5. Find a non-disguised proctor and ask them how to proceed.

Man, I like this option so much, it's a pity I won't be writing a plan for this update.

I think that we should act in a way that is consistent with us not knowing what the hell is going on. What would we vote for Hazou to do if this was something happening around us? Get out of the crowd to avoid our Henge getting popped, and then try to figure out whether the event is even supposed to continue under these circumstances. Hence why I'm starting to seriously consider just talking to a proctor.

I like that but not as the first action; rather, once things have settled down a little / we see a proctor that doesn't seem immediately occupied.

Ok, so... protoplan.

  1. Hazou will quickly head into the alcohol mist so he can put himself on dirt, allowing him to use Hiding Like a Mole to go underground. He will put on a Tunneler's Friend so that he can breath.
  2. Hazou will then head to a location where he can believes that he can emerge unnoticed by rival contestants, based on his understanding of where all the ninja likely are and will be. (the maze, the wall next to where ST Leaf is, or elsewhere)
  3. Next, Hazou will move to reconnect with Super Team Leaf to update them on the situation. He'll put on a scared civilian act on the way, and not look like he's in too much of a hurry.
  4. Hazou will explain the situation in broad strokes, not implying his actual involvement in the event that proctors are listening in to see if we were involved. Ultimately, this is trying to establish a narrative that ST Leaf avoided being herded as a whole, but sent Hazou to do recon since he had a suitable jutsu to escape the obvious trap. Ex. "Yeah, it was a trap. Glad we didn't fall for that. Someone released some kind of mist from the mansion - alcohol of some kind, I think - and then some idiot on the other side of the crowd threw up an explosive tag and yelled that they were under attack, inciting a panic. I'd hate to be that fool, since he's going to be down thousands of points for all of the DQs when the proctors catch him."

Next steps might be suggesting to have Noburi go to a proctor and ask if there's any civilians that need a med-nin to tend to them in a break room if needed (being a med-nin does give Noburi a better reason to do this than Hazou), or just working with Pimp Daddy Nara to figure out what our next steps are to capitalize on what we have wrought.

Would it be appropriate to Henge into another person/cover identity while escaping, so if we're spotted (but not caught) someone else takes the blame?

Ideally we could make it back to Super Team Leaf without getting seen. Then we just claim we have been with thin the entire time

It is? Damn. Still, it might be worth it if getting spotted is a thing, which IMO it is.
If we do a mild chakra overdraw (penalty for the rest of the day) then we can do it I think.

Edit:

Alternatively once we get to Team Leaf we have Noburi top us off and we re henge in a safe locale

Do we know what Zabuza looks like? Can we Henge normal clones (or just create them in a likeness apriori).

Would be a hell of a distraction.

Yeah, we've seen mirrors before.
But really though, we could create an illusion of him in the mist as a distraction of us frantically diving to the ground just in case the present conditions aren't enough.

Edit: on second thought let's not further complicate our simple and brilliant plan to gtfo

I just realized what Ami's intervention in this update reminds me of: this omake, in which Jiraiya crit-fails a Deception check against Kagome and believes his claims about dead-man switches. Near its end, during a tense social situation, Hazou speaks up with an innocuous suggestion, which causes Jiraiya to conclude that he is the true mastermind.

It nearly perfectly mirrors his reaction to Ami's statement in the aforementioned interlude, which is hilarious. Ami is clearly a fellow protagonist, and I fully support @Roomba's plans to have a dinner with her.

Ok, so, a thought - what if a proctor is already present at the marquee that ST Leaf is at? They're investigating the heat, and our group just happens to be in a zone that's not as hot as the other area, so inevitably there will be questions. What should we do then?

I'm thinking act indignant that some "utter fucking idiot" set off an explosive tag and intentionally panicked a mixed crowd of ninjas and civilians, and authoritatively insist that the proctor prepare a break room for Noburi to be able to apply his medical jutsu to civilians who need medical assistance. If the proctor dares not agree, then ask him "You know who my aunt is, right? You sure you want the Mizukage knowing that you decided harassing Leaf's contestants was more important than the health and safety of the civilians under your care?"

That's why we should head to the hedge maze first. We can slowly peak our heads out underneath a bush to see if the coast is clear and pop out there.

Edit: There's more coverage as well.
