What do we intend to do to the top teams? Beat them to a pulp and leave them in a ditch sans their word-half? In my understanding, this only dqs them from the first event, it doesn't eliminate them.

Because Team Waterfalls is another top-scoring team, Team Kurenai's already demonstrated willingness to work with us to fight them, and they (Waterfalls) are 100% gonna gun for Team Kurenai once/now that they know that Team Kurenai's a tracking team? Why wouldn't work with nominal allies to defeat a mutual, dangerous foe?
I'm okay with doing this if the intent is to play them off each other so they both lose out. Because:

Okay. So assume we'll do very well next event, since it plays to our strengths. What point total might we add there? 200-ish?

That still leaves us in a position of needing to eliminate multiple top ninja to make it to the tournament.

This is the last event and our score just fell like a rock. The game from now on is not just "Get points." if we want to get to the finals, its "Get points, and disqualify almost everybody remaining.". We have 36 hours and an event to do all of this.

Tie them up, drain them to KO, and place them such that they can't be recovered before the Event starts/ends. Maybe give them some Consequences?

If they score ~0 points and we score full points it will mostly reverse the shitty third event.

Either we curbstomp out of the gate or we prevent people from getting to the next event in the first place.

Exactly like:

Tie them up, drain them to KO, and place them such that they can't be recovered before the Event starts/ends. Maybe give them some Consequences?

We could drug them as well so it seems like they overslept? Maybe lay down some disinfo so they go to the wrong place?

We can spare an hour, and building loyalty with Akane by demonstrating that she's more important to us than any exam is worth it.
If we fuck this exam up, Jiraiya is going to be in hot water when he gets back home, likely it will be the case (given the current score distributions) that Hiashi will take the hat. Hiashi will beat around the bush searching for Naruto, so Akatsuki has more time to do their thing. If events proceed unchecked we will lose Naruto and possibly one of the greatest hopes we have of stopping WW4 in whatever form it may take.

So yeah, I disagree with your opinion just a bit.

Edit: I would normally put someones emotional stability over passing some promotion exam thing (especially that of an ally) but there are extreme extenuating circumstances to this. She understands this.

So Team Kurenai doesn't actually know the minimum time until the next Event. Is it a good idea for us to barter that information away as part of a deal? Keep in mind when we were in 1st place (Third Event) Nara gave us that information for practically nothing.

We're doing just fine in the exam. Even if we placed last in the next event we'd be in the top 20% or so of the candidates who came to the exam. Whatever happens from here on out it's not a disaster.

Its likely someone else will tell them or Hinata will lip read it out of someone from the barracks so we may as well just do it ourselves to get some brownie points in, right?

We have to *smash* the Exams, not *do well* in them. Which generally means we get to the tournament.

Aighty then.

Better to give it to them for basically nothing in return, to reinforce a sense of cooperation and fair dealing.

No, not only did we not gain any points last event, we lost 200. Much of our work from the second event is just gone. There are people who actually had massive positive point totals overall so this puts us at a comparative disadvantage of -400 points with respect to them. We just got kicked down the rankings pretty far and just barely squeezed into the next event. If we don't clear this event with flying colors and also eliminate about ~12-18 teams worth of ninja, we're pretty fucked as far as getting to the tournament goes. We can't leave that to chance.

Oh yeah, just a thought: We are now in a position where the 74 remaining contestants can be slotted with up to 3 failed contestants. I would not be surprised to find that the Fifth Event is (in part) a leadership mission, where we get three candidates with the exact same skillset as ourselves.

I'm not quite sure what you mean here?

"Heh. No, no poetry contests. Definitely a one-on-one tournament, usually as the last event. They'll define an arena, generally with some terrain inside it—rocks, a patch of trees, whatever—and you slug it out. As to the rest...probably three to five events, then a month-long break for training and partying, then the tournament. Exactly what the events are varies from year to year, but they're always oriented around testing ninja skills. Combat, stealth, espionage, kidnapping, assassination, and leadership are the primary focus. Keiko, that last one is something we'll need to brainstorm about. Some or all of the events will be team events, and it's not uncommon that for at least one of those you'll be assigned to lead a scratch team. Given that Mist knows the weaknesses of the Mori clan and knows that all of us have been adopted into Leaf, I would be surprised if they didn't spring that one on you."
Since there are 72 contestants remaining (out of 300 who entered) there are 228 contestants who have been eliminated from the Chunin Exams. Given the likelihood of a leadership mission happening, and given that you could fit 228 contestants into three groups of 72 (with some left over), the chances of a scratch team being assigned to us, from failed contestants, is very likely. Given that Mist hates Team Goketsu for being traitors etc. etc., it would be exactly like them to "coincidentally" assign a team that doesn't actually add to our skillset (they are basically shittier versions of Hazou/Noburi/Keiko).

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail How many hours do we have, at minimum? 36 hours and 31 hours have been thrown out, not sure which it is.

For comforting Akane, remind her how impressive getting this far is in the first place.
Done, kinda. Not sure if it gets the message across.

My initial thought for trying to preemptively eliminate a few enemy teams:

Bribe the Oyabun to set up a fake event waiting area with fake disguised proctors, put together to be suspiciously deniable (e.g. "there aren't any ninja here, and there's definitely no reason for you to be here in 48 hours") without crossing any lines that would offend the actual proctors. Use a "breach of OPSEC" to "accidentally" let some of the other teams low in the rankings know about it.

If the Oyabun are willing to go for it, it would give them the chance to discreetly get a look at some foreign ninja in a mostly relaxed environment, and there are enough ninja remaining that it should still help Team Uplift even if they only target non-Mist non-Leaf ninja.

@faflec, I'm generally in favour of your plan but uncomfortable with specifically calling to inflict Severe Consequences - that's saying we're ambushing people and breaking their legs or equivalent, which may be technically tournament legal but certainly isn't in the spirit of international cooperation - maybe limit it to draining their Chakra, drugging them, maybe Moderate Consequences (as they're a fair bit less terrible and heal much faster)?

E: Moderate Consequences still take a week to heal, which is enough to screw them in the next event without taking them out of commission for a whole month+.

Didn't someone say the next event was going to be combat focused? On the other hand I suppose that doesn't necessary exclude leadership as well.
