One other funny thing here is that once Jiraiya gets a moment to calm down and think things through, he'll start wondering how it is that Hazou hasn't immediately killed Noburi by trying to drain a summon right after Keiko got the scroll. And I kinda doubt he'll accept "It seemed like it could be dangerous" as an explanation, given what he knows of Hazou.

Or it could be an opportunity for characterization that Hazou isn't willing to risk people he cares about in pursuit of power?

Not sure why this is a huge OPSEC failure, exactly. Is it because non-Summoners don't know about nature chakra at all? If it's just that this is something chakra drainers might know about now so they don't accidentally off themselves when fighting against Summoners, that's a loss of possible advantage, but not a sure one.

"Enough," Jiraiya said sharply. "Cat's out of the bad on that one, Gamarei.

Typo. bad -> bag

...waaait a second. Did we just manage to delay the Rampage v1 until @Velorien is the one writing it?

Might be that OliWhail is going to write it. Velorien doesn't like to write punching, IIRC, and OliWhail was going to write it before this. Or eaglejarl will write a second update today.

"I think they might be surprised when they meet Hazama," A said dryly.

"Want to bet?" Jiraiya asked, leaning into the snideness that felt so right for this discussion. It would be lovely if he could distract the others onto less secret topics. "I've still got that lumber contract with your name on it. Sealmaster, Summoner, nigh-infinite chakra...your kids are fucked."

I am afraid that your Pickachu already got knocked out.

Noburi has not tried draining any pangolins, for fear of weird bloodline/summoning interactions and/or damaging one of them sufficiently to disrupt their link to Keiko.
Oh god, think about how this conversation would end up going...

Once the first round's over... A is going to know that Hazama got knocked out in the first fifteen minutes of the event. :D
10 minutes. 5 to find them, 5 for the ambush, and 15 for cleanup.

Of course, A is going to claim that his team lasted over 2 hours, since the exam technically started 2hr before we were allowed to leave :p

That was a most satisfactory ending to the crisis of Jiraiya and his little fuck up.

out of Curiosity @eaglejarl When did the assorted QM's figure out that this might be an issue? my guess is only a few chapters ago.

Why does a Kage need to be an S-ranker?

Look at Ren. She's a heroic diplomat who done more than anyone else to influence the geopolitical situation.
Power projection reasons. I think Ren is a wholly competent kage, but it's in spite of her not being an S-ranker, not because of it.
