The other reason why we're letting the pledge stand is for Kagome. He needs to really learn the consequences of his actions, and as per the previous chapter, it's also for his own self esteem and image. Hopefully his pledge will tide it over until Minami also stands to benefit from covering up the information, as well as needing to do it subtly (having Kagome show up out of the blue is going to raise a lot of awkward questions as to why, many of them involving a Yamanaka).

Of course, hoping that Minami and their clan will try to be subtle about it is basically not going to work, because everyone except Minami in Minami's clan is going to have an incentive to make Kagome spill what he did and then execute him anyway (because there's going to be a Kagome equivalent that says the only valid response to a threat to a family member is to kill everyone that threatened them and their family, then salt the fields), but that's for another time.

The other problem with including it in the report is invariably it's going to go through some desk chunin or reviewed by Minami herself, in which case we create the exact situation that we were sent out on a several month mission to avoid.

Also, I really dislike my plan right now, and am tempted to scrap it, given the low amount of responses and poor focus of it.

The thing you miss is that Keiko has a direct line with Jiraya - The summoning realm.

Telling her to update on this stuff without info for Minami IS going to give us a safety net if our plans to this day don't work out and end up blowing up in our faces, making us go *Boom*, *Splat* and gone. Your way of counter-argumenting me does seem like it's your plan (To eventualy get a plan blow up in our faces with fatal consequences), but i don't really have a say in your objectives.

We should cash-in on our ability to contact Jiraya Any Second, without need to go by other channels, his subordinates and - Especially - Minami. It really is that simple - We tell keiko to send a message with how stuff went down-hill with a warning that when we come back, stuff might spin out of control. Therefore, i still stand by my point - We should Send a mail to Jiraya through Summon-realm and make sure he's not getting hit in his blind spot due to our position and things we were supposed to achieve by going on this exact mission - Mainly :

A - Getting out of Leaf politics, as we are ineffective in proper ninja-ninja communication, making it harder to manouver in those unstable times.

B - Transfering information and helping those who give us the information.

By sending him a fore-warning, even if it's a false alarm, we'll make sure that we don't fudge up Point A - Getting out of Leaf Politics, to let Jiraya work. And information ALWAYS helps, Even if not directly.

Besides, us sending a message to Jiraya doesn't mean that Kagome can't learn on his mistakes. It just makes it so that when they(Evil Minami-like Clans) try to block us up in a situation where the only answer Kagome has is "Blow Up Leaf and RUN! They are going to try to Lock Us Up In Seal-Factory-Prison-Thingy and make the rest of the team go *Boom* *Splat*!", Jiraya can come and save our painfully kicked asses.

Except the real problem with anyone knowing this at all is that Jiraiya already has a dangerously low level of support. If anything interjects, any conceivable thing becomes a political scandal, than Jiraiya's job gets harder. At this point in time, Jiraiya's every move is likely heavily scrutinized for any possible vulnerability - Jiraiya really can't do much except yell at us for doing something so stupid because any action he takes will draw more scrutiny.

The problem here is there is no safety net, not while Leaf is busy recovering from the loss of the Sandaime and organizing a manhunt while also desperately trying to project force. Jiraiya can't really afford to take any action to help us here, not when he needs to repair foreign relations and make absolutely no mistakes in asserting himself as a viable Hokage, especially after his rather poor showing at the meeting where he was selected. Jiraiya really can't save our asses, because any attacks on us are really attacks against him, and any more attacks against him would basically spell the end of our clan, if not the entire Leaf village.

For what it's worth, I'd rather we not talk about how to infiltrate Jiraiya's network, or at the very least reword it to something less tactless. Something along the lines of:
  • Express worry about spies in Tea.
    • If pressed (e.g., why are you worried about Jiraiya's contacts/being paranoid now), point out that we've been in Tea before, and met Jiraiya's contacts and taken (bad) jobs before.
      • Three of Jiraiya's contacts are in Tea's capitol; high chance anyone trying to ferret out spies would be here.
    • Ask Kagome (based on his crypto knowledge) where spies reporting in would be hiding/situated relative to their target, and how they'd gather information on the target.
    • Ask Kagome how he'd go about finding and/or exposing said hypothetical spies based on said knowledge.
      • Make modifications based on our situation (we don't want to be exposed either).
@huhYeahGoodPoint Go ahead and copy this if you want.

I mean, this is part of why I'm tempted to toss the entire plan out the window - it doesn't do anything particularly well.

