Should probably clear it with Akane first -- it could come off weird to get her dad in on money provided by her technique that she's giving to us.

I'm still confused about why this wouldn't be Akane's money, free and clear. Perhaps splitting it with Noburi if he wanted to supercharge production while she trained her chakra capacity.

"So, what did you do for your summer job?"

"I sat around in a frigid room trying not to piss myself while watching water freeze for twelve hours a day. I was so good at it that I'm now on a perpetual Class B mission and not allowed to leave the village anymore."

My suggestion for a gift to Mari: Brooch (or similar) of aquamarine surrounding ruby. Much symbolic. Thoughts?

This is a good point. Though I will note that, IIRC the technique lasts an hour after it's used, so you don't have to sit around.

I wonder if we can get Kenta a seat on the merchant council? Would be good to have someone loyal watching over them.
It's too bad he's a carpenter (or at least he was before moving to Konoha). I don't think he has that much experience merchanting...though that could have changed. Who knows?
Hmm, I remember the topic of Kagome's list of Jinchuuriki locations being brought up earlier. Do you think we could try and discuss with Kagome and Mari if we should tell Jiraiya about some of Kagome's knowledge?
A good point. I'll see what I can do.

Cradle, though I'll wager that Kagome is already whittling her one.

I think its CP use is rated per hour, but that's not necessarily the same as the effect continuing if it isn't maintained.

Elemental Mastery:
Range: 3 meters + 1 per level
Temperature change: 5C per level
Chakra cost: 3CP per level
Duration: Concentration (hand seals maintained) + 10 min/level. Afterwards, the temperature gradually drifts back to normal.

The plan.
[X] Action Plan: Coming Home

Summary:
  • Report/debrief with the Hokage.
  • Take time to recover.
  • Socialize.
  • Plan for Mari-sensei's birthday.
  • Discuss (with Mari-sensei) telling Jiraiya about Kagome's knowledge.
  • Research & train.
Non-Binding Suggestions:
  • Report/debrief with the Hokage.
    • Give him full intel of everything that's happened since our last face-to-face report.
    • Tell Keiko/Kagome about the story Leaf's presenting to the world.
      • Make sure the room is secure, for obvious reasons.
      • Let Akane or Noburi recount the details.
  • Take time to recover.
    • Hazou and Noburi are poisoned with B-class wounds. Go to the hospital, or whatever equivalent Jiraiya approves.
    • The team (well, Hazou at the least) is traumatized from having killed dozens of civilian sailors. Ask if we can do something like therapy.
      • Kagome in particular has an ocean's worth of demons in his closet. Discuss this privately with Mari-sensei or Jiraiya, and then broach the subject with him.
  • Socialize.
    • Make sure Jiraiya and/or Mari-sensei clears these things, based on our technical missing-nin status/rocking the boat.
    • Dinner with Akane's family.
      • Make sure they're cleared to know that we're Leaf-nin now (otherwise the whole thing is pointless).
      • Don't rub it in Daddy Ishihara's face that we managed to do the impossible within the space of a month.
      • Be polite and keep a lid on your temper.
      • Discuss cornering the ice market in Konoha using Elemental Mastery.
        • Clear this with Akane AND Jiraiya first, in private.
        • Maybe this would get Kenta a seat on the merchant council?
    • Make some new ninja friends our age.
      • See if Akane or Mari-sensei know some (new) people we could meet.
      • damnit what the fuck does Hazou like doing in his spare time? Killing people is out, sealing is gonna fly over nearly everyone's head...
    • See if we can meet with Team Guy again.
      • MAKE SURE JIRAIYA APPROVES. BECAUSE GUY IS APPARENTLY POLITICAL POISON. SOMEHOW.
      • Philosophy discussion with Guy.
      • Sparring session with Lee.
      • Keiko can chill with Tenten, they have a really good thing going on.
  • Make plans for Mari-sensei's birthday.
    • Her birthday is in a month. A MONTH.
    • Possible suggestions:
      • Wedding dress/necklace or similar.
      • Brooch of aquamarine surrounding ruby.
      • Tessen, sword, or similar.
      • A day shopping (at our expense)?
  • Discuss (with Mari-sensei) telling Jiraiya about Kagome's knowledge.
    • Make sure all of this is done privately.
    • Specifically, discuss Akatsuki-related information and the locations of jinchuriki.
    • Only do it with Mari-sensei's approval.
      • What we know:
        • Akatuski originated in the Land of Rain. (this is the important part)
        • They wrote a book of some sort.
        • They were scattered in some fight where Hanzo of the Salamander got killed.
      • Why it's important now.
        • You (Jiraiya) mentioned that Akatsuki might have some sort of weather-control ability.
        • When we first entered the Land of Rain (post-Liberator) Noburi noticed chakra in the rain, which came as if out of nowhere.
        • The Land of Rain is where (Kagome thinks) Akatsuki originated.
      • Conclusion: Is it possible that your paranoia is correct, and that Akatsuki has been tracking our team using this chakra-rain ability?
      • Nine-Tails: Captured by Akatsuki
      • Eight-Tails: Cloud
      • Seven-Tails: ???
      • Six-Tails: ???
      • Five-Tails: Bear
      • Four-Tails: ???
      • Three-Tails: Captured by Akatsuki
      • Two-Tails: Demon (?)
      • One-Tails: Sand
  • Research & train.
    • DO THE TRAINING PLANS PLEASE WE HAVE SO MUCH XP TO BURN.
    • Research with Noburi: Chakra quantification
      • We don't know if there's been research into this; ask him.
        • Improve combat efficiency.
        • Gives ability for non-sensors to measure their chakra levels.
        • Gives ability for ninja to determine minimum chakra levels to use techniques.
        • Gives ability for ninja to calculate chakra usage during combat (techniques and/or chakra boost).
        • Standardize the "chakra point".
        • Determine amount of chakra used when "chakra boosting" or casting a jutsu.
        • Determine effects of skill on "chakra boosting" or casting a jutsu.
    • Sealing research w/ Kagome:
      • Basic book/Nara seals.
      • Casino seals.
      • Hidden Mountain seals.
      • Lesser Barrier Formation.
      • Goo Bomb seals.
      • Impulse seals.

