. We could pay off the Nara in advance for the eventual print release of his first book as well.

Though it does feel a little overlap-ish, given we got Mari that book and said all the things to her about her teaching lineage too.

Joke's on you, the book we give Kagome will just be filled with explosive tags.
Chapter 46.1: How It Should Have Ended

"It's going to need a lot of seals to properly defend that entryway," Inoue said. "We figured you'd need at least one full inkstone to make them." She smiled. "Also, look at the bottom of the stone."

Kagome pulled the inkstone out and turned it over. On the bottom was glued a piece of paper with a seal on it. A very familiar seal.

Kagome shrieked, throwing the inkstone at Inoue, who caught it as she bolted forward.

"Kagome, no wai-"

But Kagome had already scrambled through the cave entrance, throwing explosive seals every which way. A faint hissing sound could be heard.

"Aw crap."

*boom*