In that case, why don't we do the exact opposite? Instead of focusing on the people while leaving the mission in the background, make scenes focused on the mission while keeping people things in the background. Like...make a scene where Kagome leads a conversation with a contact, or a scene where Hazou and Akane have lunch while contacting one of the waiters at a restaurant.

Regardless of if Jiraya can help us or not we should still tell him what happened, because it might help *him* prepare for whatever consequences there might be for him or his clan (i.e. us). It's not like he won't eventually find out anyway once we're back. So honestly, what's the benefit of not informing him as soon as possible? Do you think he can't handle the distraction? Or are you afraid that he's gonna have Kagome assassinated or something?

Wait, something's wrong with the formatting?

Er, the QMs get to the winning plan by looking at the first vote for it, which should be the plan itself. I think, since you didn't vote for it but I then did, the QMs will be directed to my vote for a plan instead of the plan itself.

I'm not sure how things stand on Counterbot and editing posts right now, but if you edit your plan to a proper vote for it and then cancel your vote now it might work out. Otherwise I'll just edit a link to the plan into my vote post.

Mostly because that requires us to do setup work in the form of a plan to ask our team leader, and spread out over a longer period of time dampens the rewards, I'm pretty sure.

I can't really think of any good reason why we'd want to talk research with Kagome first instead of talking to Minami in the circle, but I don't know what to talk with Minami about. However, I'd rather a fleshed out conversation with Minami and maybe some notes about what research we do with Kagome, so there's that. Either way, we have a few more messages to drop with Jiraiya, and then want to get permission from Akane, so there's that.

[X] Action Plan: Bracing For Tea
  1. Continue the mission as per previous protocol
    1. Trust our instincts, especially if they start screaming to shove our feet in our mouths
    2. If we have to tell Person A something about Person B that person B doesn't already know Person A knows, clear it with person B.
    3. Follow previous precedent and orders from Minami
      1. Do not reuse Henge, but keep it up when teammates do not make up all of the people who can conceivably see us.
      2. Send regular messages to Jiraiya via the Pangolins. If Akatsuki appears, tell Keiko to delve into Frozen Skein just long enough to come up with a plan to escape without her providing fire support, and then have her reverse summon. Have her report to Jiraiya immediately.
      3. Let Minami decide team composition and how to approach contacts.
      4. If any enemy ninja or action is spotted, report it to Minami immediately unless we have a clear and compelling reason to do otherwise.
    4. Ask around for rumors about Mist and Water Country, but do it with all the subtlety that we can use and still get usable information.
  2. A comedic scene of Hazou digging through his set of nigh infinite storage seals to see everything that we have in there would be appreciated, but if the GMs don't have the bandwidth a summary of his complete inventory would work too.
  3. Ask Keiko whether the pangolin mission failed or was scrapped thanks to the utter domination of the pangolins over the condors, since we apparently failed to do so last time.
  4. We'd like Jiraiya's input on a few things as we send progress reports via pangolins
    1. Most pertinent and time sensitive will be Akane's icemaking abilities and how we can leverage that, but this is dependent on Akane's approval/ whether we had a chat with Akane.
    2. Ask him what he's heard out of Mist and whether a Hana extraction mission is possible.
      1. If it is, is that mission time-sensitive?
    3. Ask the entire team sans Minami if they want to tell Jiraiya what happened. A single veto will result in none of us sending the message.
      1. If approved, inform Jiraiya of what's happened vis a vis our sealmaster and team captain. Jiraiya will be able to read between the lines.
    4. Lastly, leave a note for Mari asking how she's doing, and just touch base with her in general. Sort of like a field trip letter in that you kinda don't mention anything bad on the trip. That can wait for the reports.
  5. Ask Akane whether she'd be okay telling Minami about her ability to create ice, and with selling some ice to merchants.
    1. (definitely not a thinly veiled excuse to hang out with Best Girlfriend, no matter what anyone says and what the rainbow genjutsu indicates)
  6. Talk with Minami. We're aiming to brief her on everything we know, and get some information about the places we're headed.
    1. Brief her on Akane's ability to create ice, and ask whether it'd be a good idea to sell or otherwise use this over the course of our mission.
      1. Only do this if Akane approves
    2. Inform her that we're going to be asking around for rumors of Mist because our mom's there, mostly because our mom means a whole lot to us.
      1. Reassure her that Jiraiya already knows how much we care about mom, and it won't unduly impair our performance on mission.
    3. Ask her whether Jiraiya gave us any information about the other locations we're visiting.
      1. Are there any different customs that we need to be aware of ?
      2. What kind of threats do we need to watch out for? Just because we killed basically every kind of hostile in Fire and Iron doesn't mean we've done the same in Bear.
      3. Is there anything that Jiraiya particularly wants us to pick up as delicacies over there? Our endless pile of storage seals means that we can also trade for stuff.
  7. SCIENCE talk with Kagome
    1. Can we reduce the LBF down to a single seal and only require a chakra pulse to activate?
      1. Can we make the activator seal trigger on proximity detection? Would that be simpler than the single seal LBF?
      2. Can we make a different activator seal that triggers based on the activation of a paired seal? (whoever came up with the ARF, this is all you)
        1. Note: This is different from the LBF because there's no chakra tripwire, and the activation pulse will work in any direction, without requiring the chakra tripwire to be perfectly aligned.
      3. How difficult would such a seal be to infuse?
    2. Can we make seals that activate upon tearing? The idea is like the implosion seals that we've used before.
    3. How dangerous would it be to mount Force Barriers on Fuma Shurikens to act like invisible Wind Release: Vacuum Blade? How much for regular shurikens? What about a set of force barriers, placed to sharpen to an edge or point?
    4. Can we check out the Mountain seals? Have we already? What did they do?
    5. Can we make a scaled up Skywalker Seal with only a single seal and fixed radius Air Dome?
      1. Take an airdome, activate via chakra adhesion, and make it have a fixed radius and one seal only.
    6. Really crazy idea - if we used a bunch of seals to delimit a volume of chakra water very precisely, would it be possible to seal that chakra water? Would we be able to unseal it safely?