@faflec On the matter of hobbies for Hazou that we can reasonably find other people for, we could always look into shogi? Shikamaru probably still plays it, and while we certainly won't beat him, he might enjoy having someone around who's willing to play him who isn't another Nara.

Why are we trying to micromanage Noburi?

Also, ice production is going to be unreliable if the users are on missions.
Maybe ally with one of the current ice merchants then, have them drive off the competition or something. If the Hyuga are our competitors it would be to our benefit to do this stuff.

Noburi is likely to do this of his own accord and has expressed significant disapproval of our attempts to be helpful in this area in the past.
If there's one thing that the hivemind is bad at, it's political plotting. Also, Noburi can take care of himself dealing with Kabuto. He doesn't need us.
If we don't include it in a plan it won't get done. That's just how the quest works

@Kiba sadly now that we are leaf we have to get good a plotting. The games changed

You have to explain how our plotting would improve Noburi's success.

We got Mari-sensei and Jiraiya to cover our weakness. Without a shitload of context, we just don't have what it take to win at the game. And politics is going to be tiresome.

I disagree. We may have the most initiative out of the group but Noburi isn't an NPC idling around until we trigger a quest marker or something silly like that.

What did Noburi do to advance our goals before we left leaf on the spy network mission? As far as I can tell he just sat around. Maybe he did a ton of things of camera. That didn't get us any actionable information. If something is included in a plan it is much more likely to happen on screen where we can use that info. I am not content to just sit around and let things happen. We have to push if we want to influence the world.

Because we couldn't do anything but sit around until a crisis hit us and Leaf over.

Noburi is going to do his thing and become a medical researcher. He will probably get the chance to work with Kabuto, and he will likely do it better than our harebrained schemes.

Basically: Trust Noburi to do his thing. We don't need to micromanage every tiny details.

Keiko is probably the only person who lack initiative, but I am sure the Nara clan has plenty of things for her to do.

The best way to help Noburi is to offer him research ideas. I'm interested to see how the QMs will do quantifying chakra.

I give less than 1:20 odds at this point that Jiraiya was the mastermind behind Minami's death here, and would happily take a bet at those odds.

I would be willing to bet up to $100 CAD at those odds, but I would recommend a much smaller bet. It certainly looks like that shouldn't be a problem, as long as it doesn't happen regularly on SV, and it's clear that it's a personal wager that they in no way endorse. (I wonder if Bayesian-rationalists could successfully claim that betting is a religious practice?)

Some suggestions

* Only word of QM settles the bet, not in-story information that could be misleading.
* Neither of us acts to try to recover information pertinent to the case, or even mentions it, while the bet is on.
* After two months, the bet is off.
* The bet is off if a QM or staff-member says it's off.
* If we both agree the bet is off, the bet is off (obviously).
* Breach of the rules listed here, or of failure to pay, should be punished with at least a year of no-thread-participation, at QM's discretion.

Realistically, we're probably just not going to find out in the next two months. People's financial situation change, so I'm not comfortable committing to a bet for longer than two months.

Instead of a sword, why not get her some chains or combat rated ninja wire. Something she can tease our Clan Leader with rather than a reminder of the combat aspect of her life that she gave up.
