Luckily we already have a seal that solves that problem. The casino seals take an outside input from some unknown distance and produce an effect. In this case molding chakra and producing a noise and lights. Now if we want we could design a seal that instead of sensing molding chakra to generate an output we could just have it detect a certain amount or type of chakra being emitted. If we do that we can break the action economy that governs combat. We can create air domes without having to have them on our hands. We can trigger a stack of mistarators at once without having to waste action on them. We can pair earbusters and banshee slayer to activate at the same time. We could remotely trigger huge traps of explosives. We could remote communication seals for squad based combat. Really this one invention starts to push us very close to s rank in combat.

I believe I have made my objections to this type of comment clear.
What do we plan on doing on the midterm? Minami's death does not reflect well on us, especially because it's so suspicious to the political enemies of Jiraiya. How do we mitigate this politically? What crazy science projects should we do now?
My answer to the question is to give a report immediately, and to emphasize how Minami's death was tragic and unavoidable. Mention in the combat reports that she was quite possibly the only reason we're still alive, because she revealed how dangerous our opponent was in close combat. We would have followed her in a split second later, but her sacrifice enabled us to escape with her body and equipment.
That should mitigate things slightly, and Jiraiya might be able to spin Minami as a martyr who embodied the Will of Fire and nudge nudge wink wink Minami clan isn't Minami such a good role model?
As for crazy science I'm starting to lean towards point defense system in the short term, or at least quick activate Air Dome or Force Wall, with some sort of alignment jig built in so that we can activate it with a moment's thought.

Jiraiya and Mari can probably spin this pretty well. Social games are their thing.

I've suggested this before, but I think we should invent a bunch of Simple Machine type seals that we can then use as standardised parts in composite seal-machines.
Especially seals that store or manipulate data, (eg. "store 0 or 1, flip your bit if you get a chakra pulse", "check the stored bit in the connected seal, output chakra if the result is 1", or "output chakra to the output seal if either of the input seals are inputting chakra") that we can use to build calculators, and other computermajigs out of.

This may not be a good idea depending on how big seals are - a seal based Babbage Engine might end up bigger than the actual Babbage Engine with less computing power and a far higher risk of ZK events (read: end of reality events). What may be worth considering is creating a sealing language based around prints, because we can make smaller prints than we can make safe calligraphy.
We know that seals can be made as small as a thumbnail.
EDIT: Also, seals only ZK at two precise times: if you fail when researching them, or if you fail when infusing them. Once a seal is infused, it works as intended and doesn't do anything weird if you don't do anything weird to it (from what we've seen in-story).

We might actually want to avoid revolutionizing things for a while. Doing more ordinary sealmaster things would help keep expectations of us from skyrocketing and would help show people that we can integrate into their society instead of standing apart as 'that crazy genius sealmaster'.
That said, there are a good few 'ordinary' sealmaster things we can work on that can end up quite helpful later on. Once we finish cleaning up house (learning Jiraiya's Seals, the Mountain Seals, etc.) I think we can get good mileage out of modifying the Purifier seals. A seal to separate salt from water is a good mid-term goal that has clear and direct benefits in the form of turning salt water into drinkable fresh water and salt, which should be valuable in this era, and by making Purifier variants we pave the road to developing chemistry through separating materials into base components.

What is the difference between an ABC relay and a modular seal? Well first, we need to explain why modular seals are untenable.
Some possibilities
* Chakra isn't like electricity, the operations it goes through changes it, in ways that can't be reversed easily. Think dirty power, but it's not just voltage and amps you need to worry about, it's "colour" and "spin" and "flavour". You need to complete re-do a "circuit" to account for those power differences, and use completely different set of techniques if you chakra is up-spin or muonic-flavoured.
* Seals don't exist in 2 dimensions. They're holographic. You can physically stack seals as long as their chakra systems don't interact, but once they do, you need to make sure that your seal isn't self-interacting in the higher dimensions.
* Like above, but you can't stack activated seals. The interact with one another anyway. This also has some interesting combat potential, as for was disabling enemy seals goes. Although I suppose if could fall under the heading of "weaponizing sealing failures".
If you want the QM's to accept this, when kagome has already vetoed modular seals, you're going to have to do a bit of leg work.
Personally, I think using physical (noise, light, etc) signaling to create modular seals makes a lot of sense though.

Actually Minami's death doesn't play badly for us. It only seems at all suspicious because of information that only team uplift and Jiraiya where privy to. I think we need to bind clan Minami closer to us with bribes and offering them vengeance. Show them that clan Jiraiya always pays there debts.
As for mad science we can break that down into seal research and medical research.
For seal research I recommend going down the casino seal tech tree. That way we can start developing remotely triggered seals and sensor seals at the same time
For the Medical research I want to get Noburi to start trying to figure out vaccines. There is folk knowledge that certain diseases can only be caught once. Once he confirms that we can start looking into similar diseases granting immunity. I also think we should try to get Kabuto into the clan.
Another thing we can do is start trying increase our clans economic power. I really like the idea of using our ability to produce ice and storage scrolls to create a hole new market in fire country. We then use those profits to improve fires infrastructure and hire ninja to cull chakra beast along trade routes. As well as starting to higher workers to begin the zeppelin project.
Another political alliance we can potentially form is with the Kurosawa relation with the Uchiha clan. We can start by just playing up the family angle and once again reinterate how clan Jiraiya always pays there debts. We can also create an additional point of influence when we rescue Hana. If she is willing to play the political game with us she has huge value as a former clan heir who is a combat specced jounin who can potentially have children that will have the sharingan. All things that could potentially make a political marriage to a surviving member of the Uchiha work

I really like the purifier route. Especially for mining. Since they are reusable we could potentially economically change iron's position by reopening there mines

I'd...uh...rather not focus on family with the Uchiha. Recall that the Kurosawa Clan exists because an Uchiha chose love (for a foreigner) over his family, and I would not be surprised in the slightest if the Uchiha were still smarting over the whole affair.
Honestly I'd imagine the Uchiha clan to hate Jiraiya's clan and only ever let up if he allowed Hazou/Hana to be adopted into their clan (read: too high of a worthwhile concession). Or if Jiraiya single-handedly kills Itachi and brings his body back to the Uchiha for -whatever they do to clan traitors-.

I'd just like to see civilian usable storage-seals on the market.
Rifles made archery obsolete, not because early rifles were better, but because they required next to no training. Don't underestimate civilians once they start getting better tools.
There's no reason civilians can't manufacture seal blanks that I know of, and the fact that ninja aren't using civilian labour for that, when their lives are already so cheap, is pretty silly. It certainly looks like a hundred civilians with a few levels in seal drawing could change the tide of a war.
The quickest way to expand your personal competency is to hire a few employees.

The reason civilians aren't making seal blanks is because they won't be necessary for the dangerous step: infusing the seal blank. You need the sealmaster to do that, and they have to be within touching distance of the seal. Which has to be perfect, or it blows up and kills you and that's if you're lucky.

Edit: About the Uchiha, there just aren't any significant ninja left in their clan, from what I understand. This means after seven years of being treated like cash cows, their alliance might end up being pretty worthless, less than the paper it's written on.