@eaglejarl @Velorien @OliWhail Does Minami know about Akane's ability to make ice, and if so, has she suggested that we do anything with it? Does Jiraiya know about Akane's ability to make ice?

I believe (but don't recall precisely, because of travel and thread absences) that you guys had made ice on the way to Sand?

Well, I think you need to take each bloodline on a case by case basis. Noburu's bloodline isn't genetic, it's surgical. It probably can't be used, but deserves a test.
His bloodline is actually genetic (or at least, as genetic as other bloodlines - you don't know whether there are actual genes for them). The surgery scene in his interlude was a separate issue.

Things I'd like to research. Hopefully this is the kind of stuff the GM's would appreciate, but if doing science like this is annoying to them instead of rewarding, and they'd prefer a goal-oriented approach (I want to make skywalkers) instead of a research oriented approach, that's perfectly reasonable.

Can we store chakra water in seals at all?

You seem to be able to store some amount of bound chakra in storage seals. Chakra infused venom doesn't obviously lose potency. This has the potential to solve a lot of Noburu's problems and be completely broken. Is it an issue of potency? Does stored chakra degrade at some kind of inverse-cube law? Do overlapping storage "bubbles" all count towards one chakra-storage pool, so you can't just use a bunch of seals?

Why can't civilians use Chakra?

It is a matter of generation, storage, or manipulation? If we're really lucky it's storage, and we can feed them chakra water regularly.

Either way, simply feeding civilians some chakra water, hoping they don't explode, and having Noburu monitor that, would go a long way. Part of a tech tree including chakra extraction technology?

How does the air-freshener seel get around the boundary limitation?

As we know, storage seals need to draw a "boundary" around an object in order to store them. We have one big exception, and that's the air freshener seel, which pulls impurities out of the air. Figuring out how that works and how we can adapt it to other projects is important. Imagine a metal-refining seal that pulls pure iron out of raw rock (If it's based on filtering). Or a sword-seal that pulls chunks out of whatever is in front of it (if it's based on some kind of geometric definition). Or even just the knowledge that molecules exist, if it's based around pulling in individual molecules.

---

So, "Science!" or a goal-oriented approach? It's easy to write yourself into a corner if we use science, as you set more and more precedents that lead to more powerful discoveries. That can be fun too though.

As far as Hazou knows, it's all three - learning to manipulate your chakra is a process of several years even if you start as a child, civilians don't have as much as ninja (which hampers their ability to feel and therefore manipulate it), and learning to manipulate one's chakra is necessary for performing chakra-building exercises.

It occurred to me while meditating on the nature of certain seals that paired seals are often used to delineate the effective range of a seal. Air Domes, Lesser Barrier Formation, and Force Barrier all share this effect.

Kagome previously decried the possibility of a chakra storage seal because there would be no way to delimit it. Well, what if we made the chakra storage seals paired (or perhaps set in a trio of seals: two to delineate the effects of it, and one to actually store the chakra)?

I'm also kind of reticent to talk to Minami directly about Hana unless it's couched in the "Hokage-sama already knows about this" kind of way.
