I also suspect that travelling with a caravan would provide opportunities to rob cities more often than piracy would provide oppurtunities to rob other ships.

I see we're back in "let's be evil" mode. Lord knows, simple commerce can't be a thing. Nope, need to get back to the slave-taking, the criminal-thug-being, the stealing...well, at least you aren't a life sucking zombie Frankenstein monster.

That is oddly specific.

Did we roll Kakuzu on our random encounter table?

Because he is totally a life sucking zombie Frankenstein monster

Since the deadline is tomorrow let's start about writing up a plan, yeah? I think most people (who are being serious) want us to be merchant-nin or something of that type, so...?

No, but during character creation people were proposing bloodlines like "siphon life force", "suck souls", "acid blood", and <sarcasm> my personal favorite </sarcasm> "be a Frankenstein monster made of pieces of swamp monsters".

Eh, can't really blame them. There is a bunch of guys with that sort of powers in Naruto. Some of them bloodlines. Kakuzu and Orochimaru are only the peak of the body horror iceberg and compared to them acid blood is tame.

It was the details that really made it though. For example frankenstein's swamp monster had to rot and ooze and replace limbs every so often. I believe the soul sucking involved tormenting ones enemiesvictims until they broke and gave you a powerup, and I think I remember a self-harm bloodline. They got vetoed because gross.

I think our rough plan is something along the lines of:

Flee fire (Grass/Waterfall/Iron) ---> Train basic infiltration skills & secure basic necessities ---> Go to second country and establish cover identity. ---> Decide from there.

[X] Go to Iron first, search for a secure hideout where Inoue can train us, near a small town with which we can eventually trade our goods.

Reasoning: Iron is close and it has few ninja. This makes it likely that Leaf is not paying the Fire-Iron border much attention, hopefully allowing us to leave the country without getting spotted by their Clan bullshit, which could lead to getting Zabuza back on our ass.

Grass and Waterfall are also probably watching their borders like hawks since they'd be fools to trust their much more powerful neighbor, so Iron is really the only choice if we want to get out of Fire ASAP.

Its closeness also means that they likely have local steelbacks, making it not as suspicious to sell our wares there.

If we go to the other side of the continent where those hogs aren't native, selling fresh steelback meat and brines is going to make people suspect that we are ninja.

If Kanoha sensor teams spot us, noping out to Iron is the best way to say 'we are very sorry and leaving as fast as we can, please do not kill is and leave unsightly blood stains that some poor chunin will have to clean up' via our actions.

Here's an example plan. I can update it tonight if people want refinement, but won't be available for a few hours. Basic idea is to do something that leaves most of our options open, removes us from immediate threats, and uses our XP.

[X] Plan Iron Chunin

Go to Iron, find an abandoned mineshaft or otherwise non-peopled place to set up a fallback camp. Use the XP we have to train up the following stats:
Awareness 5 - [5]
Stealth 5 - [10]
Deception 2 - [12]
Transformation 2 - [14]

Prepare to make contact with a nearby village. Eventual plan may include contact with a village, or taking command of a village, or going somewhere else, depending on what seems best after we arrive. For now, we just make a backup camp somewhere and spend our XP. If possible, we'll use this area to gain experience and level up to approximately Chunnin level at least before enacting any plans.

Yeah, but they will most likely inform Mist that there were ninja leaving Fire country near the Swamp within a short timeframe before their stamping out of Hidden Deathswamp, given that they were so buddy-buddy with each other during that entire operation. Then we will have to deal with Mist hunternin searching for us.

