Omake: The Darkest Timeline
"Water Element: Eternal Lullaby Technique!"
...
A prepared jounin.
...
So they didn't know her capabilities. She didn't know theirs either.
...
"Houzuki's Mantle!"
...
Minami's sword clattered against the floor.
...
A prepared enemy. A prepared jounin. She wouldn't have engaged them unless she knew she would win.
Hazou abandoned all thought of conventional combat.
...
He forced his brain to work through the growing haze. They needed defenses. Something strong. Something fast to make. Something that didn't let her out of their sight.
Air domes.
"Noburi, you trigger them!"
...
"We're breathing poison gas."
...
Purifier seals.
...
Tunneller's Friend.
...
There was still no sound when he looked back up.
Think! How have I killed enemies in the past.
Oh, right. Air domes blocked sound. He knew that.
Can't out punch her, can't explode past the airdome, and we're indoors anyways.
But he could still see the jounin. As he watched, she gave them a leisurely round of applause.
Can't drain her, no mist'll get past the airdome. Indoors stops most of our tricks anyways.
Then, with catlike grace, she stalked over to Minami's body, and dipped a finger in the pool of blood acumulating around her neck.
Wait! Indoors. We've killed a Jounin indoors before.
Hazou watched, entranced, as the Jounin's hand moved slowly across the wall.
Breaking himself from his spell, he looked around the room.
Yeah, it's small enough.
When she was finished, she turned around and blew Hazou a kiss with that same bloodstained hand.
Hazou steeled himself and drew from all his chakra reserves, forming the familiar handseals.
"Doton: Multiple Earth Style Wall!"
The jounin bolted into action as she sprinted towards the door. Chakra granite rose from the ground, lifting everything aside from the airdome like a pedestal. Tables, chairs, Minami, and the jounin were all lifted.
She was going to reach the door!
But her own preparations were her undoing. By the time she reached the door, the lock was covered by granite, and it wouldn't budge. Hazou's view was cut off as granite encompassed everything around them.
"Noburi... a little chakra... please?" Hazou gasped out.
"Right."
Noburi poured Hazou some water which he greedily drank. Relishing the feeling of the foreign chakra filling his coils.
After a few moments had passed, Hazou and Noburi began to strategize.
"Alright, so we don't know where she is. Our goals are to escape alive, and take Minami's body with us. If MEW killed her, we can take the Jounin's body too. But if we don't see her when the chakra constructs fade, we'll need to assume she's still up and waiting in ambush. Actually..."
"Doton: Living Roots!"
"What do you see Hazou?"
"Uh... probably should have practiced this jutsu. I got nothing." Hazou said awkwardly.
"Worth a shot. What else we got?"
Hazou began frantically pulling out seals.
"Well, ear-busters for one. The moment the dome drops, we should activate the ear-busters and have banshee slayers activated. Also, we're going to need to retrieve Minami's body and bust out without the jounin killing us. Think you can have clones appear outside and activate a larger air dome using Minami's seals?"
"Got it."
"Actually, what if they activate misterators, then put up an airdome so you can drain through it?"
"Nice. I like it."
-x-x-x-
The granite finally disappeared, revealing a determined Hazou and Noburi, a pulpified Minami and apparently crushed jounin.
Can't be too careful.
"Suiton: Water Clone!"
A pair of Nobui look alikes appeared next to Minami's body. The grabbed misterators, fired them, then activated a larger air dome around Hazou and Noburi.
"Nice!"
Hazou took down the air dome seal and Noburi rushed to the mist.
"Nobody else's chakra is in here."
"Good. Let's check Minami and the attacker's bodies."
"Uh... Hazou? They're pretty mushy. Not sure we'll find anything helpful."
"Always worth a check. Besides, we need to grab Minami's skywalkers, and should at least retrieve the message scroll. Maybe we'll find a clue as to who she was."
After taking Minami's seals and storing her body, Hazou carefully walked towards the Jounin's body. First, he noticed the proportions. The woman must have been under henge. Her body was smaller now, a little shorter. Her hair was also stained red with blood. As he looted through her sleeve for the scroll, a glint caught his attention. Around her neck he saw a twisted and battered iron pendant with three gemstones. The garnet had cracked and looked close to falling out.
With trembling hands, Hazou reached out and picked it up. A battered covering fell off revealing the inscription.
Akage no Ha
"Dispel! Dispel! Dispel!"
Mari's body only blurred as tears ran down Hazou's face.