[] Merchant time: Rivers, Waterfalls, Iron
-Our goal is to get to the country of choice without getting spotted. Discussing with Keiko and Inoue should give us an idea of which of these countries it is safest to get to without getting seen. Given the choice (approximately even chance of getting noticed for each country) we will prefer to go to Rivers due to its trade partners (Sand and Fire) and items (exotic goods/wood). But if any of these countries is significantly easier to get into safely we choose that over getting to a high-trade country. We prioritize survival over positioning, since we can fix positioning later.
-Once we get into this country we want to find a group of merchants traveling and selling their goods. We can choose to pose as hunters, traders, and/or mercenaries (or some combination); thus trading supplies/gold/information for protection. If our merchant group wants to move to other countries (e.g., Iron->Waterfall) we can discuss going with them when that happens. Over time we want to take over this group of merchants by pushing ourselves as leaders. Inoue is a master of infiltration and will be most competent with dealing with this step.
-While we find and adapt to our cover story our second priority is to grow as ninjaspend XP. We recommend to our teammates that they should focus on stealth/awareness *cough*Noburi*cough* as well as social and transformation skills, which we need to maintain our skills if Inoue is not present. Radvic proposed spending our current points which I will post below:
Awareness 5 - [5]
Stealth 5 - [10]
Deception 2 - [12]
Transformation 2 - [14]
-As we travel from location to location we want to steal things that are of actual value to us as ninjas. Medicinal herbs, seals, ninja tools, scrolls and paper: basically anything we can find and keep on our person without being noticed. Recall we have and can use a storage scroll to hide the most damning evidence (seals, technique/summoning scrolls...). We try to not attract too much attention, though.

Any particular things we should add to this alternate proposal? I want us to debate which plan is the best, not have us flounder any more.

Rivers is a poor choice for our immediate destination, simply because of how much of fire (those guys with the sensors, sensors, and more sensors) we'd have to traverse. Grass and Waterfall seem to be the most immediately accessible from our current position, with Iron only slightly more out of our way, but it's weakness is making it appealing. Considering it is weak, and not part of an alliance against Fire (like Waterfall), it probably is a more porous border, now that I think about it...

@faflec

We should also try to prove our worth as leaders to the merchants in the mid term, so that we can turn them into minions when we decide to reveal our ninjaness.

Probably a good idea to target trade routes that trade seals. We could always use more blank designs.

And let's not forget committing robbery in the cities the caravan stops at.

@Diomedon Grass is so powerful it isn't one of the bitches of major hidden villages and is actually considered the minor village 'leader'. I do not agree with risking ourselves in that way. But I do agree that Rivers is not the best choice; it's a location that we'll take only if it's safe to do so (hence my convoluted discussion on safety vs. value).

@MadScientist Agreed, but I'm not sure how we would actually get seal information without getting sus'd out, since seals seem to be a ninja-only thing. Will add with an * to talk with Inoue about this.

I dislike binding ourselves to those merchants. It seems risky to travel with others since our social skills aren't up to snuff and won't be up to snuff until we get a whole lot more XP. Plus, travelling with them means we can't train much or at all unless we want to blow our cover and if we'll have to fight they'll find out our identities and we have to kill them. I much prefer plan Iron Chunin.

I like the idea of a crash course in blending in (spending xp) before committing ourselves to an action. Even if it's only a week or two, we kind of failed miserably back at dealing in the town, without even knowing how to properly haggle.

@Chronic We aren't going to do the big stuff, Inoue is. Jonin-level infiltration specialist = perfect for social. She'll help us up everything, and if we pretend to be hunters we have an excuse to stick on our own for stealth training.

Fine.

@eaglejarl said that the lives of non-ninja non-nobles sucks arse and we could easily convince a handful of commoners to give up their sucky lives and come be the minions of ninja.

What if we just find a low-budget/no-ninja caravan, be all like "Yo, we're ninja! Wanna be our minions?", and kill them, steal their cargo, and find another caravan if they disagree.

Then we continue with our merchant caravan gig except we don't have to hide that we're ninja from the merchants, so we could train right in front of them.

This sounds like an excellent way of raising a large number of flags for any nearby ninja that we are stealing business from, or killing of potential clients.

...yeah I don't like that. We should just pretend to be hunter-merchants and use the excuse of "hunting/gathering/scouting!" to train. Not that hard.
